Blue & Gold
Here's a Rivals article on Will Flemming posted July 31:Akron (Ohio) Hoban safety Will Fleming is leaning toward making a decision. Will Fleming is close to committing to Akron. He does still have aspirations to land a Big Ten, Big East or ACC scholarship offer, but with his father on the staff at Akron he has so many ties to the Zip coaching staff. And it's those ties that have him leaning toward officially ending the process. It's also those ties that have probably kept other schools from offering."I was up at Akron actually over the weekend, and I've been thinking about Akron a lot," Fleming, the No. 50 player in Ohio, said. "Sunday they had a senior camp, and they had like 400 kids up there. I actually went up there and worked at linebacker and receiver, and I hung out with the coaches more. I already know them, but I never took a real visit through the campus. My mom and I went with J.D. Brookhart around campus."It's awesome. I never really had looked at the campus like that until he took us around in a golf cart."Fleming, who also has an offer from Hawaii, said there are a few other schools like Illinois, Wake Forest and Michigan State that have talked to him about an offer. But he's to the point where he thinks if they are really interested they should step up with an offer."I've been to Illinois twice, and I really liked it," he said. "I like Michigan State a lot, too. Wake Forest is the other I've been waiting to hear from, but again Akron is an amazing place and just as good as those schools. I told coach Brookhart I'm going to talk to those recruiters from the schools, and I'm going to make my decision on Aug. 23. That's when my first game is, and then my plan is to commit to Akron."I would be thrilled to go there, but I just want to see what those other schools are going to do. I really want to go to a school where I'm wanted. Akron wants me, and that's something that's important."
ZachTheZip
He was playing TE yesterday in the win over Garfield. Didn't look too bad considering how hot it was and that he also played on the defense.
KentZip
So much for an August 23 commitment. Has anyone heard an update on the recruiting situation for this young man?
akronad
I spoke with someone close to Hoban onWednesday. It seems as if Michigan State is now the leading contender. I mentioned Akron, and person I was speaking with frowned and said " things are not good at Akron right now". I still hope Will changes his mind and becomes a Zip. I can't blame Will if he chooses MSU or Hawaii over Akron. Maybe it also has somehting to do with his father. Coach Fleming undoubtedly has a lot of influence in this matter. He may see something in the program that he doesn't want his son to be subjected to. Maybe there is going to be a shakeup or there is lots of internal strife. It wouldn't suprise me. Z.I.P.
Regarding Michigan State being the leading contender: Last I checked, Will had just two offers -- Akron and Hawai'i. Has that changed?

Before the game I went down to the first row and shouted to the group of several people who looked like they could be HS prospects, "Is Will Fleming there?" No one answered. I don't think he was at the game, which probably is good news for Akron.
Buckzip
Regarding Michigan State being the leading contender: Last I checked, Will had just two offers -- Akron and Hawai'i. Has that changed? If we can't get a local kid whose father is a coach here, that says a lot about our program.I understand if he was being recruited by all the big boys. However, he isn't and Akron still may lose himAs for going to Hawaii over Akron. Well, I am pretty sure that Hawaii would offer all those guys that UM, OSU, ND, PSU, etc offer. However, they can't get them away from the big guys. RACER
come on buck zip.if you had a choice of the big island and akron where would you go.alott of kids go to schools to get away from where are brought up.i cannot blame the kid if he goes to there.now if he took an offer from another mac school then it would be a slap in the face.lets see a top 25 team and sunny warm weather,or a 4-8 team that plays in the freezing cold.plus there is alott of pressure for the kid if he does play here for his father.what does he do if something happens to jd and his dad is gone? then he is in a real tuff spot.sometimes its nice to get away for awhile and see there is more to life than the rubber bowl. Z.I.P.
come on buck zip.if you had a choice of the big island and akron where would you go.Say Racer,You're not a geography major are you? He's being recruited by the University of Hawai'i-Manoa (O'ahu), not the University of Hawai'i-Hilo (Big Island). They don't even have a football team, just some hot volleyball chics.
