Maybe at one point, but I'm pretty sure we intentionally gave them FTs in a one score game with adequate time left to get a shot off after their possession.

It's a pretty slow, rainy day when we are reliving an EMU game from 3 years ago.  But that game is seared into my memory.  A friend from work was at that game and I mentioned that to her (when I asked if she was going this Friday) and she's like "how do you remember that?"  Channel crashed hard on the floor fighting off the last shot.  Rob Murphy stormed onto the floor.  A number of people around me had left.

Of course, if we are really desperate we can discuss the Guard with Braids and the 2018 MAC quarterfinal v EMU.

Thank you for the correction. I thought I saw a graphic earlier in the broadcast showing BG was undefeated, but I was wrong. That Kent meltdown was an awful lot of fun to watch!

I picked it up during overtime...which took FOREVER.  the women's game is so odd, especially with the gamesmanship on the timeouts.  I'm tempted to watch a replay of the Toledo/NIU game (well, just the 4th quarter) just to watch the Toledo coach's head explode as they blow a 17 point lead.

I got into a little back and forth with another Zips fan at the end of that game. If my memory is correct, Groce was fouling when he didn't need to (it was still a 1 possession game with appropriate time left). Didn't make sense to me and still doesn't, but it worked out. Sweet watching X hit that game winner.

Didn't the Zips have fouls to give?

Harney won with a floater in the dying seconds in Akron's first ever trip to the Stroh Center, I believe a game after BG beat Groce's Sweet 16 Bobcats in the same building. Kent Roosevelt's Cameron Black tried to draw a charge (could have been called) but Harney drained a tough shot that nobody on this current roster could hit. BJ Gladden grabbed a clutch offensive rebound and put it in, a great call by Steve French that night. There are videos somewhere on the InterGoogle of both of those moments. In 2017 amid the Dambrot collapse, he lost at BG for the first and only time on a couple late FTs, that was a 9:00pm Tuesday tip. In a close game, BG's guard drove to the basket with no plan other than to slam into Big Dog and get a foul call, and he did. In 2018, Sina Gbadebo hit I believe his only 3 of the year in the first half, and Utomi came in the clutch, and Jimond Ivey hit a late bucket to win that one. A year later, Turner won it late for the Falcons. Lots of fun ballgames in that building, usually in favor of the Zips.

One of the best Akron teams ever got blown out there in 2020. Tyler Cheese fouled out and was later suspended for the game at Buffalo for nudging a ref. I thought that team was collapsing, and I remember texting my friends that night about how I was glad we had the nice run but would settle to the 2 seed. Little did anyone know, the following 3 incredible games would help that team go down as champions. Beating Buffalo, OU, and Kent consecutively to be alone at the top was so sweet, it softened the blow of not getting to see them play in a tournament, just a little bit.

BG was in first place that year by a few games going into the final weeks and then collapsed.  Zips had OU in that first game in Cleveland...that wasn't a gimme.

Right, after Cheese incident, Zips went to Buffalo and won easily.  I also remember Groce being ejected in Buffalo his first season?

  5. Haven't there been a number of close games at BG over the years.  Gladden had a tip in to win and didn't Harney do the same.  2 total bricks from that BG player..

F'in Akron....I get so, so tired of losing to them. They have simply owned BG for two decades now. BG is just 5-34 since 2005 vs Akron! That is mind blowing! I never thought we'd see a conference foe dominate us like that. That kind of record is what you'd expect to be vs teams in the Top-25, not vs a fellow MAC member. SMH...

Outstanding win. X playing was a surprise to me, but very much a welcome one. We had X1.0, this is X2.0. Who will be X3.0? We need to keep recruiting X's.

This team can do it. Groce teams can always do it.

I wasn't joking when I wrote that in crunch time you want Groce coaching your team and not Huger.

I don't feel people are being as much negative as they are being realist. Groce would be the first to tell you that this team as of right now isn't ready to win in Cleveland and that they need to focus on continuing improving that way they can be playing their best basketball come March.

If anything, I feel this board is a little overly optimistic that Groce will have the ship righted by March because that's what we're so accustomed seeing out of him. I don't know how any objective person could have watched the Zips the first 15 games of the season and be thinking to themselves right now that the Zips are the team to beat in the MAC right now.

Yes, a few on here are (as I like to say) whistling past the graveyard:

"To attempt to stay cheerful in a dire situation; to proceed with a task, ignoring an upcoming hazard, hoping for a good outcome."

I don't think Kent is a Buffalo of a few years ago, but they do look the best in the MAC given the ~17 game sample size we've seen. I think they will go 15-3 in the MAC with the second place team (whoever that is) going 13-5 or 12-6.

    Toledo went 17-3 last year..

Ball State’s panties are in a bunch. You aren’t playing Toledo tonight fellas! We like to play defense.

Tacky Toledo ran up the score on Western.

IDK but this feels like the UCLA game and not because of BSU's coach.  Feels like Zips are treading water.
