Pitt at #16 Akron - 2022 NCAA Tourney Round 2
YipaZip replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Actually you are far more of an embarrassing “fan” as anyone or anything in the high caliber program we get to watch. Have you said a good word about the team all season? The fact you don’t care about the bad officiating says it all about you. You don’t care. You come on here looking to antagonize people. Have you ever spoken with Jared about his so called bad behavior? Or coach Coppinger or Nanchoff? I bet you would not have the stones to call them out in person. You are that kind of “fan” who hides, yet still shows up to each game. Pathetic. Today is a hard day to be a zip, but we have a young team and this team is ready to win in the future. -
MAC Tourney Championship Game - Nov 12 v WMU
YipaZip replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Firstly, Western Michigan deserved their win today. No doubt. Today we didn't have enough of our big players perform well enough to win the game. The midfield was not near the level we need to go on a run. Tojaga (who I have liked a lot since 2018) was slow and Buechte was avoiding the ball. I dont think we went to a 3 back @fknbuflobo. I believe Malik Henry just had more freedom to get even more up the field after we were chasing the goal deficit. Zips played faster when a goal down. A few questionable officiating calls in the game. I rewatched the ESPN to see why the corner kick goal was called back and it seems a questionable call. Shokalook red card started with #5 pushing him into his own player. Then the scuffle was nothing really. Each player involved pushed somebody at some point. There was also a potential pk call early in the 2nd half for hand ball. With the officiating being so poor, I hope it changes in our new conference. No doubt WMU deserved their win, but a lot of things didnt go Zips way today. Lets all hope that Mondays draw is good to us. -
That’s not entirely true. From what I have heard, we play the team who finishes the same position in the south that we finish on our side. For example, we win the league, we play the south winner. If we finish 2nd, we play the 2nd team. Etc.

Yes. Egbo is way more skilled.

You are right. In that case, I choose Egbo.

Northern Illinois Home game - Saturday November 2nd
YipaZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Unbelievable game. Played awesome all game and could not score the goal in which we needed.... and then 3 came at once. That was the best I've seen Egbo play. With regards tie breaker, I believe based on what has happened previously on the womens side, we should host as #1 seed. -
I cannot believe there are people who think that the CSU game was the teams priority in this season. It was a non runner, shown by the team in which Embick chose to play. No Ritaccio, No Pachecco, No Tojaga, No Egbo - no chance. Someone even suggested to me that the previous game, Egbo and Tojaga both got a yellow card on purpose to miss the appropriate game. ?

An at large bid is out of the question but winning the MaC tournament can still get us in. Disappointing result last night but the overall play was closer to what we expect from this team. Defensively, Ritaccio and Milanese were excellent throughout. Without Egbo, Jackson and Pachecco, the attackers were always going to be limited for this game. Having said that, we had opportunities to with with (Tojaga?) head ball from corner kick and Skye Harter opportunity around the goalkeeper. Does anyone know what is wrong with Jackson? Egbo I believe got concussion last game, at least that’s what was implied when he went off injured. To finish on a positive, it was fantastic to see Skye back in the team. -
Have you seen Caleb Porters teams play in recent years in the MLS? They are a long way from his team in his college days at Akron in terms of playing style. Embick himself said so in an interview with TDS last year. Caleb could have nothing to say about our style on that night.

You just cannot please some people. It was a game of total domination from start to finish. If “several unnecessary long balls” bothered you, than stop watching soccer. They happen in every team at all levels of the game. It was only only the last thread people were complaining about too many passes in our defensive side of the field ?
-
With all that being said, you’ve still not enlightened us as to what you hope to achieve by boo-ing the team?
-
Comparing the 2010 team to this team is like comparing apples to oranges. That team had six (maybe seven?) US national team recruits in its team. None of those level of players are playing college soccer now. Akron has starting recruiting some local high school players as well as regular non academy club players in recent years that I have coached against which I do not believe should be in contention to be a Zips soccer players. In 2009 & 2010, the recruiting classes were national team players left and right. This team only has Ritaccio with that on his resume. Comparing Henrique Cruz to Wil Trapp or Perry Kitchen is not realistic. Perry Kitchen is not attending college to play college soccer if he is in the 2020 recruiting class.

