  1. The #1 most accurate bracketologist over the last 4 years currently has Akron as a #13 seed and facing Texas A&M. The good news is many of the teams seeded near them like Yale, Iona, Northern Iowa, and UNC Wilmington can no longer build on their resume and teams like Chattanooga, Ark-Little Rock Akron should be able to gain on and perhaps pass. http://assemblycall.com/bracketology/
  2. I became a cord cutter last month as I got tired of my bill constantly rising despite not getting any new content. I guess I won't be watching Thursday or Friday.
  3. Fair enough. It still doesn't change my opinion. A 7 loss team from the 20th ranked conference that barely has a top 200 SOS should not make the tournament unless they receive their conferences auto-bid. You might say it isn't fair to penalize them for what conference they play in, but by letting them in over other mid majors that have similar records, but got stuck playing a vastly more grueling conference schedule (and schedule overall) would be equally, if not more, unfair. Why should Akron have to play the same difficulty OOC schedule then get stuck playing a vastly more difficult conference schedule?
  4. Anyone know what TV station the game will be on? I'll be stuck at work unfortunately, but plan to head to a local sports bar during lunch assuming that the game is on a tv channel that is common for bars to carry.
  5. Let's not forget that we beat the same team by 14 on a neutral court that they loss to twice, once at home and once on a neutral court.
  6. Differences of opinion, but I don't feel Miami looks like a typical 11 seed team. They got off to a horrendous start, but finished strong. In the last 2 weeks alone they had wins over the #1, #3, #5, and #6 seeded MAC teams. Lone loss was by 1 possession to #2 team.
  7. I'd rather play EMU over Miami TBH. Miami is playing really good basketball right now winners of 4 out of their last 5. Only loss was by 1 possession to #2 seed OU.
  8. They are probably in...for now, but there are plenty of bubble teams that have opportunities to make statements in the coming days. 1 of those 2 RPI top 50 wins is against USC who has lost 6 out of last 8 and has an RPI of 43. They will easily fall out of top 50 with another loss. They need to cheer for Notre Dame and USC to do well and for chalk in the remaining games. You have to expect some team(s) that are borderline bubble will put together a decent run and steal a spot. Edit: 16 of their wins came against teams with RPIs 200 or greater. Their conference schedule killed them.
  9. They are a 7 loss team with a 199th ranked SOS. If Akron isn't a at-large contender, which they aren't, with 7 losses and a 129 SOS then Monmouth certainly isn't. There are plenty of other at-large teams that have more than 4 RPI top 100 wins. Edit: 3 of their losses were to teams that had RPIs in the 200s
  10. Miami doesn't look like your typical 11th seed. You can tell they have improved greatly since the beginning of the season. They finished the regular season by winning 3 of their last 4 games. The teams they beat were Akron, Buffalo, and Kent who were all top 5 seeds. Their lone loss was to #2 seed OU.
  11. Got lost in the excitement lol. If SDSU and Ark-Little Rock both lose, I feel we have a chance of sneaking into an 11th. Like you said we need to take care of our business. It's just nice to see so many games break our way.
  12. Valpo and Monmouth losing are both good things for Akron. Valpo IMO is NIT bound. Monmouth might squeeze in as a 12 seed at-large. It will be close. Even if they do make the tournament it will hurt teams like OSU who are fighting for at-large bids, not us. Green Bay is now added to the tournament, which despite beating us earlier this season, I don't see them getting seeded above us. I mentioned earlier that for Akron to get a 12 seed they need to higher ranked than 18 auto bid teams. 2 new teams in Green Bay and Iona just got added to the field that will be seeded behind Akron.
  13. For being a smaller article I actually found it to be fairly informative. In regards to a new arena I feel it had to be assumed that the plans are squashed for now. He stated not to expect anything for another 5 years, but I feel unless the city passes a tax for a downtown arena at some point, which seems highly unlikely, or some big donor comes out of nowhere, we won't be seeing much on that front for 10-20 years when we start paying off some of those landscape for learning facilities. I'm curious as to what plans they have in store to better fill the stadium.
  14. I'm glad to see that Big Dog and Reggie weren't penalized for Akron having so much depth. It shows that the voters actually watched the games by choosing guys like Reggie and Big Dog. who help their team win. over guys that filled a stat sheet on mediocre teams that had little to no depth.
  15. I agree 100%. Likewise I'm not going to comment about what the teachers are requesting, but I will say that I feel the teachers hold the leverage as the last thing the University wants is more bad publicity.
  16. SB Nation published a similar article to this back in 2013 around the time the Zips were on their 19 game win streak. They did modify it to include recent events and to include that bit about Robotham. I still found it to be a good read.
  17. A 12 seed looks most likely if the Zips win out. They would almost certainly need Monmouth, Valpo, and SDSU to all lose to get an 11th. They might be able to leap Ark-Little Rock as Ark-Little Rock will face at most 1 RPI top 150 team in their conference tournament, but they are better off hoping for them to lose as well.
  18. You're looking at the Lunardi's February 22 bracket. Its been updated multiple times since. Below is the March 7th version, It has us facing Kentucky round 1. A lot is still going to change between now and then. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology/_/iteration/251
  19. +1 this guy gets it. We should also be cheering against Chattanooga & Stony Brook tonight. Akron is probably ahead of both teams if seeding was done today, but them losing eliminates all doubt.
  20. It's a tad disappointing that it took this late into the season for Akron to sell out its 1st game when they play such an exciting brand of basketball and have been successful at home.
  21. It certainly doesn't hurt. In the bracketology that I've looked at they are still seeded ahead of us, but the Zips will have a far better SOS the rest of the way no matter who the Zips meet up with in the MAC tourney. Perhaps the gap between the 2 resumes have narrowed enough that the Zips could be in a position to leap them.
  22. Akron is a combined 17-0 at home and on neutral courts. Every loss came on the road where our opponent was able to feed off the energy provided by their fans.
  23. The big thing that I noticed on how Kent guards us compared to other teams is that Kent is content letting Big Dog back his man down and get shots near the rim while most other teams have sent help defense to force Big Dog to pass which has led to open looks from 3.
  24. I feel 1 fewer regular season loss combined with a MAC championship loss would have made us the highest RPI team to get left out of the tourney. 2 fewer and I feel we could be an at-large team. I missed the NIU loss so I can't speak to that, but the game I wish we could have back was the Green Bay game. It was the 3rd and final game of a 6 day road trip. We didn't look 100% there and still almost came away with the win.
