  2. You’re absolutely right about that. We have and have had a lot of great student athletes who are and have been proud to be Zips! Stupid UA leadership that can’t give Clayton Murphy the time of day is disgusting. He cares enough to try to find a way to restore a team of which he is proud without cost to the university and they don’t even want to talk with him. A number of our former soccer players who are playing with their MLS teams in Orlando have been nice enough to respond to my DMs through Instagram and Twitter because they appreciate what they had at Akron and that an Akron fan Still follows and supports them. I’m not as close to UA football or basketball but I’m sure some of you have similar stories.

  3. D1 Football at other than Power 5 conferences has been dying for years. Schools are digging holes they cannot afford and getting worse. 178 positions to be eliminated but not the 2 at the top of the Ath Dept,? And the new Prez wonders why folks would call for the BOT rubber stampers to resign.

  4. Many players have contracted the virus. I don't believe any have "suffered" more than they would with the common flu. Lets be clear here. Akron football and many other football programs operate at a loss. The majority of the program funding comes from regulars students who pay tuition. I don't have a problem with it because I love athletics, but have no money (profit) to gain by playing football.. Even the Big 10 schools are going to lose a crap ton of money by playing. Wisconsin is projecting a 60-70mm loss if only conference games are played. College football gives many students a chance to get an education for free when they otherwise wouldn't and even become pro and change their family fortunes for generations to come. Enough with the "sacrificing athletes for money" bs. Many like to try to speak for the players when in reality they have no idea what they want. If given the choice to keep your scholly and enhance chances to go pro and play the game you love vs minor chance of contracting a virus with an incredibly minimal chance of causing death for somebody in that age range, I know what I'd pick.

  5. OTOH all the Zips “fans” who want to see the football program killed, despite the consequences, will probably get their wish. At least this year.

  6. So let’s say we cut football, or drop it into Tiffin’s league. We lose the ESPNU Tuesday night payday. We lose the annual 7 digit away games against P5. We lose attendance (if that’s even possible). We eventually cut scholarships which actually cost what? I’m assuming the radio coverage is zero cost/income. We still have the Dialer. Which from everything I have heard cost less than renovating/reconstructing the Rubber Bowl. And basketball and soccer become independent or also drop. More programs are cut, since FBS football covers itself and a big chunk of the rest of the athletic department budget. I’m not saying the University won’t drop football. I don’t have a lot of faith in “management” making any competent decisions. I just don’t see the huge cost savings that a few keep preaching about...

  7. Unfortunately the University can't auction off Infocision and its burden. Also unfortunately, numerous UofA administrations have 'kicked this same can down the road' for years and years and years. The pandemic simply forced this administration to finally have to make decisions that should have been made decades ago. Proenza knew the situation of the Athletic Department in particular and the the University in general when he was in charge. Subsequent administrations have passed it on...until now. Should athletics be more drastically downsized? Should football be played at a lower level if at all? Your response depends on your personal opinion toward athletics at this level. Personally, I hope football doesn't completely go away. But at whatever level Akron plays football I will watch. But, its obvious that its time to pick up this can and finally throw it in the trash.

  8. Ah yes the "child" attack used against anyone who possibly knows more than you about a topic. My uncle who barely got his GED loves to use that one. But seriously bro...you can do better. MAKE AKRON GREAT AGAIN, and stop making Akron look like HillTop High with your brilliant takes. And you weren't commenting like a child with your comment that doesn't even qualify as futilely stupid? Please. PLEEEEASE take your juvenile level hypocrisy elsewhere. And no I came on here to read everyone's take on UA making the "task-force" and saw uninformed comments being made about SARS-CoV-2. Misinformed ignorant comments made about a global pandemic, must be addressed. If you don't want to be dogged on and having more informed people calling you out for them than don't make the misinformed comments in the first place. Good job editing out the rest of the comment though.... I'd be happy to direct you to resources for you to read, hell some of them you can even listen do, if you would like.

  10. Thanks @TennZip With the return of EPL, then MLS, and now USL, I've been enjoying seeing our former Zips in action. With the financial situation at UA, I haven't been on the board too much. It's too depressing. I feel bad for the staff losing their jobs and for the athletes losing their Zips teams and the support they deserve. The people who should be losing their jobs are the ones who have failed and continue to fail to lead UA's academic programs as well as athletics. For example, the Navy invested in a one-of-a kind corrosion engineering program at UA, about which I hear nothing. What is happening with that program. How about other STEM-type programs...Is UA winning its share of work under various government and other R&D solicitations? As far as athletics, where's the marketing? I suggested some time ago that UA needs to offer customization of the apparel it sells. Is it really that difficult to that in this day and age of internet business. I notice on this board that various fans seem to have their favorite UA logo...the Z, the ARoo, the kangaroo, the moving A...Can't UA make it possible to buy apparel with your favorite UA-licensed logo. And why not make it possible for any fan to buy some of the special apparel given away to donors that give certain amounts...free to certain level donors, but charge otherwise. Are UA''s "big" donors that petty that they would prefer to have exclusive apparel that would still get free, but hat UA could sell to others and boost the bottom-line. I hope our current Zips are well and that our international players are able to return to campus. Out of respect for all of them, I've not tried to go by campus and see if there's any conditioning, etc. going. I'd love to see them, but even though I don't have any health issues oh which I'm aware, I won't take a chance of carrying anything of which I may not be aware to our coaches, staff, and players.
