Hopefully Chabi will be back before we make our stretch run + the MAC Tournament.
-
The Lyles-Mahaffey x2-Tavari-Shammah looked good today. Easily our best five IMO.
-
And bad coaching. Buffalo was up 3 with 12 seconds left and let Miami get two 3 point attempts. Should have fouled and put them on the line.
-
And both will have a lesser legacy at their respective schools for leaving.

Any idea when Gensler's contract runs through? He was a Guthrie hire, so Goodrich may be OK moving on soon if the program keeps moving in the wrong direction.
-
The comparison is that players in these situations can transfer and get a lot of money somewhere else, but then they lose out on their legacy at their previous school. Nate is getting life-changing money at Kansas State, but loses out on a legacy at Akron that may have ended with a jersey retirement one day and a chance to lead his team to a 3rd straight MAC Championship.
-
I have no ill feelings toward Nate going after life-changing money at K State, but I couldn't help but think of him when I read this quote today.

Am I wrong for thinking it isn't that crazy to think Miami could enter the MAC Tournament undefeated? vs Buffalo at Kent vs UMass vs NIU at Buffalo at Marshall vs Ohio at UMass vs BGSU at EMU at WMU vs Toledo at Ohio Not having to come to the JAR and only playing Kent once (although at Kent) gives them a favorable road to Cleveland.

21 points, 16 rebounds for Enrique last night 💪

I'm not sure if Freeman had other two-way contract offers last summer, but I am not sure Minnesota is the best fit for him. They've shuffled him back and forth between Minnesota and Iowa but haven't had him active for any games in Minnesota. With Iowa, his usage on offense seems lower than last year with the Mad Ants. Last night, he wasn't even in during crunch time in the last 4 minutes. I really wish he could go elsewhere where there may be more opportunity.

Completely outplayed in the 2nd half. Let's see if they can hang on.

I think they challenged themselves - Purdue, Yale, and Murray State are all projected to make the NCAA Tournament in the most recent bracketology on ESPN. Our problem dating back to the KD years has always been actually winning these games. I don't believe we have ever defeated a program in the Top 25. Our best non-conference wins were probably our NIT wins - Houston, Florida State, Temple.

I agree, and I think a starting lineup matters more than some believe. A team can absolutely set a tone early that dictates the rest of the game, and we saw our squad do that multiple times last season. I think Sharron performs better off the bench at this point in his career, too. Personally, I'd like to see more Stankovic and less Halligan. Nothing against Halligan, who plays really hard, but Oggy's ceiling is just so much higher. Evan Eric Lyles Scott Johnson Young Hardman MMK Stankovic Once Barre returns, he can take minutes back from Stankovic. But right now, I'd love for him to get more court time.
-
Right now, the primary issue for the Zips seems to be depth. Sharron Young and Bowen Hardman haven't shot the ball well this season. Eric Mahaffey started the season well but has been up-and-down since (as one would expect from him in his first year). Oggie has basically fallen out of the rotation. It doesn't sound like Barre is close to returning. It's basically Tavari, Shammah, and Amani, with Evan occasionally having a decent scoring game. For us to win the MAC and possibly get a win in March, we're going to need one or more of Young/Hardman/Ev. Mahaffey to get going with more consistency.

Where do you think Scott has regressed? His overall numbers show a slight improvement over last season. Or do you mean recently? I do think starting is important to some players. Maybe it shouldn't be and you're right about the minutes mattering most, but the reality is it can definitely play a role mentally. I think Young actually fits better off the bench right now, anyhow. I love his energy and he can serve as a bit of a change of pace. I don't think Halligan is long for the starting lineup, nor do I expect him to play more than 8-10 minutes a game once Barre is back. Speaking of Chabi, I would like to see him get a shot at starting once he is ready again. Lyles Ev. Mahaffey Barre Scott Johnson That's a pretty good mix of scoring and defense.

CMU had a 16 point lead against Toledo at home and lost by 3.
-
We will be fine, I am just more annoyed than anything else because that's a good team, but nobody we shouldn't have handled, and we don't get another shot at them at The JAR. They are probably a few easy MAC wins away from Top 25 discussion now.

Miami made an adjustment in the final minutes and basically took Tavari away, doubling him and forcing someone else to beat them. I would imagine our future opponents may take notice of that, too.
