  1. I submit that the only reason the 2014 edition of the Zips appears to do more to defeat itself than the opposition is because for the 1st time in many years the team actually has enough talent to not allow the opposition to completely dominate them. The Zips have lost 3 games so far this year. The PSU game should have been closer, but that still doesn’t change the likelihood that only one of these losses could have been turned into a victory had the Zips not “shot themselves in the foot”. Losing to OU sucked about as hard as any loss in recent memory, only because we all know how far the program has progressed. But let’s keep it in perspective. If we snag a win in Muncie, all goals remain on the table (even if we don’t , it’s not impossible to imagine closing on a 4 game win streak – the East is terrible).

  2. Ticket prices are not the problem. My guess is 99% of the people in Summit County have no idea what the price to a Zips game is.

  5. Zips will beat Ball State and Bowling Green with Pohl at the helm. All doubters (including myself) will be silenced as Pohl's fearless leadership rallies the Zips after the Bobkittens defeat last week. Akron 27 Ball St 17

  6. Exactly. And it goes beyond that. Technically, from a sales perspective, you would give away or discount product to induce future sales. For decades, we found that with having 25k at the Acme/Zip game...and 10k for every other game....that this clearly wasn't helping us make money in the future. Like I tell everyone: As a fan, I'd love to see the place full....whatever it takes. But as a businessman, I know it's a bad, losing strategy, with many drawbacks, and no future benefits.

  7. Very well said. Having spent the majority of my 30+ year working career in Sales, this is exactly you can't start giving away tickets. We'd never be able to sell tickets and make money again. And let me add this....$25 is already DIRT CHEAP for a D-1A college football game. So, until someone can show me that Akronites are not going to the games because the ticket prices are too high, there's absolutely nothing to be accomplished by lowering the prices at all.

  9. So our product is worth $25 a ticket? That must be why our stadium is full. People are sure showing up to the games now on weekends! With good ol' value of $25 a pop! I'm a season ticket holder. I wouldn't be that upset about it. I'd rather have a full stadium than sit starring at a bunch of empty seats. I buy season tickets because I support the Zips and the school I graduated from. (It also helps that with one price I get all the tickets to all the sports teams). Bottom line: The Athletic department should be making whatever package it can that will get people into the stadium. Maybe not $5 tickets, but something worth while for young families...young people...old people...the mix of people who live in the area. Because right now, it's not a value enough to attract people. I really do think that the complaining of season ticket holders is being overestimated. And if it is, then have fun sitting in an empty stadium season ticket holders! $5 tickets for one game, to get people in the stadium isn't something to complain about. Considering the most basic season ticket holder package (with none of the "free stuff") amounts to $12.5 a game (general admission season tickets are $75 a season). I can see why a young family wouldn't want $75 season tickets (despite how good of a buy it is) because (for a family of 4) that's $300 up front. $5 tickets get the whole family in for $20, then you can spend $20-$30 on concessions for everyone. What a wonderful family outing.

  10. High praise for Wil from Thierry Henry after the Crew defeated the NY Red Bulls yesterday. “Wil Trapp was outstanding today,” Henry said. “I know (Federico) Higuain usually gets all the (credit), their striker will get (some too) I’m sure because he scored two goals, and (Ethan) Finlay wasn’t bad either, but Wil Trapp is the key of that team. “Today, he was giving the tempo of the team, bringing the ball out from the back, Higuain doesn’t have to drop and get the ball, he will get it in a good position because Wil Trapp does his job. Difficult to stop. He has, hopefully for him, a good future. As Americans, you should be happy. “Today I thought he was the difference.”
