Much better tonight. They weathered the storm of their worst start of the year to rally and dominate. CMU is pretty bad, but the Zips deserve a ton of credit. They were tough and took a lot of punches early. CMU was physical but Akron didn’t back down. Camp was superb running the show. Keep it rolling, Go Zips!

So Zips are about #4 after Code Red, Toledo, and BG?  The manner they lost to BG was bad but understandable loss I guess.

Nate Johnson was a third contributor tonight with a 3 at the buzzer and some nice plays.  I think he had a bad turnover when he had a behind the back dribble in traffic that was a turnover.  Tavari had a great pass to Tribble for a fantastic dunk that will make the highlight reel.

That dunk is on Zips Instagram along with the chest bump.   Whoever does social media for Akron loves Tribble.

Not the same thread , but , W. Mich and Ball St tied at 68, with 1' 04" left in Muncie

yes.  watching now.  coming down to last shot.  yuck.  and with 17 seconds and the ball WMU works the clock down and settles for a Brian Walsh style jump shot...with the same result.

Carry's scoring and efficiency numbers are down compared to last year. That said, if gun was to the head and I had to predict who would win MAC POY, I'd still guess Carry. The reason being POY is as much a team award as it is a player one and Kent (despite some posters here being in denial) are going to be heavy favorites to win the MAC regular season.

Would rather Freeman be the tournament MVP!

If stats matter then John Groce should send a bouquet of flowers to Stan Heath.

I think stats matter apart from "scoring margin."  Good to know who is a bad FT shooting team...EMU is good from the line.  And Freeman's been consistently at the top for the first 4 games.

  6. WMU was scary in that 2nd half but maybe it was the BG defense?  CMU lucked into Cleveland last year and came within a point of knocking out Toledo.  They have a good coach.  He's no Stan Heath.  This will be a brutal week for the Zips.  Buffalo is a shadow of its former self.  They still offensive rebound like crazy but didn't see much else going for them.

Very fair! Woke up this morning still thinking about how pathetic that team was. After the game Emoni's brother and Dad hopped into the HANDSHAKE LINE! They have totally ruined that program. PATHETIC display of coaching from Heath

Who was primarily responsible for guarding Bates?

Groce was ALL ABOUT Tribble on the post-game show.  Clearly, the coach's favorite.  Tribble and Hankerson.  From ABJ:

Tribble reaching double figures was of particular note considering his defensive responsibilities. At different points this season, he's learned and then played every position except center, and he's often been tasked with guarding the opponent's best scorer.

"The dude is just a stud in terms of intelligence," Groce said. "If you needed him to play center he could do it, probably. … He's just so versatile both defensively and offensively, and is willing to sacrifice for the team. I have great appreciation for Greg."
