I don't think they can tear it down. It holds up all of the dirt on that hillside (which was part of the reason they built the football stadium to begin with). George Washington Blvd. would collapse, and the mudslide would wipe out Derby Downs.

Well Northeast Ohio has longed for a real race track. Why not look at making the Rubber Bowl part of a grand stands for NASCAR Track? (Yes I know that is a ridiculous long shot.)

Maybe we should just let the forces of nature have their way with the old Bowl, and perhaps in 2,500 years or so the people of that time will look at the ruins like we look at the Roman Coliseum today

DR. Z I have been secreting hoping that the ideas being pitched would match that of UVA. Now that I've seen the pictures for the first time I feel your assessment is dead on! When I was at that game I thought Thomas Jefferson himself was going to ride down that hill! Also they did a great job of incorporating the stadium with the look of the campus. It appears Akron has the same vision and that is a great thing! As for parking, UVA is another great comparison. The lots around the stadium were at a premium but people tailgated from store parking lots to the front yards of students. Most students should take note from their fellow students and charge to park on their front yards! A couple full yards at 5 a pop and you've got a month's rent (or one kick ass party!) Can't wait for the ground breaking and more details!

I have to make a late-night (at least EST, if not here in the isles) commentary:This thread really sums up all the development that has occured at the UA since Dr Pro arrived, and a New Landscape for Learning was layed out and in no time took off. Few people in the city and area's establishment (media in particular) would have believed this then. In fact, if you told them this beautiful stadium would be in place on campus in just over ten years, they probably would have laughed in your face. You have to give credit for most of this to just a few people, with Proenza at the top, but with his biggest hire, as the new Athletic Director by his side, making the decisions and planning about the future of Zip Sports. The fact that this design reminds so many of Charlottesville makes you think that our friends, the Mikes of Cincinnati did in fact play a huge role in this design, and that their images will be forever cast on the Akron campus.Now, as Mike Waddell wrote to Cap'n Kangaroo and I just before departing, is when the plans for the large scale upgrade to JAR can begin to be discussed.I know you guys are paying attention, and I just want to say, God bless you for your trust in my hometown and alma mater. Amen to everything you said! Except for the JAR upgrade. We need an entirely new arena. But let's enjoy the buzz off this new football stadium for a few years first!

Am i the only one that's been checking this particular thread daily for the last week or so? Am I the only one that's incredibly disappointed when it's stuck on 59 posts, as it has been for the last week or so? Anything new out there or are we just waiting till Wednesday?

Sorry for the double post, but I just remembered that the design we all saw may not be the one that is built. It is one of the designs that will be voted on during the trustees' August 1st Board meeting.I guess that they will announce which design they chose on Wednesday.

I guess I didn't know there were multiple designs. Hopefully there are multiple designs that are just as good and that we didn't get the look at the $157 million option that there is no way would every happen.

Unless something from the unknown happens, the design we have seen over the last 10 days will be the one that will be built. From what I am being told, the announcement will be at noon at Quaker Square. tis will be after the trustees meeting in the mrnign where they wiil actually approvew and OK the project.

This is going to be one of the greatest weeks in my life! The stadium that we've been awaiting for YEARS and YEARS is finally becoming a reality, and the Bourne Ultimatum is hitting theaters! Life is good.
