  1. Why are some of you dumping on the football Zips when they have yet to play a game? Akron has gathered some of the best coaching talent in the country. Give them a chance to show their talents and abilities. For starters, a former Akron linebacker, Chase Blackburn was not even drafted out of college now possesses two Super Bowl rings he earned. Blackburn was a division 2 size and talent player according to some of you. Bad mouth a quality coach and his staff; what class. The Cant State boards need you.
  2. This is akin to a never ending fable. Here is the truth. Which will offend many. The University had for some time desired to move up to "one-A". The Athletic Director position had been repeatedly offered to coach Dennison. He repeatedly wanted to "coach one more game, one more season". Akron played Middle Tennessee in a crucial football game where the winner would be assured a post season playoff bid. Middle thumped Akron 25-0. Then president, Bill Muse, was livid and stomped around the press box fuming. He swore loudly that coach D had coached his last game as a Zip. Dennison was fired. A search was begun and Gerry Faust was hired. Now, this scenario does not fit the Dennison supporters fairy tale version. How do I know that this is the truth? Well, I was there in the press box and heard every word. Up to that time and for days afterwards Gerry Faust's name was never mentioned. Faust was never contacted until after Dennison was fired. The truth hurts. Now the revisionists and liars can have their say.
  3. This is the best insight of the entire thread. There is no official statement of any kind. Speculating as to who is out is silly. Especially since no one has any clue to the abilities of these players. Kretzer, for one, is bigger, taller and more aggressive than McAdams. Zeke Marshall has become a man. And none of you have seen him in the past few months. I have. GameChanger44 knows her son. He will dominate this coming year. There are several ways to add a player without back stabbing a current player. Wait for a news release. No one should be cut loose for an untested player.
  4. Isn't the CMU game on FSN Ohio TV?Channel 31 on Time Warner
  5. What a surprise, CANT ROO DUTY pretending to be a Zip.The jig is up. You were a dumb A$$ from the beginning.Let me guess. You are seventeen and a proud Cant freshwoman.Or is that a freshfemale? Hell, I did not even know that Cant even has "boards". All I ever found was a stem run off the MAC bulletin board.Amazing, fifteen hundred student fans and not one of themcapable of creating a working blog. Small time.Suggestion for you ROO DUTY. Why don't you come to theJAR dressed up as a roo pinata on March ninth? You could personally enjoy getting the hell beat out of youjust like Ham 'n Cheese will get.
  6. Correct. Obviously everyone is voting against the top roo.People do that. They long to be a winner while knocking winners off their pedestal. This attack will not let up. Next week, if we get there, willthe toughest week of them all.It is best that Zippy face Goldy. Hairy Dawg gave Zippythe closest battle. But, by that last week of regular season, no one had any incentive to vote for Zippy tohelp their own mascot.Hopefully the entire Akron-Cleveland community willget out a massive vote. This is about community pride. We are all involved. Sadly, I find UA students thatdo not give a damn. Zippy is the only nonBCS mascot in the race. UA is byfar the smallest of the four remaining universities.Vote. Vote, Vote.
  7. Who the hell is the S.I.D.? (Sports Information Director) Do you know? I sure do not.Last S.I.D. I knew personally was Ken McDonald.Who ever the S.I.D. is he sure as HELL is not doing his job.Not one TV station even mentioned the game outcome.Only Channel 3 had coverage of the Temple game.Do people even know a game is being played? Where isthe advance pregame press?640 WHLO was pimping Ohio State ( a team they do noteven broadcast, nor does BARF 1350 ).Tips and Tidbits. This was a "bought" game. Akron is not playing Wyomingout there next year. Next game against the CowPokeswill be in Akron in 2009 beginning a home-n-home series.Akron will probably be Gonzaga's next intended victimin the 2008 Battle of Seattle. Not confirmed, rumored.Wyoming prides themselves on being masters of the dunk.Prior to last night's game Wyoming had yielded just .8 dunksper game. No more than one dunk to each of four teamsthat managed to dunk on them.Wyoming averages 2.2 dunks per contest going into last night.Quade Milum had three dunks and Jeremiah had his monster one handed slam. And, Wyoming, they got one dunk on a put back.
  8. Just posted this on the MAC board. Inresponse to a number of clackers chewingtheir cuds about Akron's "weak" OOCschedule."Well now, I frankly do not know if "Jimmy" is fearful of Akron or not. I do know thathis teams have lost four straight to the Zips.In most coaches circles that would be a causefor concern. Are you implying that a fine coachsuch as Jim Christian is too stupid to be wary ofa team that has skinned his arse four straight? The Zips schedule appears to be pretty decent.Getting two Div-1 schools to come to your housewithout you going to their house beats buyinggames against Div-3 schools that most MACschools settle for.Getting a home-n-home series with Dayton isout of reach for most MAC schools. Winthropfinished in the top 25. That would appear to be a good schedule since that is a home-homeseries.Scheduling Wyoming implies that the Zips areheaded out to Seattle or Spokane the followingseason for a match up with Gonzaga. Careto wager that the Zags will be in Akron the following season? What, no takers? This schedule gives the Zips EIGHT OOC home games, three neutral court games and threeaway games with quality opponents. Two ofwhich will be in Akron next season. How manyof you would like home games against Winthrop and Dayton in the same season? Oh?That is the type of OOC scheduling Ohio Statepulls off year in, year out. Want to complainthat Thad Matta is afraid to play the big boys? You would rather play five major majors on the road and get your butts kicked five times. Now how does that improve your RPI? Sinceyou know you will lose to the Zips duringconference play? The Zips OOC may be the best in the conference.Ask your head coach."
