skip-zip
Here's my perspective....As far as this game is concerned, I think there may have been some tentative play calling in the 4th quarter. I think we really believed that we could just run the clock out. As for the defense, I cannot fault any of those players. If someone is to take any blame, I hope it is the D. Coordinator who put those guys in some questionable positions in the last part of the game.
RACER
the problem is we tried to run the clock out,and play not to lose.in the first half the offenese was in attack mode with passes to our wr.so in the fourth qtr we go to a power running game which we are not good at.time after time in college football you see teams try to run the clock out by running, and most of the time it does not work.jd needs to quit playing scared and try to win the game with the offense we used in te first half. Hugo42
Upsets happen. However, this is ridiculous. We lose games every year that we should win. When have we beaten anyone that we were large underdogs to? I think Marshall was the last time....Pretty sad. IMHOWay back in October of 2006. Everyone first needs to understand this is a new Oline, New Qb, and one Playmaker returner. The Offense is going to struggle. The defense was supposed to carry the team this season. When you give up twenty one points in the fourth quarter it is the team's fault. The coaches can't coach that. When you gain three yards, then three yards on the first two downs you can't gain enough on the third. By the way the play was a choice where he could of passed it, so thats a great play call IMO. Rutgers took six years to turn it around and USF's Jim Leavitt has been at USF for nine years. It takes time to build a program so you guys need to understand that this is going to be bright very soon. We will be recruiting at the national level very soon. skip-zip
Recruiting on a national level? I like your optimism hugo. Not going to happen anytime soon.Racer, there were some play calls in the 2nd half, such as the reverse, that were thrown in there. They just didn't work. And many teams have run the clock out with a 17-point lead in the 4th quarter, and cruised to an easy victory. We just didn't get it done. RACER
everyone is blaming the offense but we did score twenty points.the problem is not the offense but the play calling.they got away from getting the ball to the paymakers j.athur, ownes.the play calling was not to lose the game instead of trying to win it.jd needs to start taking the blame for the conserative play calling, and not put it all on the players. Captain Kangaroo
What was NCSU record last year???? Just because a team is in a BCS conference doesn't make them a good team...NC State is in the ACC. They drew 56,000 fan to the Akron game. 56,000!! We drew 7,000 butts-in-seats for Temple last week.OSU drew 105,000 for it's game against Akron. Their ticket prices average 20X what an Akron game ticket costs. Programs like NC State, and to a larger extent OSU, are dripping with money. Their stadium upgrades cost twice what our entire new stadium will cost! They don't recruit, they select.Akron beat NC State, who's grad assistants makes as much money as JD.Akron played OSU within 18 points. Ans the disparity between OSU's football resources and Akron's is similar to my salary vs. Bill Gates'.That's not impressive? That's a guy that should be fired? Gheeeez...Is JD perfect? No. Was the Temple collapse boardeline unforgivable? It was close. But if you ride JD for that loss, then where's the anger towards Dambrot for the Miami collapse? A 7-point lead with 2 minutes remaining? And we blow it? I guess JD just isn't that "loveable?"In the big picture, JD appears to have the program going in the right direction. To blow off his MAC championship as "luck" is ridiculous. To harp on his recruiting mistakes, while giving no credit to the quality players he's brought to Akron is self-serving. It is funny that, in mid season, all you heard from Indian's fans was grousing about Shapiro not picking up quality free agents..that Dolan wouldn't spend the money to be competitive...that Wedge was a boob. The Tribe is 1 game away from the World Series, and where are those guys now? They just sit and wait for the team to fail, so they can say "I TOLD YOU SO." Just like last week...the JD haters disappeared. Then the Zips lose, and the haters return. As predictable as an OSU fan's response to "O-H."All of you are welcome to post after the Buffalo game. But if we win, I can easily predict who will post, and who will disappear...until the next loss.

