Dr Z Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 From Razor's blog:Bryan Williams is the starting running back. Alex Allen will back him up. Dennis Kennedy is off the depth chart at that position. I don’t know for sure, but Kennedy could be hurt. He hasn’t played at all like the back we saw last year.I am excited to see what Williams can do starting. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 From Razor's blog:He hasn’t played at all like the back we saw last year. I disagree -- He's pretty much played EXACTLY like the same running back we saw last year. A short yardage specialist who doesn't have "home-run" moves or speed. I've always liked DK inside the 10 yard line. But other than that...he's never been too impressive. Quote
blueandgold Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 This is what the depth chart should have looked like 2 weeks ago. Williams and Allen give us a much better chance at moving the ball. Quote
skip-zip Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 I also feel that, in due time, Allen will surface as the best overall running back in our arsenal. Quote
skip-zip Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Let me add one more thing...If you read JD's press conference transcript, he is giving no indication that he is going to bench DK. In fact, I believe he says that he needs to get him off of special teams to give him more rest so that he can perform better at RB.But, this still doesn't explain why he would have just vanished from the depth chart. Is there a bigger development that we just haven't heard about yet?? Captain Kangaroo Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Is there a bigger development that we just haven't heard about yet??I doubt it. It makes total sense. Williams is a hell of a back, and seems to be making things happen. Kennedy isn't. Allen is also solid in short yardage situations, so he's going to some of DK's red zone carries. We have a lot of depth at RB now, so unless DK is putting up monster numbers, his carries are going to go down. Maybe in the long term it helps him? He should be fresher, and perhaps more motivated when he enters the games. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 DK might be moved to WR. We need a pair of sure hands out there besides Arthur. Quote
zen Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 DK might be moved to WR. We need a pair of sure hands out there besides Arthur. It's somewhat rare when running backs don't get dinged up during a season. Having depth at the position is an asset.Aside from that, our young receivers just need more reps and game time. I'm not trying to imply that this year is a "rebuilding year", but these guys need trial by fire. Don't give up on them so fast. Quote
zipboy Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 We need all 3 and Kennedy out of the backfield to catch passes is reliable. On the other hand, I like Williams and Allen as 1/2. Remember a key 3rd down where Williams bounced it outside to get the 1st late 3rd quarter? I don't see us getting that 1st down last year. Quote
