ZachTheZip
http://cfn.scout.com/2/663387.htmlWell, I know that CFN is crap, but saying a team is the worst is a pretty strong statement. We could definetly use a pushover to give the team time time to gel before the OSU game. I actually think OSU plays a tougher season opener against YSU than Akron will against Army. Real game time is invaluable to rookie starters, even if they aren't immediately challenged against elite competition. This does put the pressure on the team to win, though. It was bad enough when we were shut out by them last time. I don't think I could take another loss to a team like that.
timmyboy
not a good sign when 3 teams in our league are ranked among the worst in the nation.
timsum1283
look on the bright side. at least 3 wins this year
Beanie 4 Heisman
It isnt saying much, but we are ranked 99 out of 119 needless to say not very good.
blueandgold
I don't put much faith in these rankings. For one, how could BG be rated 12 spots higher than us? They are not a good football team. Miami is rated higher as well. I feel we should beat both of those teams this year.
Beanie 4 Heisman
i agree with that. I say we beat most of the MAC teams rated ahead of us.
Captain Kangaroo
That's why I continue to feel we'll be arond 8-4 this year. Not because we're a juggernaut, but because we're decent and the competition is terrible. If we went 4-8 this year as some have predicted, I would be aghast. 4-8 with a 2007 MAC East schedule is like 0-12 in any other conference. skip-zip
Remember guys.....This isn't a critical issue, like it is in basketball. Nowadays, if you have a winning record in 1-A, there's enough bowl games that you'll get to one of them. What happened to us a couple of years ago was a real fluke.Sure, winning the MAC gets you to the biggest bowl game that's available to teams in our league. But again, strength of schedule really has no impact on our post season possibilities. The only thing it would impact is our national ranking. But, since we're not competing for a national championship, I'm not sure our national ranking matters that much.

Good post. The MAC has been on a steady decline starting after the 2003 football season and it's getting worse. While we improve in basketball, the league is getting worse as well. Adding scrap like Temple does nothing for the league except make it worse. If the league wanted to improve itself, it would kick out Temple and Buffalo asap.I share your optimism about this season. skip-zip
That's what makes me angry about the Temple situation. It's like someone said, "Temple isn't cutting it in a bigger conference, just throw them in the MAC".
Z.I.P.
I predict in another couple years people will wish Temple were still in the Big East, because they will be a contender in the MAC East. They're one of the better recruiting teams in the MAC already. Time will make them very competitive. Their history is sure better than Buffalo's, or frankly Akron's! No offense fellow Zipheads. RACER
while i did not want temple in the mac because of the 13 team.i still think they will be competitve in the mac.there are plent of winnable games in the mac east.now if you drop buffalo, and temple someone would have to come back over to the east.the mac either needs to add one more or drop someone.in the unbalanced schedule just like b-ball someone gets the shaft.in b-ball we had to go to toldeo but they did not have to come to akron.while i realize football is different than b-ball i am just trying to show what an unbalanced schedule does. Ryno aka Menace
The fact that they will become competitive in the MAC is even more disappointing because from the outside it will look like see Temple belongs in "that" conference because it is the same level of competition. I want them to continue to be a door mat. Others already look down on the conference if you add another bad team and they are competitive in a short amount of time that doesn't look good either. The one and only positive I see by adding Temple is we are in the New York market footprint, and me personally I don't put alot of stock in footprint talk. 74ZIP
didn't the zips steal an offensive lineman from the temple bowels a few years ago or am i mistaken?
Zipsrifle
I agree that MAC football seems to be sliding backwards. I don't know if this is the product of the schools taking more risks on players who never materialize or what? Seems that way here. I agree that if Temple can come in here, and does well, that just looks terrible for the rest of the MAC. Make no mistake, Temple sees the MAC as a stepping stone. If they can come in here, win the MAC in a couple of years, they'll be gone to another confrence because of that NY Market. We'll all be standing here saying "What about us?" Unfortunately, we don't have a stellar BB team or a "Former Big East" member by our names, so it is easy to pass us by. For fear of being a bad football school with great facilities, we NEED to be in Detroit this year, urgently!
