Dr Z
Coach Moorhead is very nice guy, but we need an offense that can run the ball.I don't see that happening in the offense that coach M is running. If you were JD, would you be looking for an offensive coordinator in the off season? If you are going to hire, whom would you interview? Remember the salary when making your suggestions.I'm pretty sure we won't get Norm Chow.PS This is not our only problem, just one of them. GP1
Successful teams are still running the read option. We have the players to run it with the exception of the QB.Interview coaches, probably in their mid-20 and right out of graduate school, who have been with successful programs running the offense. Make that person your OC. Other coaches will complain of feel slighted, but that's too bad.If McDaniels can be the oc at New England at a young age, why not bring a young guy here. zff
What about Tom Stacy. I know he was part of the former coaches staff but he has a very good football mind. He also did a wonderful job with Frye. He has said he wants to get back into college football. Although he might have to take a pay cut from his current job Massillon Tiger Head Football Coach. ZachTheZip
I like Moorhead as a person, but there's no way in hell he can be allowed to remain our Offensive Coordinator after this year. The problem is, he is one of our best recruiters and canning him would turn a lot of players off. I wouldn't mind seeing him doing something else for the team. Maybe JD can take over the offense like he did with special team and then put Moorhead in charge of specials with JD guiding him.If (WHEN, do you hear me Mack Rhoades? WHEN!) we get a new OC, I would like to see a local HS coach from the Cleveland or Akron area, which would help with our recruiting of the deep local talent pool. They can't do a much worse job than Moorhead, anyways.

skip-zip
Of all of the people from the old regime, Stacy is a guy I would want back here.I really believe our running game has made great strides this year. The offensive line has gelled a bit, and both Williams and Allen look to have tremendous potential. The problem is that when we can't complete passes, more guys start to come up on the line of scrimmage. That is exactly what happened last night. akronad
Yes, we are offensive(stink) on offense. :o However, Coach Moorhead is not all of the problem. Who do you think he answers to? Who do you think has a say so in our offensive schemes? Who do you think has the authority to override an y call made by Coach M? That's right, JD!!! I know for a fact that when Coach made the offensive call on several criticla 3rd downs this season, that they were overridden by JD. And guess what? We didn't convert any of those 3rd downs. Whether we have Coach M or get another OC, they did to be on the same page as JD.

He's as solid as they come. His youngest graduates HS this year, so the timing would be good.
ziptrumpet87
Is this a reference to an underwhelming season at Massillon or something else of which I am not aware?see story hereNot saying he was aware or had anything at all to do with it, but you don't want that kind of thing to follow him, not that it necessarily would, but it could.I did realize they had a worse than usual season, but I have no idea what the reason was. ZachTheZip
Just listened to JD on ZipsLive. When asked what Akron would be doing in practice to try to establish some offensive consistency before we play CMU, he answered "Oh, the same things we have been doing" Newsflush JD: whatever you have been doing isn't working. It's time to try something else. You have absolutely nothing to lose this game.

Lee Adams
Brookhart said it on the pre-game last night...teams HAVE to have a MOBILE QB to give Defenses another weapon to plan for... why in the name of good coaching decisions does he insist on playing a statue at QB...the decision to put CJ7 in the game WHEN he did was pathetic...it penalized CJ7 and the team...it was an act of desparation made because the coaches poorly managed the first 3 quarters... timmyboy
what about local HS coach. Thom Mcdaniels. He did one heck of a job running the old Mckinley offenses, then went to warren harding where he did a great job, now he is at massillion perry where he did a very good job. He is a very good coach who could help pull the local talent an keep them here at akron.
zip37
If I were rich, I would buy out the whole mess & start over, we haven't had a decent coach since JimmyDennison, while little ole Mount Union and YSU managed to get absolutely GREAT coaches. Why the heck can't we do it?

RACER
i know everyone is against winters comng back as o/c.i ask #1 who are you going to get in here then for what we pay,and #2you cannot tell me this team would be as bad offensively.winters always had team in the high 20-low 30 thirties.if i am paul winters im not so sure that i would come back now if offered the job.he probably would since he is an alum but you would really have to think it over.if this team has another bad season the entire staff may be gone anyways.at least right now he is a head coach.im not sure what he is making, but i would think it cannot be alott less than what he would make here as an o/c. zipboy
WE DO NOT NEED A HIGH SCHOOL COACH IN HERE!... REPEAT ...GET SOMEONE WITH COLLEGE COACHING EXPERIENCE!!!I agree. If there is turnover and you bring in a high school guy to coach TEs or WRs I would understand, but not a coordinator.
