  1. Looks like we landed another!!
  2. Here's another.
  3. Whatever. I put very little reliance on those ratings of 17 and 18 year old kids. A lot can change after a couple of years....
  4. Proof will be in the pudding for the 2023 HS recruiting class. Let's move on to another topic.
  5. Yeah, it's not the portal. It's the extra year of eligibility from COVID that is causing the blip in HS recruiting this year. It will return to normal in 2023.
  6. You are correct if the 7 transfers you are referring to in your example count as initial scholarships. If the transfer is a junior, senior, or grad transfer, those do not count against the 25 initial scholarships allowed per year by NCAA FBS DIV1. If the 7 transfers you are referring to are all Juniors or above, you could still offer 25 initial scholarships in addition to offering the transfers as long as you stayed within the 85 limit.
  7. I agree with you on your assessment of Gibson and somewhat about Irons but I am not sure at this point we will need to bring in 4 mature offensive lineman. I do agree that bringing in a couple of experienced guys to compete at Tackle and/or provide depth with our current crew is advisable but these young players, from an eligibility perspective, some of which are Juniors, are now battle tested. With another year of strength training and coaching, they should be as good as any that you would get to come to Akron from the portal. Personally, I would be happy if we kept our new offensive line coach that replaced Coach Zagorski. In the short time since he has taken the reins, he has made several changes and the offensive line has really responded.
  8. Can't let this post go unchecked. WMU arguably has the best defensive line in the MAC. Fayad (#1) and Holley (#8) are 1st and 3rd, respectively in the MAC in sacks, both are seniors, and both will be playing on Sunday next year. Of course, WMU thought they could get pressure against our all freshman front but those boys played one hell of a game only allowing 1.5 sacks between those two monsters. I am not blaming Gibson for anything but those 20 pressures you mentioned and blamed on the OL is not a fair assessment. Those pressures could have been easily cut in half if Gibson would have just got rid of the ball quicker or ran when the pass option was not available. Do not get me wrong, the OL is not perfect but those dudes are coming together and getting better every game. I've also noticed that the OL is often left on an island with very little support from TE's or RB's. Not only do the players need to adjust to the flow of the game, but so do the coaches by calling plays that are condusive to the QB getting the ball out quicker or by keeping other players in to help block. Plays like screens and changing the snap count can help keep the opposition off balance and slow down the rush. This approach would also help with our rush attack. As we all know, football is the ultimate team sport and you can't just solely blame one positional unit for anything on offense or defense since often times there are multiple factors involved.
  9. Yes, you are exactly right. Line played fairly well. Gibson has to learn 2-3 seconds and if nothing is there....RUN! Overall, Gibson played well, just tried to do too much at times.
  10. LMFAO.....Keep telling yourself how great you are. No one else really cares.
  11. Your an idiot...is that proper enough for you?
  12. That's all you got? Don't waste the few brain cells you have left trying to figure out another reply. LAMEBRON is the biggest cry baby ever.....
  13. and you sir can keep on holding on to pipe dreams...I will comment back in a couple of years when you are calling for the next coach to be fired since he could not get the job done in 2 seasons either....It is going to take sticking with a guy for 5 years to change culture, attract players, and then win games. Good luck with your unrealistic expectations dude.....
  14. you did not see fight against Ball State....You must be blind!
  15. Totally agree with you. I my mind this is a sad day for Akron football cause it locks us in for another 2-3 years of rebuilding and being bottom dwellers in the MAC......
  16. I could not disagree more. I think you will see by the mass exodus of players how much of the culture Arth DID understand. As for his time given being a joke....come on. He endured a late start in 2019 and was brought in too late to have an impactful recruiting season and then in 2020, had to endure a global pandemic which caused major disruption in everyone's life so much that the NCAA did not count the year against player eligibility. Do you honestly think he was give ample time to turn around a program that was in a death spiral...get real. Hope all of you that wanted him fired are ready for at least 2-3 more years of irrelevance.
  17. why not reach to the heavens with Ed Orgeron??? Probably too much of a downgrade from a coaching perspective for him but who knows??
  18. I liked Arth and I do not think he was given enough opportunity to turn things around given that he was hired late in 2019 with suboptimal recruiting opportunities, and then had to endure a significant disruption with the COVID pandemic in 2020. So, for me the only real normal year he had in his 3 seasons was this year and I do think things were headed in the right direction even thought the record did not indicate it. On top of all that, Arth did bring in guys of high character as evidenced by the team GPA improvements which fit with Akron trying to rebrand itself in the STEM and business programs. Now all of that is water under the bridge and I guarantee a ton of players, especially the ones that are talented, will leave and we will have to start from scratch with the cupboard bare just like what happened when Arth took the job in 2019. As far as the timing being odd, I could not disagree more. If you are going to make the change, better to do it when the new head coach still has a chance to recruit for next year as all of Arth's recruits will probably not come here without an opportunity to speak with the new coaches or the offers will be rescinded altogether by the new coaching staff. My hope is that the AD had planned this all along and already has a new HC in the works. In addition, this give our current players an opportunity to enter the transfer portal and potentially find a home for the Spring semester if they choose to do so. If they were going to fire Arth, now is better than later for the new HC and for our current players.
  19. I am a in the trenches kind of guy and our OL played well tonight. They got the running game going and Gibson had time to throw the ball. Made all the difference on offense. Kudos to the young men up front for playing a hell of a good game tonight. As the game went on they gained confidence and it really showed.
  20. Correction, just rewatched the first half of OSU game and #63 is the right guard...
  21. We got one of those guys. Watch our left guard, #63, he was put in the starting rotation for the OSU game. He had like 8 pancakes in that game and has been running downfield looking to decleat someone every game. He has some kind of injury to his right hand and plays with a club. I think that kid is going to be an All-MAC player if we can keep him on the team. Can't wait to see what he can do when he gets the use of his hand back.
  22. Absolutely agree. I have also seen kids that never got rated for one reason or another and turn out to be a beast. That is why I never talk down about walk-ons since they often times have something to prove.
  23. I know what you meant but punishing the current starters won't accomplish anything. Do you honestly think these guys like losing? They want nothing more than to win but not for you or me or anyone else. They want to win for themselves. I for one will continue to support whomever the coaches feel gives this team the best shot to succeed. That's all we can do at this point.
  24. Nice thought but most of the starters at their respective positions are the ones that have been there the longest. Unfortunately, many are redshirt freshman. I guess we could put Kato and Fitschen on the OL since they have been there the longest. Lol.
  25. Not sure how you measure he is getting worse.....I can make the same argument that there are just as many or more coaches that have done the same or worse. In addition, none of us know how many players he has attempted to get from the portal but was unsuccessful. He has definitely got a few players from the portal just not as many as we all would like.
