I kind of think your an asshole to come on this board and post this message for no other reason than to bash Charlie Frye. The numbers are the numbers, but the point of posting this is for nothing more than to say I told you so. Now go away -- you told us so. Hope your fantastically happy and happy that one of our own is a third stringer. :chair:

I think its a legitimate subject to bring up after all of the previous Frye vs. DA discussion. I'm a fan of Charlie (still am) and I think he was subjected to nothing but turmoil during his time in Cleveland so we still don't know what he's really got. Hopefully, someday he'll get another shot, in Seattle or elsewhere. Meanwhile, DA has certainly exceeded everyone's expectations. Maybe having Charlie gone was what he needed because while Charlie was here DA's performance was wildly unpredictable from game-to-game. I read that Chudzinski wanted DA all along because he did not think that Charlie had the physical tools for the offense he wanted to run. For me, I will officially say that "I stand corrected." Its hard to see how the team could have done any better than they have under DA. The idea of Charlie Frye leading the Browns was a beautiful concept. It just didn't work out. I'm still a little sour on the team for how it all went down.

Well I kind of think the people who bashed me and said I knew nothing about football (based on me saying I thought Anderson was better than Frye) were assholes themselves. And yes...I am posting just to say I was right. When you get bashed and attacked like I did for simply holding that opinion, and it comes out to be that you were not only right, but that the debate's result wasn't even close - sometimes it's good to say "I told you so". Forgive me for not caring about what has happened to Frye, who, by the way, has given jack-shit back to UA since his graduation. Why people treat this guy like some sort of God when other UA alums - Jason Taylor, Dwight Smith, Domenik Hixon, etc - who are actually playing in the pros are always overlooked.

You post a lot of numbers. This is the only statistic that matters. The Browns gave Frye the job for a good reason. He was the returning starter and DA did nothing to knock out the champ during training camp. Frye didn't wash out with the Browns because he didn't give his best effort.I don't know what the future holds for Frye. I've never thought much of his game or his ability to make a team a winning team.....but then again, I don't think much of the ability of half the starting QBs in the NFL and 95% of the back-up QBs. The NFL is full of a bunch of junk this year.Charlie may very well be in the twilight of his short career. If so, he is a guy who has lived a childhood dream for a lot of kids. Although, I wonder what the first thought in his head was that first morning he woke up in the Residence Inn in Seattle. It was a harsh and fast fall for him. The NFL is not a kind place. If this is his last year, he probably will not have enough money to live the rest of his life without a job and will need to work. NFL players spend a lot of money on stupid things and basic living expenses in the NFL are high. So while he probably has savings, it may not be as much as we may think. A couple million dollars doesn't go as far as it used to and guys who play for a long time still work after they retire. I'm not even certain if being active for 48 games is enough to qualify for the NFLPA retirement plan. Nobody knows what the future holds. I once predicted he would be the next Kelly Holcomb. Unfortunately, Kelly Holcomb is somehow still in the NFL and was starting at one point this season........amazing, I know. Therefore, Frye can't be the next Holcomb, but he could be Holcomblike. I will stand by my prediction and say that Frye has at least a couple years left. Probably not, but I'll stand by my prediction. As far as you Browns fans who think DA is the king right now, we will see this weekend when the Browns show up to play my Steelers. The AFC North has very favorable scheduling this year. DA is facing an easy schedule and may not be all he appears to be when the Steelers start to blitz. This brings us full circle to the point that Frye was released from the Browns. The clock is ticking DA. Troy and the boys will be waiting for you Sunday. Don't be late......

To each and their own. When I'm personally attacked and even warned by an admin...for holding an opinion...and that opinion turns out to be dramatically accurate, I like to point that out. Sure, it's tooting my own horn...but hey, at least I admit it, right? Haha. Had Frye started and had the same success, I'm sure people would've bashed me in their celebratory topics/posts. As for Frye, he has nothing to be ashamed of. He's an NFL QB who's made millions of dollars. Not many can say that. He's just not an NFL starter, but should be able to stick as a backup. If Vinny Testaverde can be a backup at age 86, so can Frye lol.

I think its a legitimate subject to bring up after all of the previous Frye vs. DA discussion.
Not really. Not until Frye plays again. ALMOST everyone who was in Frye's corner for the last few years kept saying OVER and OVER, all we need is a semi-decent offensive line. DA has one. Isn't it amazing.BTW, the browns haven't had a consistently decent offensive line in 20 years. The pass protection is MUCH better this year than recent years, but the run blocking still sorta stinks (but the run blocking isn't the issue when it comes to comparing DA to Frye)I actually half-way considered posting a "kudos" thread for DA for his performance this year on this forum because of the DA/Frye debates that happened earlier, but I refrained from doing so because it's inevitable that the Frye bashers would come out and say "see I told you so". I will concede that there is no way to reasonably argue that Frye could have done definitively as well as DA has done this year, BUT, please go dig up the old threads. You will find that we did indeed plead that no QB would have done well with the offensive lines the Browns had over the last few years. Now that the browns QB has pass protection, how can an equal comparison be made?I will willingly concede I was wrong when/if Charlie Frye starts for another team and performs badly.

Because Frye didn't do anything when he did have time...beacause Frye wouldn't stay in the pocket...because Frye wouldn't get rid of the ball, or look down field. I'll give you that the offensive line is much better this year than ever before. But with Frye's bad decision making and unwillingness to stay in the pocket, combined with his inability to throw the ball down the field, defenses are much more afraid of getting burnt by DA than they ever were with Frye. He was absolutely no threat to beat you...and they knew it.

