west virginia Zips fan
would you rather get into the NCAA tournament yet lose in the first round or go to the NIT and get to the final four of the NIT?
Blue & Gold
I know this is a hypothetical question, but I think we'd have a better shot of winning a first round game in the NCAA than getting to the Final Four of the NIT. The NIT is a tough tourney as well and making it to New York is a tall order. But I'd rather make the NCAA tourney because 1) it'd be the first time in longer than I can remember and 2) that means K.e.n.t. would have lost! w00t
would you rather get into the NCAA tournament yet lose in the first round or go to the NIT and get to the final four of the NIT?Definitely rather win the MAC Tourney and play in the real tournament. I'm sure the team would be in the camp as well.
zen
Even if we didn't have ultimate success, I'd rather experience the big show
Captain Kangaroo
If you don't want to play in the NCAA tournament, then you shouldn't be playing D1 college basketball.
Zip Watcher
To me, the real question is this:In the off chance that the Zips don't go dancing to the NCAA, can/will Mack & KD turn down the NIT bid in an effort to get into the CBI instead.A potential for 6 games including a best of 3 final series in the 16 team CBI. If the NCAA isn't in the cards, I'd rather be in the CBI than NIT.
flipthezip
My understanding is that the CBI is going to make offers to teams as soon as the NCAA brackets are announced. They are not waiting for the NIT's leftovers. May be some interesting choices for teams especially since the NIT is now run by the NCAA.My opinion is win the tourney and go to the NCAA. Even as a 1 and done, we get the exposure. 10's of millions filling out brackets seeing the name "Akron". Also, Steve French stated this morning that one of his dreams is to call an NCAA tournament game. He already has a bowl game - which I would have bet against occuring before an NCAA tourney. Quickzips
At the end of the day, people remember teams that make it to the NCAA's (want a good example, take a look at bobcatattack and how longingly they talk about their '05 appearance). Noone cares if your in the NIT, regardless of how far you go. Does anyone even know who won the NIT last year? Without looking it up. Without looking it up.He speaks the truth. I really, really, really, really want to see this team in the real tournament. Watching the selection show this Sunday with my laptop in front of me just waiting to book a plane ticket when they flush Akron's name across the screen would make every bad loss, banked in three-pointer, and postseason snub that I've seen as a Roos fan worth it. GoZips88
NCAA is my choice for any of the reasons already presented above. I look up at the banners hanging in the JAR and it's the 'NCAA' banner that stands out to me. The one that says 'NIT' just rings hollow with me. If I have to choose between invitations from the NIT or CBI, I'd turn to the NI committee, return the favor , and accept the one from the CBI. Career-limiting move on my part towards the NIT (NCAA)? Yeah, but I'm still smarting from last year ...
zipdiehard
Speaking of the banners in the JAR...has anyone else noticed that the one shows "MAC Champions" with two years? Shouldn't it read MAC East Division Champions? In answer to this post...NCAA all the way. I went to Minneapolis back in '86 and it was a blast. After we nearly beat Michigan I had non Akron person wanting to buy my OVC Champs shirt that I was wearing! The recognition doesn't compare between the two (or three now).Do we have a realistic chance of NIT or CBI bid? Does the selection commitee do a make up call for the heat they took last year? bUAkronG
as far as the one and done thing is concerned, I wouldn't speak to fast. I think our guys have proved they can play when they want to(see: Dayton game earlier this year). I think it's safe to say, though, that if we make it to the NCAA's we will have a better showing than the Red Tweety Birds did last year.
