zip81
Interesting that the first two Patriot Bowls happend to be with Akron and Can't, which is probably their best chance for a larger crowd.Who will they try for next...BG? Someone else close?I can see this getting ungly when one of the Michigans get scheduled...or Ball State.
skip-zip
Hmmm...Can't manages to get a Big East power at home? Bowling Green gets Ohio State next year at Browns Stadium? NIU plays Iowa in Chicago? Toledo has a home game this year, in the Glass Bowl, against a Big Ten team? Meanwhile, Akron plays the worst team in 1-A at a neutral site. I'm beside myself. Now I ask myself....Did Can't manage to "use" our game at Browns Stadium against Army as a measuring stick to see how good it was going to draw, and then make their decision to pull out of their opportunity next year?Plus, why would Can't give up a game against a Big East power on their own home turf? gozips19
the patriot bowl is only supposed to include ohio mac teams and the service schools so the directional mi. teams wouldn't get a shot.
UADavid
BC is no longer a Big East team. They left with VaTech and Miami but may have stayed one extra year because of shedules and lawsuits. They are part of the ACC Atlantic. But a huge game for any MAC school to play at home. With the Minnesota game last year, the home team has had some big time opponents.
Ryno aka Menace
Anyone else notice that Can't is updating their stadium, plus i can't believe they even considered getting out of playing BC for the patriot bowl...to me that is a no brainer !! eguins
Why not try Youngstown State for the Patriot Bowl??? We'd probably get the most fans out of the 3!!!!LOL And before you flip on me, I am just kidding!!!
RACER
it's amazing how all the mac teams manage to get home games with bcs schools whilewe play army, and three away games. we play kentucky in the new stadium.other than that well see if the other teams on the schedule actually visit. what is our athletic dept doing? once again this is Can't we are talking about and dix stadium.they played minn, and now bc.we get north texas and army. ZachTheZip
For all those that are jealous of Can't, Akron has been quietly rearranging their schedule to avoid teams having to come to the Rubber bowl so that they will delay their trip to Akron until the new stadium is built. There have been sacrificed home games with BCS teams as a result. Starting in 2009, we should start collecting the return trips that those teams owe us. 7 home games a season for a few years is a possibility if the schedule is done right. That should allow us a greater chance to win games against teams we normally wouldn't have a chance against playing in a hostile stadium. Patience is key here. Our schedules will be the envy of the MAC in a few years.
skip-zip
Sure, it's nice to think that those teams will come when the new stadium is built, but there's a lot of history that shows that they tend to buy themselves out of the agreement when it comes time to play the road game. When you play a 2 and 1, you need to make every effort to get the "1" at your place first. Although, I give Virginia Tech credit for holding up their end of the 2 and 1 with us about 10 years ago. Heck, Purdue is playing Toledo at the Glass Bowl. If any of you have been there, it's only a step ahead of the RB in terms of it's condition. I think you need to find these kinds of games, and take them whenever you can get them. All I know is... I am going to be pretty upset when Can't is playing BC in Can't. And I'll be even more ticked when I see BG playing the Suckeyes in Browns Stadium next year.
eguins
For everyone's info.. YSU was considered for a game vs. Ohio State at Browns Stadium next year; and I do believe it was going to be the Patriot Bowl. That is no lie, my source with YSU can attest to it; but it all fell through. YSU-OSU will be at the 'Shoe next year. I do believe BG will be in the game.
RACER
skip zip i agree 100% with you.we will never see most of the bcs teams on our schedule .even at the new stadium.they will buy out of the contract.we are giving up something now to maybe? get something in the future. Can't is smart for making the teams come to there place first.we should have made indiana come to our place first, and we blew it.
skip-zip
equins. Sorry. The Patriot Bowl games are games that include a service academy. Better check your sources.

Sorry that I am wrong about it being the PATRIOT BOWL.My Bad!Why can't you understand that this is a Zips board and most of us don't care what ysu does? Deep talk this info on your forum and spare us the ysu this and ysu that threads. If you want to comment on the zips, try to keep focused on the zips. I'd be hard pressed to find one post where you don't lose your focus and start talking about ysu. Please stop.
Z-P
Our schedule (home) is an embarrassment this year...............it's hard to believe any professional AD could let something like this happen to his lead sport. Spin it any way you want, but but this is a 4 home game year, on a 12 game schedule. Poor players, I feel for them........JD too. NM
akronad
Z-P: I said the same thing when the schedule was released and everyone poo-pooed me. They all would rather play 7 games on the road, 1 in Clevleand and 4 at the RB rather than a mosre balanced schedule.I certainly hope next year's schedule will start reflecting a better balance! GP1
Our schedule (home) is an embarrassment this year Agreed.Someone still needs to tell me who is going to come to the Rubber Bowl (Yes, the stadium in Ellet that is falling down as we type) and play in front of 5,000 paying customers. Wouldn't the same question of professionalism be directed at an AD that allowed his team to come to Akron to play in front of such a poor paying crowd and money opportunity? I think there are a lot of dummys (not all) working in college athletics, but none of them are that stupid. As fans, we look inward. This question requires us to look at the point of view of the other team. We all have to remember that non-conference teams don't need us, we need them.A really smart AD would try to wait a couple of years and get on the schedule at the new stadium where more people will be paying to go and the stadium will be full. What is the advantage of playing in Akron right now?Note To eguins: Save us the post on why Akron should be playing YSU. None of us really care. Zipgrad01
I agree GP1. Very well done. Also, thank you for the quote to eguins. I find it hilarious because I was on JJhuddle reading about their game with OSU and YSU fans are all the same. They started ripping into Buckeye fans because they said it was a disgrace to play YSU. They started crying and moaning "We have a winning record against Can't and Akron... It is more of a disgrace to play them." It was a big pout fest.I guess what they fail to realize is we are no longer the same program we were when we used to play them. I mean....do we sit here and hang our hat on beating Ohio State back in the 1800's?I don't ever want to play YSU again....EVER!!! It has nothing to do with filling seats or being scared we could potentially lose to them as they suggest. It is just a step in the wrong direction for OUR program. All it can do is help them, but all it can do is hurt us.
