Akron vs. Temple

Tonight, Akron takes on Temple in the JAR. Temple will be the best team we have faced so far this season, so everybody needs to head down there and help with the JAR's incredible home-court advantage. Especially the AK-Rowdies and students. All you have to do to sit behind the basket with the Rowdies if you're a student is go in through the student entrance. It's that simple, so help us fill in the student section. Saturday's AK-Rowdy crowd was loud, but there were maybe only twenty of them in a seasting area that can hold around 100 students. So show up and bring your friends! The AK-Oldies were present and did a great job from the stands (nice job getting a mention by the announcer, it's much more noticable than at the football games), but just like the students, we will need more people in the stands to help the team win today. Temple has already beaten Marist and Bowling Green, and has played a much tougher schedule than us. What are your thoughts on this game? I say that Akron will win a close one.

The outscored BG by 17 in the second half to win. They played a 7 man rotation- 4 of them listed as guards. The two leading scorers are 6-5.They also play a 6-9 forward and 7 foot center.

Is Akron improving? If so, this will be a close game and Akron should win by a few points. Making foul shots will be critical. KD will eventually get this ship righted. But it may be too early in the season given the injuries and ineligibility problems. Wood, Linhart and Conyers need to demonstrate leadership by accentuated/accelerated performance.

If the same team that showed up Saturday night vs. Binghamton shows up tonight, we're in trouble. We'll lose. I agree Linhart needs to have a big game...a double-double type game...if we're to hang with them. Milum will be key too. He has the athleticism to match Temple's big men. Can Ced play effectively on 1 day's rest? We'll need him to go for 15+.I think Dials and Wood will have solid games.41-2 at home under Dambrot. But only two of those wins were without Dru and Travis.Temple should be favored by something like 8. I'd agree with that.

Believe it or not, we're listed as a 6 point FAVORITE in this game.I guess we do get some respect when playing at home.
Got close last time with the Binghampton game...so here goes.Zips get great inside play from Wood and Bardo. Look for Mike's first career double-double, or at least close to it. Zips hit 65-70% of their free throws and a strong game from the guards, led by mcnees 6 assists and dials 4 3pt baskets, the zips win by a surprisingly slim margin.Akron 77Temple 73

A 4 point win would appear to be logical. Temple's Tyndale and Christmas can both be explosive.and if they are on their game it could be a long night. Zips will need their A game tonight and that still might not do it.

First of all, this is a good win. It's against a team that almost anyone ranks higher than us right now. And getting them at home gave us a chance to get a good win.Ok...I'm going to stay away from the obvious problems with free throw shooting and address something else that really concerns me.Going into this season, we probably knew that Wood/Dials/Middleton would carry the scoring load. But they need help.We probably thought that Linhart would pick up some of the deficit left by the Travis/Joyce departure. But that's not happening. Now what?Has Jimmy Conyers finally shown that he might be our best small forward? If so, we need him. We HAVE to get more points from that spot. Can we expect any continuation of the offensive development of Quade Milum? Not seeing it so far. McNees and Bardo have sat on the bench for an entire season now, and I really thought they would both be hungry to produce. It now appears that both are tentative, and aren't quite ready to pitch in with any significance offensively.Thank God for our defense!!!Anyway...those are my thoughts.

Zips win 67-65. We got a glimpse of Akron's A-game during the back end of the first half. Once this team is 100% we will be a very very good team. Until then, they'll just have to keep fighting and hope their luck holds a little longer. Wyoming is next, and then we play @Winthrop in the toughest test of the non-conference season.

They got really close to steal this one in the end.We still managed to win by 2. Still a great early win.For those who were at the game, please provide extremely detailed and extended descriptions and thoughts for those of us who live away :( How was the crowd? the rowdies? etc...
Hmmm...crowd was similar to last week...maybe a little larger. I'd guess in the neighborhood of 2,500-2,700. Rowdies were unimpressive, sad to say. Band side was packed, opposite side was about half full. Nice to see people on both ends at least standing and paying attention to the game. We need Mike Bardo to being to produce or J Wood will be burnt out by the beginning of the conference season. We lack size, but luckily so did temple. Zips won the rebounding battle fairly handily, I believe. We're gonna deal with another year of poor free throw shooting. Zips were in the neighborhood of 55% today. Just awful. McNees has the ability to create his own shot, it'll develop over the season. I'm happy to see that. Cedrick will be the difference maker in lot of games, unbelievable touch from the outside, better than last year. He's the only one right now of creating his own shot from the perimeter. McNees should be able to do that consistently soon. Defense played inspired, it's the only reason we won the game. Let's hope the crowds keep growing throughout the season. See everyone saturday.GO ZIPS!

Yes, but it was more than saturday. Not a bad guess by me. :D

this is more than likely be a dumb question but how can Temple be in the MAC in football and the Atlantic 10 in Basketball?
Because the MAC was stupid enough to let Temple join as a football-only member, thus screwing up the football schedules and ruining our chance at bringing in a 14th member to boost MAC basketball.