We feel totally different about what being a fan of a sports team is. TOTALLY different. You think because you pay money to attend a game, you can "demonstrate displeasure" towards the team you so called support. I completely disagree. A true supporter sticks it out until the end. Shows SUPPORT to its players by having presence throughout the game. What do you hope to achieve by opening boo-ing this team? What do you actually think the players think of this? 8 of the starting line up at Cornell were playing in a National Final 10 months ago. They are not bad players. I have personally seen them beat Wake, Stanford, Syracuse, Michigan State x2 and win a MAC tournament in West Virginia in the past year. Apart from Lundt, this team is stronger in all areas compared to last years team. I would love to know what "Repeated lame-assed slow hospital balls across one’s own goal mouth is truly appalling!" you're referring to? I truly believe you have made that up. We scored a multi pass goal against Marshall a week ago. It was Akron Soccer at its very finest.

Didn’t you leave early disgusted?

It seems to me like there are many of “us” who have given up on this team. We have to be positive for the team. Jared and staff did not become bad coaches over night. I am not a Cleveland native long but always been a college soccer fan. This team is talented. I, along with others, still believe in this team and staff. Seeing regular “fans” leave early on Saturday was appalling.

I saved my first Zips away game for this Final 4. What an amazing trip and Santa Barbara is an awesome place. On the games, I believe we got what we deserved with unfortunately was 2nd place. On Friday, Zips were incredible. From defense to attack, each player played their part. It was great to see 5 different goalscorers on the night. Everything we shot went in the goal. Excellent performances from our back line to contain a good forward in Sierakowski. He has hurt us in other games against MSU before. Many at the game were speaking of MSU goalkeeper being potential pro option for MLS clubs. Where does that leave Lundt if this is the case? Another note; did our staff lose a member? I noticed a younger guy dropping cones for warm ups at the MSU game. Anyone know who he is? I checked the website and nobody mentioned. In the final, our team underperformed. We looked bad defensively and the choice of Milanesse instead of Hernandez looked the wrong one from coach Embick. Interestingly enough, I felt it was the right choice every other game that it happened in the season. We cannot hold that against Embick. He and his staff have done a fantastic job to get this team this far. This is my first year REALLY being a fan of the zips, despite being a huge European soccer fan, and I am hooked. Nothing beats watching this Zips team live and in person. I leave Santa Barbara early tomorrow morning but I wish this journey was not over for these young men.

West Virginia - Saturday the 13th
YipaZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I am under the impression every team makes the MAC tournament this year. 3rd plays 6th at home. 4th plays 5th at home. Winners advance to tournament at site of the regular season champions. As for tonight, it was disappointing. This team is inconsistent. We seem to play much better on the road. I still believe in these players and coaches. -
Elite 8 - Friday night Dec. 1 - Akron at Louisville
YipaZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Your post is ridiculous. I think it is very clear to everyone that both players, coaches and staff were well worthy of their win on PK's this past weekend and for you to question their "wanting it more" is out of character. Get behind this team - don't question their effort. Their smiles on their faces Saturday night reassured me they want to win it as much as we want them to win it. Belana played out of his mind in midfield. Cannot ever question his desire. I would like to know when this team has "looked to referees after a bump"? Could maybe question that in the past with Nagbe and Richie Laryea but I do not feel this team is as soft as in the past. Bringing up Embick and Porter is same context is irrelevant. Porters Akron days are over. Embick is out of his shadow now. He has done EVERYTHING Porter did her except win that title. My hotel is booked for Philly until Monday and I expect this team to take the title home. -
That is the best you can come up with about the game?
