zipsbandman
I've been on some ND message boards and word is that Notre Dame players are voting on whether they really want to go to the bowl or not after Tyrone Willingham "resigned". If that happens, the Zips would be in. I guess we'll see what comes out of this.

Does that open the door for 6-6 teams for the one spot ? What a crazy year.

Guest Guest
Bowl Bid Hangs In Balance -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pete Sampson BlueandGold.com Editor Depending on the outcome of a players’ meeting Tuesday night, Notre Dame may opt out of the Insight Bowl. The bid for the Dec. 28 game played in Phoenix, Ariz., was accepted Sunday, but athletics director Kevin White indicated he’ll listen to players’ opinions before reaching a final decision on postseason play. That’s news to Insight Bowl Chairman Armando Flores.
Guest Guest
If Notre Dame players say no, there would be no other bowl eligible teams (above .500) for the Insight to choose from. There are currently 56 bowl-eligible teams for the 56 spots available in the 28 bowls. That number could drop if Hawaii (6-5) loses to Michigan Stare and Tulane (5-5) loses to Louisville. In that case, the Insight might have to seek a waiver from the NCAA to invite a non-bowl eligible team. Possibilities then would include Akron (6-5), Louisiana Tech and Northwestern, which are both 6-6. http://und.collegesports.com/sports/m-foot.../113004aac.html UPDATES PLEASE AND THANKS FOR THE SITES
GP1
Someone asked what happens if there are not enough teams with six wins. I have the answer. It is from the NCAA Rules, Chapter 23, Section II. "If in the event that there are not enough bowl teams, those writers in ZipsNation.org with more than 20 posts will play in a bowl. In order to even the playing field, the opponent of Zipsnation.org will be required to stay awake for 48 hours prior to game time and consume 15 shots, per player, of Jack Daniels one hour prior to the game." I like our chances guys. Now go get a work out in. We may have some work to do.
zipper
Possibilities then would include Akron (6-5), Louisiana Tech and Northwestern, which are both 6-6. But Akron is *already* bowl eligible.