But if we win, I can easily predict who will post, and who will disappear...until the next loss.Everything you just said could've been used to defend Lee Owens before he was fired....Oh....in his second year he came within three points of Virginia Tech.... their facilities are miles ahead of ours (especially back then!!)Oh....the Zips only lost to those mighty Buckeyes who hand select their players by 14 points (not 18).....Oh.... the Zips beat a top 25 team!! (has JD done that yet?)Oh.... the Zips won the MAC East!!!Oh.... the Zips went 7-5, 5-3 (but unfortunately that wasn't good enough to win the MAC that year.... it was good enough to send a coaching staff packing)Oh.... Lee Owens is bringing in some great talent!! (I think we forget some of the great players that Lee Owens did somehow convince to come to a school that looked like an NYC slum.... and how many of them actually were able to keep their grades up for all 4 years...to think!!)The point is not to say Lee O shouldn't have been fired, but that JD has not progressed this program at all since he's gotten here, and the facts back that up. It's still the same ole Akron Zips, and like I've said before, he's got a lot more to recruit with and develop players with than previous coaches ever did... he's got all the advantages (a completely recreated, beautiful campus, one of the best practice facilities in the nation, and a new stadium on the way...) JD has not shown that he can take this program anywhere that it hasn't been before, and if he doesn't show it by next season, then I say it's time to get somebody in here who will... especially as we take the next step with an oncampus stadium. Captain Kangaroo
Do you think I was born yesterday?? Come on!Everything you just said could've been used to defend Lee Owens before he was fired....Sorry - Lee had 9 years. JD has has 3 1/2.Oh....in his second year he came within three points of Virginia Tech.... their facilities are miles ahead of ours (especially back then!!)Half of that game was played in the remnants of a hurricane. And Jason Taylor, a Faust recruit, almost single-handedly led the team to a win. Owens coaching played little part in that game. He was along for the ride. And, he lost.Oh....the Zips only lost to those mighty Buckeyes who hand select their players by 14 points (not 18).....Owens' team played the Buckeyes well. But they were never in the game. Wells plunges in from the 1 at game's end and it is 35-14. JD was down 3-2 in the 3rd quarter.Oh.... the Zips beat a top 25 team!! (has JD done that yet?))Place him against an overrated team like Marshall and he likely would. In only 3 1/2 years at the helm, it is pretty laughable to pit his record against top 25 opponents against someone who had nine years to do it...and did it once!Oh.... the Zips won the MAC East!!!What Bowl did they go to? None. Owens blew the game against Miami and watched the MAC Championship from his couch. JD beat Northern Illinois to go to the Motor City Bowl. Advantage JD.Oh.... the Zips went 7-5, 5-3 (but unfortunately that wasn't good enough to win the MAC that year.... it was good enough to send a coaching staff packing)I LOVE the Owens fan who counts wins vs Hampton and Liberty with the same degree of difficulty as real Division 1 wins. Again - You can't be serious? Do you think the ZipsNation readers are that stupid? Why not put SE Missouri State and Grambling on the schedule and let Owens go 8-3?Oh.... Lee Owens is bringing in some great talent!! (I think we forget some of the great players that Lee Owens did somehow convince to come to a school that looked like an NYC slum.... and how many of them actually were able to keep their grades up for all 4 years...to think!!)If you want me to post some of Owens' player retention rates, I will. His 2000 class is on GoZips.com...around 32% if I recall correctly? Compare JD's after 9 years and let's talk. And NYC slum is pretty laughable. While not what it is today, Owens campus was a hell of a lot nicer than when I enrolled in 1984.The point is not to say Lee O shouldn't have been fired, but that JD has not progressed this program at all since he's gotten here, and the facts back that up. It's still the same ole Akron Zips, and like I've said before, he's got a lot more to recruit with and develop players with than previous coaches ever did... he's got all the advantages (a completely recreated, beautiful campus, one of the best practice facilities in the nation, and a new stadium on the way...) JD has had the practice facility for 3 years, and won't have a new stadium until 2009. Man...why the hell aren't we in a BCS bowl!!! FIRE HIM!!! NO PROGRESS!!! FIND ANOTHER URBAN MEYER!!! IT IS EASY!!! GOOD COACHES WIN BOWLS BY THEIR 3RD YEAR OR THEY SHOULD BE CANNED!!Gheeez....
