For those (like me) that can't make it, the game will be on ESPN Plus. -

Still cheaper than ESPN Plus...but I don't see NIU streaming any Zips' Women's volleyball games ! -

Thanks for catching the error. I was looking at the WMU game time and thought it was the NIU game (damn old age!) -

It is 2pm CT which is 3pm in Akron. I think..not positive, though.. that going through the NIU all-access stream will be our only recourse for tv. Go to Northern Illinois Athletics, on to men's soccer and you should find a soccer schedule. There you will find a "watch" link that should take you to the game (in theory). -
Good catch on the corners... I think around 55 minute mark was the 1st of the night which validates Welker's observation that UM wasn't forcing anything in their offensive end until late in the game. BTW the play-by-play guy was David Bacon who does most of the Zips home games

I thought a big difference tonight was the Nits played that high defense..at least in first half..but their defenders were beat downfield repeatedly by the Zips transition attack which resulted in more quality shots on net. Props to Embick for a perfect tactic.

game 10 - Georgia Southern
Akron Rick replied to zipsrule's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I have an ESPN + subscription but ESPN3 is another channel. However last night I went to gozips.com/soccer where they list each game and link who if anyone is airing it. I hit the ESPN3 link they provided and voila! there it was. It was a weird defense Southern was playing as they were conceding possession by playing no press until the final 3rd of the field. Thus they had little chance to score. I'm sure Coach Embick didn't complain. -
At West Virginia - First MAC league match

Real team effort tonight. For those that didn't get to see it you can get an idea how many played well by how many different names were brought up in these posts. I would add Portman to that list. He seemed to be everywhere in that last 25-30 min. when you could see the legs getting heavy. -

For the first MAC game of the season this half has been tremendous. End to end action, noone giving any quarter, and the young Zips came to play! Now they must sustain the effort. -

Nice write-up, Tenn. I noticed their schedule is front-loaded with home games with 7 of the first 9 unfortunately inc.the Zips game. Then they have a no. of MAC away matches. If they can run that gauntlet they will deserve that high ranking and that "huge chip" will have served them well. Zips obviously need that 1st goal and it will be very difficult as WVU's keeper Tekesky has 5 clean sheets. Go Zips! -
I 'll admit I was one switching back-and-forth from futbol to football although I saw the whole 1st half . Although the Zips couldn't find the net I was reminded a bit about the "death by a 1000 passes" as they were dominating possession and were much more precise but again unlucky. Best chance came after only a few minutes of play when Shook found himself on the end of a Henry cross staring down the keeper but blasted it way over the bar. Didn't get to see the winner by DC but now it's back on the road where they need to play like home.

I must have confused them with their rival on the Charles River.
-
Lucky for us their best athletes are on crew and have no time for soccer.

"the Zips need to get back to death by 1,000 passes... possession soccer and spreading the field " I was thinking exactly this during the game... I wonder if Coach had that thought as well! -

Hoping these guys are able to jell before the MAC tourney. Right now they are a bunch of very talented players with little cohesiveness and their play is much more fluid on their own pitch. Typical of young teams. So I look for another Pitt/Indy type effort in Akron on Saturday vs. Yale and then they'll build on that effort. I believe there may be growing pains yet but they will jell. -
Have had the opportunity to meet both Coach Parry and Coach Porter. In fact attended the same church as Stu. They are two of the classiest people in the world not to mention being outstanding soccer coaches. Have not met Coach Embick to date but he's in a great coaching tree.

There SHOULD have been one awarded as Pacheco was laid out just inside the penalty area. Ref just said play on. But no calls and/or bad calls are to be expected, especially on the road. Bucks were pumped to deflect attention away from their crappy record with a top 10 upset and give them credit they got it done. Zips' younguns can hopefully grow from this by realizing it's a far different game when you're the hunted than when you're the hunter.

Halftime..OSU could easily be up 3-nil as they've dominated the last 15. Embick needs to give them the "Don't believe the press clippings" halftime speech.
-
Zips looking very lethargic...just went down 1-nil on an OSU corner that wasn't defended well.
-
no threats so far...feeling each other out

I think we may have a god basis for smack when referring to soccer. We'll see after tonight's action. As far as the football comments, I'm not poking that bear until around the 1st of October when the UAfb game is well in the rearview mirror. On B10+, I don't think they'll go to Akron to cover away games for their members. Best bet for tv would be ESPN + which doesn't currently list those games but as they get closer they may list them.

I'm new here and I'm certainly nothing more than a fan of Zips soccer , but from looking at Indy's roster these may be 3 players to watch Friday.... 1.Probably the guy most would know is Victor Bezerra, who has missed a few games this year but came back last match vs. Xavier. He scored 15 times last season and was Hermann Trophy runnerup. Trains with the Chicago Fire...not their club team, the actual Fire! Wears #7. 2. Forward Sam Sarver from Beachwood, Ohio scored the only goal of their last game as they beat X 1-0. He was rated #32 in U.S. last year by Top Drawer and is a freshman wearing #9. 3. Ben Yeagley is a midfielder and a redshirt junior. He is the son of the Hoosier coach Todd Yeagley and wears #20. Of course as the #1 team in the country they'll be throwing a lot more talent at the Zips than these three. My hope is by mentioning them by name I'll be jinxing at least three of their better players.

game 4 - last year College Cup team Pittsburgh
Akron Rick replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
My players of the game... 3. Malik Henry. Dude is FAST and made a great cross on Zips 1st score. Last night I hated the Canucks but tonight love ya Malik! 2.Ryan Kingsford. He's the player that seems to get stronger as the game goes on. Never slowed down tonight. 1. Will Meyer. Has improved so much since last year. Will and the Pitt keeper had a great time one-upping each other. -

Yeah what was the bone of contention at the game's end? I kinda thought Pitt's players were pissed the last few secs ran out with the ball out of play, but that's life on the road.
