Some campus construction pics

Recommended Posts

I took a stroll around campus today, after managing to borrow a nice (not cell-phone) digital camera. There is more going on than Infocision Stadium in terms of construction. I tried to capture everything that has changed in the last few months. This campus is near unrecognizable to anyone who hasn't seen it in the last four years. This is Auburn. They are completely re-doing the street-level area. I think it might stay as a parking deck like it was before, but it might also become more classrooms for Engineering.Looking North:AuburnNorth.jpgLooking West:AuburnWest.jpgThe original part Guzzetta Hall is getting a facelift. I can only hope it looks as nice as the brand-new addition to the building in the back.Guzzetta.jpgThe Korean War memorial got some new plaques on the marble columns.KoreanMemorial.jpgThe Student Union is getting a nice wall of rocks near the entrance by the roundabout.Union-1.jpgThe pile of dirt that used to be Carrol Hall is coming along nicely.CarrolHall.jpgThe parking lot outside Memorial Hall has been removed, likely for the same greenspace that involves the former Carrol Hall.MemorialLot.jpgAll sorts of old houses are getting boarded up across Spicer, possibly in preperation for the supposed Greek Village project. These are on the remaining part of Nash Street.NashStreetEast.jpgThey also added another clock tower on the corner of Spicer and Buchtel, by the Chapel, but I couldn't take anymore pics.Be sure to check out my pics of the stadium construction site in the Stadium Cam thread, as well.

The Auburn parking deck is being converted into classroom space. The parking deck across the street is going to be expanded.
More specifically, the Auburn renovation is primarily for the biology department, not engineering.
The biology department is going to move into the space that is now parking and biomedical engineering will be moving into a renovated version of the old biology department space.

KId,Your pics are great! Thanks a lot. For the poster who felt Carroll would stay green, don't count on it. Memorial Hall is next to come down. Then on the combined Carroll and Memorial Halls footprint will be the new college of education building. Look for the building to be moved over towards old Memorail Hall to make room for the 4.6 acre outdoor living room. It will be fabulous and a beautiful entry to the south side of Buchtel Hall.

Thanks for the pics B) p.s. I remember walking on the bridge to Auburn, and it was constructed so poorly that you could rip off large chunks of the "concrete" with your bare hands- just like the incredible hulk!!!!! I think the entire section of campus was made of sand and glue.

Does anyone know what the time frame is for the completion of the outdoor living room? I'm getting married in Nov. and want to take pictures on campus and would love it if that setting was completed.
 Wish i could help, but I don't know for sure. In early May I spoke witht he dept of development fundraiser for the College of Education. He wanted it doen before the students returned in the fall, but that was only a wish and he admitted he was unsure of the timeline for completion. It ought to be a great place for pics when its done. Good luck in your wedding plans and don't, under any circumstances, many a Golden F.l.a.s.h. because :screwks:
