Yup. We couldn't even score a single point against the powerhouse of Wyoming.
-
Because I love my Alma Mater. I'm a diehard for my alma mater, despite having degrees from two other universities (one incorporated into my name) that I could easily get more joy from following. Akron was my home for a decade+. But at some point you have to call out the bullshit. If we actually give-a-damn about something, at some point we have to call a spade a spade. The Football Program IS NOT GOOD for the University of Akron, it hasn't been a good investment, it will never be a good investment, and we're kidding ourselves. It's time to stop pretending it's ever going to be anything other than a joke.
-
They cannot compete, they got crushed by Penn State even with the bye, even with having the better seeding. I have moved ZERO goalposts, I have been completely consistent with the fact that their program is not solvent (because it isn't) and that they receive "revenue" from the University general budget and student fees (which is a fact). No, I'm the canary in the coalmine saying enough of this eff'n bullshit. Enough is enough. The absolute eff'n joke is the people defending this absolute waste of money on a program that will never be competitive; and even if it were to become like Boise State (which it won't) it will still be a financial drain on the University. You are intellectually dishonest. You live in a delusional world, and you're part of the problem of why this runaway train has gotten so out of control. Alumni like you are part of the problem. Our University is in a terrible financial situation because of moronic takes like these.
-
Dude I was done with the Football program when they fired Terry Bowden. Bowden was a Nationally Recognized Name, and you fired him the same year you beat your only Big-10 team in history, a year removed from a MACC appearance for a no-name coach from John Carroll. Paying them both at the same time. Please stop defending this BS.

And Youngsown State does not run a profit. It subsidizes it with $13-million. SIZE is not how profitable it is. No YSU is not an example of "thriving". Talk to anyone who actually goes there, or works there, and they'll tell you about the absolutely disastrous financial situation that university is in.
-
I literally have backed up every single thing I've said. I already posted it for you, which you clearly didn't read because you decided to go on a cherry-picking expedition. "Student Fees" and "School Funds" are subsidies. They are not being generated BY the football team, and are being generated to cover expenses. Guess which schools don't have those? The only ones actually turning a profit.
-
No it's more like I'm not going to accept someone pissing on my shoes on something that's blatantly not true. If Boise State Football is generating so much of a profit, than why is the University subsiding, and student fees supporting it? That's. What. You. Call. Bullshit. They count that stuff as revenue. It's a subsidy. That's bullshit and you and I both know it. You're participating in propagating the bullshit.
-
Are you? $15-million subsidy the program counts as "revenue". Next you're going to tell us the Akron Football program turns a profit while receiving $19-million subsidy.
-
"Most valuable" DOES NOT MEAN Most Profitable. If you have to be subsidized by $15,000,000 from non-football funds in order to be solvent, you are a net negative. Yeah this list =/= Profitable, and just because 74 other programs are in worse shape doesn't mean you're in god shape. I swear do you ever critically think about this stuff before you post? Did you get a degree in marketing? Because you're pretty good at peddling bullshit.
-
Just so we're clear on this point: Boise State doesn't make a profit...as you're pretending it does.
-
And you apparently don't think past a headline, and misrepresent what other people are saying. If your program is receiving money from student fees, your program is a net negative. Period. Fullstop. If your program is receiving non-football donation or other school funds, your program is a net negative. Guess what? Akron Football has a Revenue of $30,000,000! Must be good right!? Except $20,000,000 comes from non-football other school funds, which is in most-part a student-fee that's not designated for football, but mostly goes to football. Boise State Football receives $15,000,000 of subsidy to break-even. All while it's cutting programs slashing budgets elsewhere on campus. It's an eff'n joke. You could cut the program tomorrow and it'd be a net positive windfall for Boise State.
-
Boise State does not make a profit. Of their annual revenue: -$3,700,000 comes from student fees. -$12,000,000 comes from school funds.
-
Which exists. You're not getting much "competition" between Kent and Akron. More like oversaturation and limited resources. Academic research IS NOT like Business. There are limited research grants and $$$, and with Republican States and Republican-run Congress cutting funding for most crucial research, there isn't any competition to be had. NSF ain't going to be funding to grants on the same topic in the Mid-West at universities less than 20 miles away from each other.
-
Or, the more logical, they'll think we were obsessed with gladiators.
-
They lost if I recall, and the outcome was never in doubt. So getting the #3 seed wasn't worth more than wiping your own ass with it. And no, I won't STFU, it's this kind of lame-ass pettyfogging that has led universities like ours to making dumbass financial decisions to support absolutely worthless football programs, all so a bunch of suits can pad their resumes. It's same pissass financial analysis that leads so many businesses into ruin because people value the dream over a sound cost benefit analysis. Has being the #3 seed helped Boise State Financially? Nope. So why don't you sit down and STFU. What tangible benefit has football been to Boise State? Not. A. Godamend. eff'n. Thing. Oh, they have a #3 seeding and lose to Big-10 Penn State, while cutting programs and professors. Give me a eff'n break.

The merchandise game sucks today. Like seriously, wtf happened? I remember when I was at UA 2008-2013, there were SO MANY OPTIONS when it came to gear and merchandise. Now it's all generic slop.
-
What they should do is make a unified state system(s) like California. Have one research branch, and one professional branch; but all one system; have the professional and research branches coexisting, but the the individual branches no overlapping in the same geographical areas. Kent and Akron both don't need nursing schools. Both don't need biology departments doing research ... etc.
-
And by making that point, you exactly prove my point. This whole charade has to stop, and people need to start calling it out.
-
Got mine on my bookshelf at work!
-
Then the MAC shouldn't exist at all then right? It exists only because the universities' students subsidize the MAC's existence by taking on absurd levels of debt for a "product" that will never be anything than, as you put it, the tallest midget. Sorry, but the Emperor is wearing no clothes. Why are we allowing this absolutely insane system to continue?
-
It has to do with the broader topic that Akron Football is so embarrassing, why are we even bothering anymore? It's not moving the goalposts, it's pointing out how much of a scam the entire proposition. The moving the goalpost commentary is the people trying to defend why Akron is blowing millions on a D-1 Football program, when it can't even score a point against the Mountain West juggernaut of Wyoming (obvious sarcasm). Like what possible good press/advertising/branding is there from that? None. And ZERO mid-majors are benefitting from playing football.
-
Most consistent program over the past 20 years. For MAC teams it ain't about NCAA wins, it's about NCAA appearances, and the most consistent team is Akron. It's just like how MAC Football isn't about being ranked or getting into the National Championship bracket, it's about post-season bowls and consistent over 500 seasons. The premium MAC football program is Ohio University, and Akron Basketball is the equivalent for Basketball.
-
Yup, and without looking at ESPN stats would have zero clue they've had any success over the past decade. Why? Because every major game they get blown out. Why? Because they can't compete with the big boys.
-
What if we didn't do that through the athletic department, and did it through the actual departments that do the actual work of education?