  9. Latest word on Gonzaga. No Gonzaga.
  10. ZIP37 is right on target about Darryl Roberts.Jeter is close to becoming a Zip. Its not official.Let us just say that he was spotted on campusrecently. MRASOR will probably have details soon.
  11. A little birdy told me that Darryl Roberts is enrolledat Akron, on campus, and in class.Word is he will have to pay his own way the first year. This sure adds to the depth at point guard.

    Roo Zoo

In this age of political correctness we are about tosee the demise of an extremely important elementof Akron Zips sports. The trashing (aka destruction)of the AK-Rowdies.Foolish at the extreme. If it works and it ain't broke, don't fix it.Roo Zoo has the makings of a five year old's mind. All the toughness and panache of a butter cookie.AK-Rowdies is hard hitting. AK-Rowdies makes a solid statement as to the tough guy image U of Zippybadly needs.Junk "Roo Poo".Students AK-Rowdies is yours. Do not let admin weeniesturn this rock solid foundation into peanut Butter.Roo Foo, my ass.
  13. I see a sucka, er, a fish, quickly took the bait.
  14. Mike Trivisono? Is that slime bag still around?
  15. Q: What has twenty-eight legs and two boobs?A: The Cant State dance team.
  16. GOZIPS, sorry can't back you on this one.It was time for Kennedy to go.Mack Rhoades had plenty of input, feedback, call it what you will. He did not make this decision in a vacuum.I attended a number of women's games this past season. Most of the time theyplayed like they were unaware of basicbasketball skills. New recruits were notgoing to improve the lack of skills so welldemonstrated over the past four years. It is high time to stop the experimentingand get a proven division one headcoach who wants to move up from a lowmajor program. The MAC is at least a decentmid-major conference for women's sports.
  17. Once again all the schools not consideredamong the elite took a major face slapwith the AP "electing" North Carolina'sRoy Williams their college coach of the year. Are they serious? All Williams did wasguide umpteen former McDonald'sAll Americans to a top ten (in their poll)finish. Mike Garland, the recentlyfired coach of Cleveland State, couldhave done at least as much with thattalent pool. The AP voting was "Williams received29 votes, followed by Jay Wright of Villanova with 15 and Bruce Pearl of Tennessee with 11."There were 72 voters. These three mengot 55 of the vote total. That spreadsthe remaining 17 votes thinly enoughthat Jim Laranaga of George Masonreceived less than 11, if any at all.Jim Laranaga is the consensus coach ofthe year among college basketball fans.
  18. Z-A how about a link to your information.Neither the ONN web site or the ONNprogramming guide make any mentionof ONN televising the semi-final games. This is wierd because ONN televised the girls games live and repeated replaysstarting with the quarter finals.
  19. Coach Dambrot gingerly shepherded a young man pre-game in the JAR on ESPN2 Saturday. It tooksome digging to discover that he is probablyJonathon Jones a point guard that plays forOkemos HS in Michigan. News Article On Jonathon Jones
  20. I say that ESPN and probably ABC and theother TV networks have far too much influence on the NCAA tournament(S).We MAC fans are moderately excited aboutBracket Buster Saturday. In truth, what isreally happening Saturday on ESPN andits affiliates? All the prime time games onESPN will be Big Ten and Big East games.Oh, sure, Creighton is playing at midnighteast coast time. Wheeeeee.Bracket Buster is just that, a bust.Unless Akron upsets Nevada on the roadthe committee is justified in giving just onebid to the MAC. Tell me how any MAC teammerits a second bid given that your teamdoes not win the MAC tournament. At thispoint in time, an Akron win lowers their RPIto a point they have to be considered if theydo not win the MAC tourney. No one elsein the MAC is in a position to lower their RPIany where near the 45 or lower level neededto even be considered. It will not happen.ESPN shills are beginning their annual bleatabout how many teams this big name conferenceand that over rated conference should get tothe dance. Today they were discussing thePAC-10. One commentator suggested thatthe PAC-10 "deserved" FIVE bids. The other commentator suggested just four. The fourth best RPI in the PAC-10 isCalifornia at 54. The fifth is Stanford at 76.Since no non-major with an RPI greater than45 has ever received an at large bid to the dance, where is the justification?BTW, last week Stanford had a lofty RPI of 98.The jump came from LOSING to Gonzaga bytwo points on the road. Gonzaga's RPI from last week to this week slid from 10 to 12.With the NCAA now owning the NIT we canreasonably expect the situation to just get worse.A mediocre Penn State team can outdraw and winat home against a weak, hand picked opponentbetter than a decent Can't State team playing aquality, deserving mid-major opponent. Can't is a team that could easily beat Penn State in College Station and never get the opportunity.Further, we can expect the NCAA/NIT justfiyingone bid conferences by pointing to the "look wesent your regular season conference championto play on the road at Big Ten/PAC Ten mediocre, undeserving school. So, mid-majors, shut up.It is time to junk the Bracket Buster myth. It is time for Mythbusters.