CF would probably have needed an ideal situation to develop into a true NFL QB...good team, good coaches, a good mentor QB & more time before getting thrown in. Would he have thrived in such a situation? We'll never know, so no one can really be proven right or wrong about him. Now he has some baggage of having had to struggle with the Browns which is another obstacle to overcome. He got some practice PT last week with Seattle so he still has a chance to prove he belongs on the team going forward. It will be interesting to see what Holmgren can do with him. And he's still only a couple of injuries away from more game time. I'm not declaring his career finished yet.

Hey...I just pointed out that he isn't an NFL starting-caliber QB. I wish that was different - it'd be great to have a Zip starting at QB in the League - but I'm not going to trade in my common sense and football knowledge for a pair of pom-poms.

Give it a rest already. Look, Anderson is the guy and is looking very good. As a Browns fan, I would have it no other way as long as they are winning. Charlie may be the waterboy, but he made more money these last few years than you could ever hope for. I don't know what you are giddy about. The football team layed an egg this year, as did Charlie, and right now our program looks like the trash of college sports. It really sucks right now.

sgm should've been banned from the board a long time ago. he's an f'n moron, and he's not even a zips fan, he a suckeye fan even though he's never attended the school.
Banned for what? Having a minority opinion? And as I've said numerous times, I cheer for Akron #1, OSU #2...and it's not even close. I've noted this numerous times before...having trouble with reading comprehension?

This not really worth my time. SGM, once again you chirp spewing irrelevant statistics while ignoring the truth. And, truth matters.During the preseason the Clowns wasted many, many valuable snaps on Quinn. They never really gave Frye the snaps needed to lock in.Add in that in the first game of the season against a veteran Pittsburgh defense (one of the best in the NFL) the Clown O-line was still not in sync. The Steelers ran over, through and around Kevin Schaffer like he was not even on the field. This was a four lane highway right to Frye. But, as SGM knows, those five sacks were Charlie'sfault. Pretty darn tough to think of what to do when you are running for your life thanks to Kevin "I'm a hole" Schaffer. The Clowns originally brought Frye in to the fold because he is a scrambling roll out QB. The new offensive coordinator much prefers a pocket passer (which Anderson is). Thus, I think Charlie was set up by the coordinator to fail. A careful analysis of the plays Frye was given to run were not of the type that best fit his operating style.I think the Clowns have been twice surprised. First, the O-line jelled a lot sooner than they expected. Second, this made Anderson a lot better looking QB.Of course, the fun part begins next Sunday when Quinn gets his first game experience after the Steelers level Anderson and send him to the hospital with a concussion. Here is a clue: the Steelers are the number one blitzing defense in the NFL.Next season the Clowns start all over at QB as they invest the bank in Quinn casting hard working Anderson aside just as they did Frye.I'll say it again for all you slow learners ... Charlie Frye will get his ring by being the starting QB of a team that wins the Super Bowl BEFORE the Clowns ever play ina Super Bowl game.

All I know is that the world has turned completely upside down when a Browns QB is consistently listed on Yahoo!'s "Top Fantasy Performers" list. It really kinda freaks me out.
Haha yeah...I was watching PTI last week and they referred to the Browns "big time offense" and "pro-bowl caliber Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow, and Derek Anderson" and had to pinch myself lol

This isn't anything new. I reported from the basement months ago that sgm was an a-hole! He continues to try to convince us that he's an Akron fan first, yet knows the 3 deep roster of tosu's team from 6 years ago and would be hard pressed to name 6 Zips from 6 years ago. Just go away!

You deserved the crap when discussing Frye's senior year or any other year for that matter. Just look how atrocius the The University of Akron's QB situation has become in three short years. On any scale, CF was infinitly better than what we have now.

What do you base this on? When have we had a conversation regarding the Zips? I've followed the team from 2000 (my first year at UA) on....from Butchie Washington to Carton Jackson...from Brandon Payne to Dennis Kennedy...from Dwight Smith to Reggie Corner...bash me if you please, but at least present things you can back up. I don't even know how - how would you know how much Zips knowledge I possess? Are you really that ignorant, or are you just hard-pressed for things to say?

We all know the facts...1) Frye played behind some offensive lines that could not start at most D-1 colleges. 2) He never had the receiving corp that Anderson has now. At least not all of them being healthy at the same time.3) He never had a good OC.4) He never had a top-caliber running back to open up the passing game. As a Browns fan, I'm happy to see Anderson playing well. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the situation is now much, much, much different than it was during Frye's tenure as the starter. Anderson is getting sacked about once per game, and he is not mobile at all. I think that just about explains how things have changed. If you think Frye was bad, then you think Jeff Garcia is bad also. He played at Cleveland under similar circumstances, and look at how he is performing now.Oh, by the way, Anderson still has a long way to go to be as proficient as Frye. How amazing...Charlie completed about 10% more of his passes than Anderson has, and did it under much more adverse circumstances. There's a reason why Anderson never was able to beat out Frye for the starting job. Like most of us have said all along, the point is that we DON'T KNOW how good Frye will be as a pro quarterback. He's not been in a very favorable situation to show anything as of yet. But from what we're hearing, the Seattle staff, system, and West Coast offense is good for him, and will give him the necessary tutoring he needs to develop. According to the paper on Sunday, Holmgren is very impressed with him, and would not hesitate to use him.sgm...please feel free to join the ranks of those Browns fans that continually embrace the backup QB as the savior of the organization. But, doesn't the recent developments, more than ever, prove that the QB was not the problem??
