  1. All I would like to say is we have a great group of young men that are hungry and ready to play I know my son is and the young men that come to the house are to and I plan on attending all the games I can to cheer them on and the more fans that attend the better for the boys

  2. Exactly. If cutting baseball is the cost for us to compete in football and basketball then I am all for it. If other MAC schools dont follow it definitely gives us a recruiting advantage.

  3. FTR, I have never met George on a face-to-face basis, but have interacted with him on numerous occasions over more than a twenty-year period. George worked in the athletic department as an undergrad when the UA men's bb team first tripped to my state in the early 1990s, and from that time on I have found his overall interest and ability in working with alums thousands of miles away to have been far beyond what might have been expected -- especially in comparison to certain other AD employees who simply couldn't care enough to even return an inquiry. I hope that he will stay at the UA, because frankly he does a great job at what he's doing right now, and that is terribly important to the institution. Universities like the U of A need alumni and leaders like George van Horn. And, right now, I think the selection committee made a great choice. I look forward to Mr Williams' numerous national connections creating an upgrade to many sports programs in the coming years. Welcome aboard, Larry!

  5. Nothing to do with being pessimistic or not supporting the team - all Zips teams deserve support, but simply an observation of where the Zips currently are. And since you mentioned it, Ken Lolla was a reasonably good recruiter and the closest he ever got was the Elite Eight (still really good but 3 very hard wins short of a title - being ranked #1 and finishing #1 are two very different things). Caleb was a phenomenal recruiter and had great recruiting classes every year and you always felt they had a chance to win a championship (right with the power teams of the sport). This Zips team is still going to be very good, but if they do the same, they probably will have over achieved (and that would be great).

  6. This whole cadet thing just seems very weird. And the idea that we need to further coerce people and make sporting attendance mandatory is pathetic. At this point why don't we just march prisoners from Summit county jail into the stadium at gunpoint?

  9. We probably wouldn't all agree on which ZipsNation forum members are troublemakers, and we certainly don't know how often various forum members have been picked up by the police, let alone what they've gotten away with without getting caught by the police.

  10. I think someone previously posted that the $700k saved by eliminating baseball was going to be reallocated within the athletics department. This may be that reallocation. If UA had kept baseball the athletics budget would have been going up at a time when other areas were being cut.

  11. The stores are losing money, adding to UA's debt. Universities shouldn't be distracted by trying to be successful in the fickle retail business. If there's a good business case for stores like that in downtown Akron, other retailers will move in to fill the void.

  12. Pau Belana needed to pass some sort of entrance/transfer exam this week. Something like that. We hope to see him Saturday. He is a presumptive starter.
