scottditzen Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 Just heard on the radio (I'm working down in C-bus) Coach Doug Martin has ALLEGEDLY stated that he will bench some of his starters vs. OSU in order to avoid injuries!!! Martin ALLEGEDLY said he wanted to instead keep his focus on the MAC. Coach Tressel, as you can imagine, did not seem real happy when he heard about this but took the high road.Man, I am sure glad we have Brookhart and not Martin as our coach. Quote
GP1 Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 OSU's nonconference schedule is such a sham Tressel can't really say anything. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 Games like this are a joke anyways. There's no reason to treat it any differently than what it really is, or to obscure the truth. It's being played for money, not for the competition. At least Doug understands that.JD played his starters because we had a real shot to win with the way our defense played. Can't has no shot whatsoever and gets the money regardless of whether its a blowout, so why even bother? Quote
Zipgrad01 Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 OSU's nonconference schedule is such a sham Tressel can't really say anything.Tressel doesn't need to say anything. They had Texas the last 2 years in non-conference. They got a break this year and then jump right back into the fire with home and home's against USC, Miami (Florida), Virginia Tech and Oklahoma. They, unlike many of the big names schools, don't shy away from the big games whether at home or on the road. Calling out OSU's schedule this year is just a joke. Saying all that...I think it is a disgrace to the MAC that Can't would decide not to play their starters. All they are doing is hurting their program, so good for them. If Martin truly does something this stupid you can guarantee that OSU will never schedule Can't again. Quote
UA1987 Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 I don't doubt you heard it, but I think the radio comment is a load of manure from a worthless nut. More disrespect I suspect. Quote
akronad Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 I read the same thing in the Reakin' Urinal. Maritn will be playing the first teamers through the 1st quarter and willl substitute very leberally thereafter. It seems as though Martin believes Can;t actually has a chance to get back into the mix for the MACC.I just spoke with the highest authority in the land and his words were GO ZIPS1 Quote
g-mann17 Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 Yes I believe that taint of sports writer Thomas blogged about it.Said that OSU shouldn't even be gracing teams like Akron, BGSU, Can't State with their all-powerful precense. And that it was a "disgrace to make OSU fans pay full price" for a game like that. Quote
ZippyRulz Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 Tressel is the one who should be sitting his starters. Why take a chance on getting someone hurt if you have a chance at a national title? Is he afraid his 2nd string cant beat Can't? Is he afraid his starters will get too rusty if they sit a week? What if they had a bye week? Quote
scottditzen Posted October 12, 2007 Author Report Posted October 12, 2007 I don't doubt you heard it, but I think the radio comment is a load of manure from a worthless nut. More disrespect I suspect.because I you may be right, I edited my post that those comments were "alleged" and I did not hear Martin say that. p.s. am I the only person who thinks Kents offense will give OSU a hard time!!! Captain Kangaroo Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 p.s. am I the only person who thinks Kents offense will give OSU a hard time!!!I think K.e.n.t. will punt fewer times than Akron did. Maybe 12 times total?K.e.n.t. will have 7 or 8 turnovers.OSU 51K.e.n.t. 3 Quote
zen Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 Martin watched the video of when Akron played OSU and was still winning at halftime and said "Oh shit sonnnnn. If we get creamed by OSU Akron will have two bragging rights on us this year! Let's send in the bench-warmers so we got an excuse"So, in other words, even though Akron hung in on OSU for over 2 quarters, Doug Martin doesn't think his team has any chance to win and is going to throw in the towel. That's an admission of inferiority. It's shameful. Quote
skip-zip Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 So, let me see if I got this right....Martin will be forfeiting a chance to see how well his team can compete against Ohio State? Even after he has already blown his chance to win the MAC East by taking two early losses within his own division? What is he saving his team for? They'd need to pretty much go unbeaten at this point to even have a remote chance. And even at that, they need to finish a game ahead of Akron and Miami to win the East because on the head-to-head tiebreakers.I don't get it. Martin...give your kids something to play for this year. WOW, one tough game a year mixed in with the joke that is the Big Ten. How impressive. OSU can take a risk and lose early in one difficult game, march through a bad conference and play for the national championship. I don't blame Senator Tressel one bit. I feel sorry for the mental midgets who will spend the day going to see that junk tomorrow and then will spend their days defending it.Any PAC 10, any SEC team plays a tougher schedule than OSU with their conference games alone. OSU doesn't jump back in the fire next year...there is a fire, but it's more of a campfire and the OSU has a bag of marshmellows. Quote
zipboy Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 If Can't loses, this might put their bowl chances in jeopardy Quote
Ryno aka Menace Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Buckeye comments...http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=145#s=145&a...4&t=1188057random quotes:I agree. We were trying to help these Ohio schools. We got a game from YSU and Akron. This makes Can't State look pretty shabby. There is some validity behind the coach's reasoning, but he should be fired. Wouldn't put it past this guy to be accepting money to throw the game with that kind of attitude. They hired him to win ball games, or atleast try your best. There is no way you guys are going to lose, but with all the strange happenings in CF this year, why not play your best guys??There are ways to do what he plans on doing without making it look like it. Letting everyone know what he plans on doing ahead of time make him look like a D*ck! I would hate to be one of his players or one of the fans paying good money to root for the flushes with a small glimer of hope of pulling an App St. Why even show up if you arn't gonna play 100%. Just forfit the game, refund the $$$, save everyone's time and money, and play another "Scarlet and Grey" game this Saturday. I would rather see that than a team that doesn't want to play to winThis guy make a great point...I heard about this alluded to during the Press Conference, and I had to do a double take on what I was hearing. What kind of message does this send to your kids? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for most of those kids, and to be basically told by their coach that they aren't good enough to compete with Ohio State, is a mean spirited slap in their face.Whether he was trying to be deceptive or whatever is irrelevent; it's WRONG and he should be fired. ZipAlumn Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 This has to be a joke or a statement take out of context or maybe it's April 1st. Martin would be a complete idiot if he actually said that and meant to do it. And even if he associated with Can't there has to be a limit to the amount of idiocy on that campus. If you aren't going to try to win why schedule the game? Not only is this a reflection upon Can't but also the entire MAC. If Martin said this and meant this he should be fired, then drawn and quartered. :screwks: :screwks: :screwks: :screwks: Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Am I the only one who thinks that Martin may be playing opposum? I actually feel that Can't's somewhat quirky assembly of talent could give the red and silver some problems. I may be way off, but I'm going to say that Can't gives them a scare today, before losing by 2 TD's.Red and Silver Football Factory 38Flushes 24 Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 OK, I was as far from the truth as possible!! I am so embarassed Quote

The 1st team came back later but the 2nd and even 3rd team played the majority of the game. The only positive thing you can say about Martin is that he gave everyone a chance to play in the horseshoe. As for wanting to win the game or having confidence in his team's abilities, well Can't took home a lot of undeserved money today. Quote
zipsbandman Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Two thoughts on this game:1) I said this before and I will say it again. Doug Martin is an Idiot. He is perfect for Can't State. YSU and Akron earned a lot of respect by playing Ohio State head on. Can't once again looks bush league.2) Maybe Tressel needs to put some more meat into his nonconference schedule if he wants to see his team to play football games rather than run a circus. Quote
