Yes, a number of eggs were laid early; but does that mean nothing can be done about the attendances from students? This team also beat Xavier, Creighton, VCU, Butler, Wright State and Villanova at home scoring 3+ goals in 5 games at Cub Cadet. This team has been rolling so the positives have far out weighed the negatives at home. Ultimately the marketing department has been useless for a number of years now, but especially this past year. When I was a student you would see a promotion stand in the student union and signs on the grass saying game day. Are they still happening? Anyway, there’s a game tomorrow and the zips need to win!

Hopefully the new AD cares more about soccer. -

Truly delighted that everybody went home happy, due to all the subs made. 🤪 Great win! -

Your critique was not seeing enough subs 😆😆😆 So you’d rather see subs over winning? We watch sport for different reasons then. For many weeks, you’ve been Criticizing Embick potentially asking for a new coach and now after some better results and performances, you want to see more subs. 😅 Buebendorf didn’t have cleats on at the game so my guess is he’s injured. 👍 -

Some of the timers In here still upset even now we are winning? 😂 Some of you should save your health and stay at home. ZI…………PS. -
Zips played well yesterday. Controlled most of the game that they were able to. Played aggressively in attack and defense and very unfortunately not to win. The positives were simple - Clapier looked like he wanted to score, Gaulmin looks like a stud we need and Malik was dangerous all game from D. The negatives - seems like Akron got some injuries on the day. Camera work was bad but Ashton off injured and Guardiero off injured also (who had a fine debut). The referees though... 🥲 Their pk was trash. Not a pk call in any game. The goal not called for a 'foul' on WMU defender was very bad. And it overall seemed like WMU got more calls than we did as usual. We move onto Monday. Zips will get us all the win we need!

The “adversity” you think I am using as an excuse has never been an issue until recent times. You keep bringing up our assistant coaches as an issue. Even Ken Lolla era had a far greater size of staff. They are facts. Not excuses. I also find it a bit strange that you say you don’t know who I am. This is a message board. -

Entitled to your opinion. Personally, I’ve never judged my thoughts on an assistant based on his/her people skills. I feel as a fan that is irrelevant. What sort of a relationship with the staff are you wanting? Did you have a better relationship with TJ and Leo therefore you value them higher than the current assistants? As previously stated, you mentioned TJ and Leo having more experience, people skills, intangibles etc yet both have struggled since they left UA with one struggling to even get a job! -

Leo failed to get a college soccer job between fired in 2018 and spring 2024. TJ has been part of a vastly underachieving Michigan State staff. I feel you’ve left a lot unsaid in your above post. -

Marshall has been on international trips and are playing national stature teams. I’m not sure your choice of Marshall is a good comparison. Their head coach just signed a 10 year contract extension. Marshall are investing extraordinarily in Men’s soccer. Some would say similar to UA did in Porters era. Their head coach makes $500k with his new contract. You have kind of caught up With the common sense logic I was implying to suggesting Zips are not keeping pace with the serious market. There are MSOC teams all over USA getting NIL. AFAIK, basketball is our only NIL sport. To suggest we should mimic Marshall though… 😬 -

Well from a men’s soccer perspective, the staff is an obvious one. That is what is seen at a game. From a schedule standpoint, the Zips used to play Seattle/Washington, UCSB and Denver for RPI reasons I presume. These games aren’t happening now. Why do you think that is not happening anymore? The 2016 (?) Zips went on an international trip to Brazil which the supporters were aware of a long time before it happened. Is this happening again? I heard an Ohio state fan at our game speak about her son going on a team trip to the UK. -

Unlike you, I have common sense. 3 on staff now, 4 on staff for College Cup runs. Pretty obvious. -

A different and bigger staff you should add. The strangle on not just soccer but other sports on campus from the powers above is taking its toll. -

Also quoting a preseason poll is stupid. Zips were picked top of Big East. So it cant be one way for one (meaning zips are bad but picked first) and one way for the other (OSU picked in 6th). -

Based on the above quote, you suggest the players were more at fault that the staff despite being on bigsoccer and up quoting an Embick on the hot seat post. Embick has won many things at the Zips. I would be close to suggesting big players - Clapier, Malik, Buechte all very very bad last night. -

Bad night for our Zips last night. Not many played at the Akron Soccer expected level. While being a big crowd it was very quiet, but the team didn’t give us much to cheer from the very beginning. From a great performance in ND where the zips should have won, to that last night is a crazy drop off. The team looked tired. Unlike many of you it seems, I think this team will score goals. #9 looked promising both games. The team has to win at Kalamazoo. Four points from tough opening 3 games would be respectable. Most, me included expected the win to come from the home game. -
A former administrator told me he got fired but would not say for what.

Interesting press release. Looks like Coach Chappel has convinced people he was on staff for the 2018 conference title and tournament run when he was no longer part of the coaching staff then.

Everybody should be excited for the Spring League. I didn’t get to any games the last time Akron entered it, but I would assume playing meaningful games is better than playing semi pro/pro USL teams for the athletes. I am excited to see more of Reilly and Dreas with Borneo and new guys also coming in. I can only assume by the “makes changes” you mean to the athletes themselves? Moving student athletes on isn’t quite as simple as that. To move Joey Paulus, Will Jackson and Sammy Tojaga “on” is not quite that easy. Those guys love Akron Soccer. From a coaches perspective, I would assume they were in the line up for those very reasons. To suggest coaches were wrong for choosing them is pathetic. However, you have managed to go 2 months without just ridiculing the staff but you can’t see to post without helping yourself. Have you ever spoken with the staff about their ideas, plans and recruitment? I have not spoken with coach Embick personally, but I would assume his door with open for conversations. My guess is you will hide behind the computer screen. To say you trust the coaching staff is just a lie. You Havnt said a positive thing about them in a long time. Check your posts.

It looks like Jason Shokalook is taking his professional deal a year early with Chicago Fire. I have been made aware that Malik Henry and Dyson Clapier will return and play their senior seasons with the zips.

With regards the Zips SOS and conference realignment, one has to suggest that it was the uncertainty of the BigEast that stopped our Zips playing Pitt and Michigan State like we have in the past. It's not like Embick has been afraid to play the tough teams in the past. I would assume Northern Kentucky will be replaced with Ohio State or Michigan State on next years schedule. Any team who lose 6-0 isnt the top 32 teams in any country. Pitt lost 6-0 to ND. Anybody can look at a strength of schedule (SOS) and see that Pitt SOS was not number 1. Half of their six wins were against Fairleigh Dickenson (95rpi), Howard (201rpi) and Duquesne (101rpi). They also lost 1st round of their conference tournament at home. So essentially we are validating their acceptance in the tournament based on playing good teams and losing?
-
So very disappointed this years Zips were overlooked. I thought we would be in the tournament ahead of some others. The reasoning for Kentucky and Pitt getting in at .500 would be interesting to know. How good can a team really be winning 6 games (Pitt)? I believe that if Clapier and Malik were not injured for the end of the season, it would all be different. This Zips team were killing it when fully healthy in August/September. And lets be very clear about this.... VERY GOOD TEAMS came to Cub Cadet and got a good beating. Notre Dame didnt get near our goal and are a #4 seed. Crazy. With regards Coach Embick future, he is safe. No question he is the right man for the job. This is a coach who has had opportunities to leave for the pros. We cannot let him go anywhere else!
