Johnny "OSU" Malloy

I went to Johnny Malloys today and it was a sea of scarlet and grey. At first I was shocked - Is this Columbus I wondered? Then I remembered how Ohio is full of OSU homers. What really pissed me off is that of the servers/bartenders most of them wore OSU garb and not a single one wore Zips garb. Some of them had other shirts that were not with either team at least. After watching the game there I had 2 thoughts:1) I will never pull for OSU again (I used to pull for them against Michigan or if they were in the National Title.)2) I hate OSU and hope some day we can beat them.

That's absolutely disgusting. I understand that people in Ohio generally pull for OSU, and normally that's understandable... but when it's your hometown team they're playing? I just can't understand that. You've got to root for the Zips, even if (and maybe because) you know they've got extremely long odds to win.

I watched the game at the Wing Warehouse in Cuyahgoga falls. There were about a dozen of us there rooting for the Zips. There was even a representative from the AK Oldies signing up new members (Very cool). Unfortunately we also had about 50-60 folks there rooting for the suckeyes. Everytime they did their OH-IO chant, I sounded off with "You didn't go to school there". That pissed them off because they didn't have a come back for it. It was very enjoyable watching them all drown in there beer at halftime. If we just had half of an offense today, we would have had a very good chance. I hope those front running losers lose all the rest of there games. People who root for others schools and others professional teams deserve to lose. Well, at least I saved myself from a black eye or fat lip today. I am certain that if we won, I probably would have started running smack against a crowd that outnumbered me 3-1 in greater Akron! Man. I hate those guys! Nothing against the OSU team, but everything against those front running loser fans of Columbus State who never set foot on that campus, let alone, went to school there!Indiana doesn't have a chance against our defense next week. Go Zips! 1-1 in the Big Ten.

Who cares if they went to school there? People become fans of football teams well before they reach college age. Most people never go to college. Should they be banned from following college footballbecause they never went to college? That would be pretty elitist wouldn't it?

I was that rep from AK-OLDIES (and Craig, we'll get you that shirt). All of the Wing Warehouse staff was wearing Ohio State gear. Since my money is blue and gold, I gave my waitress an AK-OLDIE shirt to cover her Buckeye shirt. She's from Can't State but doesn't care about Can't State sports.Get this...her manager made her take the AK-OLDIE shirt off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I asked my waitress if her manager was an OSU grad. She only said she was an OSU fan.Not good enough for me.I understand doing what you want with your own business, but this was petty.I will spend my money elsewhere.boycott.png

I'm listening to the 5th Quarter show on 1350.Sounds good Fred!Just heard a commercial from Rockne's on Merriman Rd congratulating the Zips and wishing them a successful season.I think we just found a home for the Oldies.Stay with the home team!I'll be calling them to make an arrangement.

Thanks ZIP81. I got your email and responded to it with my address. Thanks for tracking me down at the Wing Warehouse. Obviously their manager is a front running loser just like Cicero who seems to think that schools represent geographical areas rather than their current and former students and faculty. Isn't funny how Suckeye fans get so bent out of shape when you question their allegiance to a school that they absolutely have no ties to other than "I grew up a Buckeye fan". What a bunch of B.S. At least us folks here at the nation are willing to support our school rather than someone else's just because they happen to be the popular winner every year. If I remember corretly, isn't Cicero a Miami Redhawk. What the H*ll is he rooting for OSU for? He is a disgace to that great university in Oxford. As far as the Wing Warehouse, its a shame that you were treated so rudely by management there. That is a great bar with a great atmosphere, but I have to say that I have probably spent me last dollar there as well.I think I will be heading to the Lizard in Fairlawn next Saturday. Hopefully they will give us a good area to watch the game without any interuptions from Suckeye fan. Otherwise, I may have to do my best impersonation of an Oakland Raider fan on them.

My daughter, a friend of mine and I watched the game at the Winking Lizard in Fairlawn. There were four OSU fans all decked out in OSU garb/jerseys in the parking lot waiting to get in when we got there. One of the guys is a local school teacher who got his teaching degree from Akron :puke: . His buddy is currently a student at Akron :puke: . The school teacher asked my 9-year-old daughter why her dad lets her wear that kind of stuff ("Fear the Roo" T-shirt). She responded "Because we live in AKRON!" :thumb: Outnumbered 3-1 by OSU fans but it was civil and MUCH more quiet than I expected it to be. NICE defensive effort by the Zips helped hold the OSU crowd at bay. Can't wait for the day when Akron has enough critical mass IN AKRON to hold their own at the bars/pubs against the OSU clowns.

So by your logic anyone who went to school some where else, but settles into a job in the Akron area, they shouldnt support the Zips? Yeah that makes sense.

We don't know the manager went to OSU...we only know she is an OSU fan.And when you have your entire staff decked out in OSU gear, and one of your customers GIVES a waitress an Akron shirt and you make her take it off...don't you think that's a little much?come on!

I'm not defending what the manager did. I was disputing the comment that you have to have gone to a school to be a fan of that school.
It was obvious at Wing Warehouse today that most of the people wearing red and gray did not go to college. So I stipulate your observation.

Loser? Is there really a need to get personal here? Your inferiority complex makes you look childish and small minded. I think it is great that you support the program at Akron. It might surprise you to learn that it doesn't make you the martyr that you seem to think you are. Keep living in your little football world and maintain that air of false superiority because it makes you so fun to talk to.

It makes perfect sense actually. Good business sense to support the local college, assuming that college has fans willing to come to your bar and spend money. At the very least the "home of the Zips" (the Winking Lizard) should show support for UA. Does that mean all the service crew must wear Zips gear? No, but at least 1 or 2 should. Also any Akron area bar should show some support for the Zips or at least be impartial and not wear OSU stuff for the game.As far as having to go to school to be a fan - If you never attended college then I can see pulling for the front runner. If you go to another college and pull for OSU, I find that odd (CSU or other schools without football get a pass), but its common in this state and I try to ignore it.But if you own school plays against OSU and you want OSU to win over your own school, then I think that is just sad.

My point exactly 1990. Although a little out of the way, I was going to talk to them about making a hang out for the Oldies.I know we're just getting this club together, but one day I invision a lot of Alums getting together wearing gold and blue.Kinda hard to do at a place that makes decisions like that. Petty...short-sighted.The Winking Lizard incident is very sad and disappointing, especially when they host a weekly UA event with the coach. My feelings are Rockne's on Merriman. They support Zips football on the radio by buying commercials....they're centrally located...so far, so good.

The last time I went there, they had a huge UA sports poster covering one of the walls. The owners support the Zips pretty well, although I don't know if they changed colors for yesterday, only to switch back today. I don't think they would, though.

I watched the game at the Redstone Pub in Akron. I think I was the only (vocal) Zips fan there.Believe it or not, though, all (without a single exception) of the OSU fans there were very, very cool. While they may not be ready to drink the Akron koolaid yet, I do believe there is a sleeping giant of a ZipsNation out there just waiting to be awakened. The new stadium will help tremendously, as will continued proof that there is a Div-1A football team representing our town.