  21. Took the time to venture over to MAC Center tocheer for NIU in hopes of an upset over Cant.No such luck. NIU is not a very good basketballteam. But, that is not what this post is about.I sat in amazement at how EMPTY the MAC Centerwas Sunday afternoon. Would have guessed wellunder 2000 in attendance. Entire upper sectionswere completely empty. The lower chair backs onthe side across from the team benches were abouthalf full. The student end zone sections wereempty enough to play frisbee.Boy was I wrong. Official attendance was 3476.I figured out how they got that total. Since they cant count they proved they can multiply.Well at least by two. They must have taken theactual total of 1723 and multiplied by two givingthem a much more impressive 3476.Either that or they were counting every one on campusat game time.Since I arrived just at tip off time I know the parkinglot was empty because I parked right up at the road. Not deep back in the lot as I did for the Zips gameto which I arrived over an hour early.Honestly, there were fifty cars at most in the west lot.Cant read. Cant write. Cant count. Cant protect theirstudent section. Cant State.
  22. Bill Livingston is talking out his a$$.I was at the Cant game yesterday. They suck. NIU played terrible, basic basketball. As in totally confused on defense. Coach Judsonhas no clue about aggressive defense or how toattack a zone.Haynes and Scott were wide open time and againbecause NIU plays terrible defense. Never onceheard them call a switch during man coverage.Never once saw them double a Cant player orrun a simple two man trap.Only thing Livingston got right was criticzing NIU forthe silly attempt at an alley oop when down a ton.The player should have gone straight to the basketor dished to the trailer coming down his right side.Speaking of going to the basket, NIU gets called fora charging foul on a fastbreak when the Cant player was moving the entire time and banged into the NIUplayer. Same cheating ref that homered the Zips afew nights ago made the call. Later in the game hecalled NIU for blocking on a Cant breakaway. Theofficial was and remains a thief.Speaking of a thief, lying is stealing. Cant announceda crowd of 3476. Well, excuse me, there were nomore than 2000 in attendance. At half time I personallycounted FIFTY-SEVEN people in the end zone closestto the Cant team bench. Entire sections of the upperdeck were completely devoid of people.Student attendance, especially considering its a Sundaygame and the bars were closed should have brought outmore than the 150 or so students who actually showed up.I sat with the eight or ten NIU team family members andhad a good time chatting with them. When one Cant fanheckled us about the poor play I asked him when Cant is going to get a football team. He went off on how luckyNIU was the past few years. As a cheap shot, Livingston's column is great locker materialfor the Zips.Saw Tammy Pluto and Ellen Alexander at the Cant game.I fully expect just as gushy an article from Pluto.
  23. Robbed?Raped is a better description.I do not give a damn about Cant State.Butler? Who really cares?Think about this. The Zips have to play ona Friday night. Which means they travel onThursday. That means missing Thursdayclasses. Also means one less rest dayafter the Tuesday night home game.Since the next MAC game will be on thefollowing Wednesday playing on Saturdaymakes much more sense. Especiallyconsidering that Akron probably has thelongest travel distance of any team excepting the Hawaii game.ESPNU the unknown network?Fresno (RPI about 335) playing at gutlessCreighton (they refused to play Akron)on prime time. Some one at ESPN and/orebay took a bribe. No other explanationpossible. Here is the saddest part. Cant gets an easyroad victory next year at a declining Butler.Akron gets Nevada at home (maybe, rememberNiagara?). And to help Nevada, expect Dambrotand company to help them schedule anotherOOC game in this area. So, Cleveland State,Cant State or even the lucky Suckeyes benefitfrom the Zips good play. Can only wonder what the TV line up would havebeen had the Zips defeated Cant last Saturday.
  24. Childish spleen venting.Damning the Zips after a tight three point win at home.Rubbish.It was not Akron's guards or the coach that lost the game. The stats show the problem. Rebounds. To lose by threewhen out rebounded by eleven indicates a team playedreally well except in rebounding the ball.Akron needs a rebounder. A guard (Middleton) had morerebounds than Travis. That indicates that Ohio did anexcellent job of boxing him out. A second post playerwith Travis' athleticism would cure the problem. Alas, hesits. Jerimah Wood is sidelined as the result of a cheapshot put on him by an Ohio player last year.Right now Can't, not Akron, Ohio or Miami is playing thebest ball in the MAC. Be prepared.BTW, for you basketball geniuses, guards slashing into the lane is fine method to score points and get your opponent into foul trouble. Its not a coaching short coming. As for Walther quiting, so what? He will quit on Ohio whenthey need him the most. A champion does not sulk whenfacing competition. A champion thrives on competition.See you in the JAR for the rematch.
