Exacty. Others can down vote to thier heart's content, but it's our American anti-culture, mostly created and supported by people who have never set foot on a college campus let alone earned a degree, who have put college athletics on the path it is now - the have-everythings and the have-nothings - in an arms race to get to professional status. It's why I interact with students every day in my school who hardly (if at all) associate Ohio State Athletics with Ohio State University (I live in central Ohio). High school, college and university education is an afterthought in all this mess (it probabaly always was for a large percentage of college "scholar athletes"). We all let the media create a monster that is impovershing most D1 universities in this insane pursuit.

Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?

Chuckles.....😆 are there athletic department employees old enough to make a reference to a clown from an episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show? -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?
UA1996MAENG replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
At least one explanation is that Moorehead simply wanted to be a head coach again and was certainly a candidate about the time that Cristobol was being pursued by Miami at the end of his last season at Oregon. -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?

I agree there is no buyout coming, but the end of Moorehead's tenure is basically determined. I don't see another win on the schedule. Even Kent, which is a horrible program, was able to move the ball against EMU. -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?
UA1996MAENG replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
Is Moorehead under contract for two more years after this season or three? There certainly is no money for a buyout at UA, but it might be time for the AD start an unofficial search for Moorehead's replacment. I don't like to play the role of Debbie Downer, but I think I've seen enough. I did not expect a win against OU, but I did expect something more than we saw. This team is regressing. Where does the AD look now? I thought Moorehead seemed like a good choice three years ago. Now it seems even he knows it's over for all intents and purposes. -
MAC media payput to each university?
UA1996MAENG replied to UA1996MAENG's topic in Akron Zips Football
Other than added travel expenses. -
I'm just not on board with partial members unless it's very specific circumstances in very specific sports, but at this rate the MAC is losing ground within its own sphere - no longer sponsoring men's soccer is a bad sign. Too many MAC members don't have the money to sponsor even the traditinal lineup: BGSU has no men's T&F, etc.

Friday apologies if this has been brought up before, but in light of the possibility that NIU and UT could join the MW as football-only members, I'm again curious about the viability of the MAC in general as a G5 conference. As it stands now, how much does each university receive from its media contracts, agreements, etc.? I cannot find reliable information about this online. EDIT: I was just told on another site that each MAC university gets about 2.5 million, up from about 800K. Is that correct?

What would NIU and UT do with the rest of thier sports as football-only members? The MAC would not retain them for all other sports, would it?

Four wins would probabaly get him at least a plaque in the Student Union. -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?

Agreed...but that moment only comes once the wins come. Until then we live in the in-between land of speculating on if we'll get there and under whom. -

Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?
UA1996MAENG replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
I hope he does. His background in running the law school and his outside interests in a profitable sports (golf) marketing company lead me to believe he's not your average college president. I can't see him standing back and protecting an AD who made a bad choice that hurts UA's image in these difficult times (budget, enrollment, etc.), assuming Moorehead cannot win 4-5 games this season. -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?
UA1996MAENG replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
I could be wrong but I do not think Nemer, the new UA President, will be as tolerant of the losing and intent you describe. He understands the value of success in athletics and its essential marketing power on the modern college campus. I think you'll see a more active influence by Nemer. 2-10 three years running? I think he'll be gone. -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?
UA1996MAENG replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
You mean assuming the football world still sees him as an offensive guru after this stint at UA? He'd never be a head coach again, and finding a P5 coordinator position is not impossible but far less likley than it was two years ago. Like almost all MAC football contracts, he's here until the end. At least we aren't Kent with Kenni Burns. -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?
UA1996MAENG replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
I expected them to be 1-3 at this point, but it seems that the tide has risen for the MAC opponents I thought UA could beat this year. BGSU? EMU? UB? In August I would have said these were potential wins; today I can't see it. -
Moorhead 2024 make or break season to keep job?
UA1996MAENG replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
I agree. I'm pulling for him, hoping for success, drinking 8-dollar beers at Infocison Stadium to support my alma mater, but another 2-10 year would be the end for him. I was optimistic in August, had reasonable expectations consideirng the non-conference schedule, but now it does look like a tough task to improve on 2-10 last year. Kent is a possible win but based on recent play of the other MAC teams, I just do not see a third win, let alone 3 or 4. 😐 -
Agree totally. For the top of the football world, teams play in maybe 1-2 games that are compelling. OSU this year? Maybe 1 in the regular season. I've tuned out of P5 football almost 100%.

I think UC dropped men's soccer about five years ago. I can't imagine that UC in the Big12 doesn't have the funding to sponsor this sport, but as it goes across the country, even for "rich" universities, the cuts are always in the olympic sports in order to elevate FB and BB.

I was there in the cheap seats and I enjoyed the game after the first quarter. I just don't know what to think. Does this team have the talent to win a few games in the MAC? Yes. Will it? Hmmmm. I'm trying to be postive in that maybe this type of game allowed the team to work out timing (and work out the bugs) in real time, something that was not really possible against OSU and Rutgers. I think the Zips will start to gel over the next few games. We might even see some progress against South Carolina.
-
Exactly. I had thought eventually that all of the MW and P-2 (OSU/WSU) would merge and rebrand as the Mountain-Pacific Conference or under some such name. Now half of the MW is cast off and will have to join some other G5 conference, which will surley increase the travel/accomdations costs for programs that are already losing money.

Do I understand this correclty that the Pac-12 (six members) will still be a Power Conference in the future? That seems unfair to a few of the Group of 5 conferences that are, honestly, as good or better than those six programs collectively.
