  1. Really, having the first game be against an FCS team is great. Sit out anybody that's banged up from camp.

  2. I don't know if anyone caught it, but SiriusXM has been doing their "camp tour". In the Alabama installment they talked to Gehrig Dieter. Great interview. One of the things they talked about was the transition to the simple 20 play, no playbook offense of Dino Babers to the complex, multiple reads on every play, 200 page playbook of Lane Kiffin. If you can catch a replay, it's worth a listen.

  3. Update: Paxton Lynch completed 6 of 7 passes for 74 yards for 0 touchdowns and 0 interceptions and added 3 rushes for 5 yards. Connor Cook impressed, completed 7 of 11 passes for 71 yards, would’ve been even better if an offensive pass interference call hadn’t wiped out a long completion. I watched Dak Prescott go 10-12 for 139 yards and two touchdowns. I thought he looked great. He finished with a 154.5 QB rating. If your watching HBO's Hard Knocks you know Jared Goff has a hard time figuring out where the sun rises and sets. Here is a Goff evaluation on his rough start. Carson Wentz started off with an injury. Cardale Jones went 11 of 21 for 162 yards and a quarterback rating of 93.8. He also rushed four times for 34 yards. No tweets about the Zips after. After Cody Kessler figured out GB's odd end zone markings, he went 2-2 for 15 yards and a TD.

  4. When I posted this last night, it was late so I did not make any comments. One thing that I do not like about All American teams.....is that they always tend to pick attacking midfielders and they ignore the holding midfielders. They also tend to pick right and left defensive backs rather than choosing center backs. If they picked an All american team with 2 holding midfielders on each team and 2 attacking midfielders, then Akron would have had a 2nd pre-season all American as Victor Souto is clearly one of the 6 best holding midfielders in college soccer. The Center Def. backs and Holding midfielders are vital to a winning team and this year's Akron team will have 4 very good starters in Brad Ruhaak, Danilo Radjen, Victor Souto and Jesus Perez/Goncalo Soares/Pau Belana (I am making the assumption that one of those 3 will be the starter opposite Vic).

  7. I'm not at liberty to disclose it if Bowden himself hasn't. It is nothing too serious and while he might sit out VMI, he would probably play if Wisc was the first game. He won't practice until the Wednesday before VMI and then go from there. I will say that throughout camp there have been at least 10 different NFL teams there to watch him. A few teams showed up the practice after he got hurt and just left when they saw he wasn't practicing. Apparently in the NFL scouting circles he is absolutely blowing up, hopefully he can get/stay healthy.

  8. one thing that I have to mention about this great group of seniors....5 of the 6 last December.....were named to the academic all MAC teams. Of the 5, two had 3.69 GPAS, one had 3.73 in a very tough major (mechanical engrg) and one had 3.83 (and English is not this very smart young man's first language) and the great Tyler Sanda had a 3.93 GPA in biology. These young men are truly student athletes....that bring great pride to the University of Akron.

  10. Don't buy this beer. I have 5 of them left in my refrigerator and don't know how I will suffer through them. Squeeze watermelon rind juice in a Fat Tire and you'll get an idea of what this nasty swill is all about.
