RACER
i would have thought the tribe game hurt attendance.with the loss to temple at home and the cold weather approaching i think our attendance is in trouble.i just wonder what would happen if we do not make the ncaa attendance mark? with the temple loss akron just destroyed any chance this season of building a fan base. flipthezip
I would not expect a large number at the last game of the year. Students gone, holiday weekend, busiest shopping day.Time to get very creative for that Wednesday night Ohio game. Lots of giveways I suppose. ZachTheZip
We were incredibly lucky to have two high-profile "home" events this year in the Patriot Bowl and the Can't State game. Hopefully they should inflate our average a bit to keep us above that 15,000 mark.

Hopefully they should inflate our average a bit to keep us above that 15,000 mark.Guys, the NCAA's minimum attendance "rules" are either a rumor, or a suggestion to raise fear (kinda like No Child Left Behind shutting down schools). But, even if it were serious, Akron would not have to worry. The various "rules" I've seen (and the fact that no hard and fast rules exist is proof that this isn't serious) say a school must draw 15k + once within a range of several years. Akron got their attendance within the rules last year, so are safe for x number of years. Once in 5 years, once in ten years, etc. But even if you "fail", you are put on "suspension" which will allow you to recommit your program for an undending period of time. The bottom line is, the BCS schools who rule don't want Bowl Subdivision (did I get the name right?) schools (i.e., Div I-A) to fall down to FB Championship Subdivision (i.e. Div I-AA) status. It doesn't look good.
xu9697
We are fine...and once 2009 gets here, it won't matter anymore.
akronad
We will be fine from an attendance stand point, however, what make's you think all will be right with the fb program?

No team has EVER been demoted from what used to be called 1-A to 1-AA, and I don't think it'll happen anytime soon, if ever.
Captain Kangaroo
You don't build a $55,000,000 football stadium if you are going 1-AA.
ZachTheZip
I never said that I was afraid that we would go back to 1-AA. I don't want to be put on suspension by the NCAA. It's extremley bad press and it's embarassing. It will give the stadium naysayers more ammo. The only thing good that might come of it would be that it would force the athletic department to realise that they have to do something NOW, not just go "wait until the stadium is done" and then just assume that will fix all our problems. We need to revive the ACME-Zip games or do something along those lines, like sell tickets at every grocery and department store in Akron for the minimum price (I think it's 2/3 of face value to be counted by NCAA rules).
