skip-zip
I really didn't expect a number that high. Indiana's dominance of Western Michigan on the road last night might have had a big impact on this number.I was expecting a number around 5 or so. This surprises me. Z.I.P.
Hoosiers are a good team, that could pull a surprise on a number of Big-11 ballclubs. I was expecting a number around three touchdown personally! I can't see Akron beating the spread a third week in a row. I think 15-17 is a realistic number. skip-zip
Z.I.P...are you serious? Western Michigan was a 3 point favorite, but you expected us to be a 21 point underdog?
johnnyzip84
Yahoo has the line at -13, which is pretty close to what I expected (2TD). This could be a difficult game, emotionally, for the Zips.
Class of 82
Believe it or not, I think this game is in some ways going to be tougher than Saturday's.1) Indiana has lost a few games to MAC schools over the years. Hoosier players know they can't just show up and win.2) For the first time in a long time, Indiana has a legitimate shot at bowl eligibility. The Akron game is a must win if they are to keep that hope alive. You look at their schedule, and the potential for 7 or 8 wins is entirely feasible. (LOL... now they're probably kicking themselves that they don't get a crack at Michigan!)3) Their QB is one of the most explosive offensive players in the country, and he has help.4) Terry Hoeppner was not sitting on his hands the last couple of years. They have recruited pretty well by historical Hoosier standards.5) Finallly, they have the extra motivation of Hopepner's untimely death. I'm no Miami fan, but he was a fine coach and a fine man. I have no doubt the Indiana kids have extra motivation to do something special this year for a man they respected and loved. In a game so tied into emotions, an X-factor like this can't be underestimated. Can Akron overcome and win anyway? Sure. I think our defense can keep Indiana from scoring a ton. But I think we need a huge turnaround by the offensive line that will allow us to have some kind of ground attack. If those guys don't win their share of battles in the trenches, we will lose this game, and maybe lose badly.
skip-zip
I'm just dumbfounded about why Western Michigan was a favorite against Indiana, and we are a huge underdog. Besides the home field advantage. Is there that much difference between us and Western at this point? If so, we've lost serious ground in our own conference over the last couple of years. The difference in lines can probably be explained by the fact that Indiana BEAT Western on the road last week, and pretty convincingly. (I know WMU made it closer at the end.) So Indiana raised its profile by winning and by beating the spread on the road. Akron, on the other hand, whille a stellar defense allowed them to cover, got three first downs and was shut out offensively at Ohio State. So I guess the line seems perfectly reasonable to me. Now it's up to the Zips to beat the odds, and I think they have a reasonably good shot to do so.
w00t
Is there that much difference between us and Western at this point?Yes, Western has more than one total offensive touchdown in two weeks.
Moose
Has a parent of a Akron football player we need to get some fan support. The noise that the osu fan made was a big diffence.Player had trouble hear the play calls We have more fans and noise at are local high school. Fans can make a big diffence. Lets get behind the team with some postive feedback and look at the good side verse the bad side. It was 120 degree on the field on Saturday. Akron does not have the bench strength that OSU does. I go to all the games they all have a larger fan base that Arkon does. Lets make some noise and go to the games. They were 12,000 face at the first game and half of those were army. You would think we would have the whole city of akron at the game
skip-zip
Moose. It's part of a long history of fan apathy, and several other factors that would take a novel to explain. We appreciate your enthusiasm, and any role you can play to help us turn that around.Go Zips !! skip-zip
Captain... I had a couple of Buckeye fans sitting in front of me. They were the only one's in the general vicinity. We were yelling stuff in their ears the entire game, especially the first half. They had to hear "The Appalachian State Game isn't so funny now...is it?" and the "ZI..........PS" all game long.I would see the guy whisper something to his girlfriend every once in a while, but other than that, he really couldn't do much but sit there and take it.I know quite a few Ohio State fans, and the experienced ones who go down to games KNOW where the visiting seats are, and are smart enough not to buy tickets from scalpers in those areas.Unfortunately, the poor souls who don't know better end up in those seats and have to watch their beloved Buckeyes with the visiting fans screaming in their ear.It was fun.
