  1. How right you were. This team is like no other in recent memory. Guard play on offense is sub-standard, but decent on D. Offense is all up front and we have no real answer for teams that pack the middle. For a team with only a small margain for error, we have far too many turnovers. We are winning on the strength of the greatest player in Akron history ( I have been watching Zips for 70 yrs and Freeman is a once in a lifetime player.
  2. Totally out of line, show some class and quit acting and posting like a 12 yr old.
  3. Are u kidding, Payton not even starting and is a non-factor. Raheem Moss is Toledo's best sll-around player, should be 1st team all star.
  4. More accurately we have no guards other than Tribble who can make open shots. Perhaps Nate, when and if he returns will improve the situation. It's not a one or two gsme slump, it's all season. Scott, Dawson and Thurmond are of no value on offense anf Prather is not the answer. This team is in trouble in 3 of its remaining 5 games unless their guard play greatly improves.
  5. I love Zips +4.5. They lost to Utah St, a better team than JMU, on the road and without Ali. While offense is spotty, D is solid and reliable. In fact, I can see Zips winning outright in a close game.point total is set at 143.5 and I also favor the under, remember Utah St score was 65-62, so my prediction is 71-68 Akron. Would be fun to see other predictions and who comes closest. Anyone want to try?
  6. 3,160, better but not good enough for battle for league lead should have been over 4 thousand. Toledo undersized, Hunter should have dominated but was a non-facto. Finally, a decent contribution from Dawson. Next on our plate Central Mich, picked finish last. , but sitting in 3rd.
  7. I like Zips to cover 4.5 spread. Home court, home crowd (4122), and better D. Toledo guards provide bulk of their scoring and Tribble,Dawson,Thornton all strong defenders. Toledo's D not strong in the paint where Zips derive most of their scoring. Zips win, 76-70.
  8. Teams will continue to defend the paint lust as Miama did unless and until Zips prove that their guards and Hunter can hit outsides shots. Loss of Nate hurt much more than realized. Having watched every game, I'm convinced that Tribble and Tavari give us our best chance. Thornton and Dawson either won't shoot when open or can't hit when they do. Scott is more of a slasher but can't penetrate when middle is clogged up.
  9. When doubleteamed Freeman has started to pass to the open man, but too many times our guards and even Ali and Hunter pass up open shots. We ne3d someone to man up and hit some shots-doesn't have to be a 3 pointer. Oh how this team could use a good shooting guard.
  10. Having watched all the Zips MAC games, my take is that Western looks like the next best team, but haven't seen Toledo. Zips are 1 good shooting guard away from being a team that could make some real news in the Big Dance
  11. Word is Zips hit hard by flu bug, unable to practice all week and not at full strength hence the change in the betting line. Doesn't sound good.
  12. Agree, was good team win, but offense really struggled in 1st half, all they did was pass it inside to Freeman who was double-teamed, no effort to find the open man. Midway thru 2nd half they discovered the other 4 players. Maybe illness and fatigue was a factor but 1st half play has been a factor all year and at some point it will cost them a game.
  13. Nate Johnson played 25 minutes and scored 12 pts. I agree that Tribble is Groce's favorite and deserves playing time, but I would rotate him with Johnson/Scott because teams will double Freeman and we need shooters who can make open shots since someone will be open.
  14. Nobody mentioned Scott or Johnson who I thought were our best combination on offense. Would start them, then sub-inn Tribble for D and Thornton for ballhandling and assists. The StBonny game helped to tighten up our defense.
