  1. I found it a bit alarming that some OU fans were saying that JD should apologize for his "outburst." Also, many felt there was no penalty, which is a joke.ZipGrad93
  2. It's all about perspective... And, some fans of OU have some interesting perspectives, to say the least.http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/t...&PID=125143ZipGrad93
  3. As I mature? Thank you for the kind words, Grandpa. Look...we'll never know what Frye would've done this year. That I'll give you. But we what do know is that Frye had a chance to be the Browns starting QB and failed. He is now a 3rd string NFL QB. Derek Anderson got the same chance and has had great success. He's a Pro Bowl candidate. That's about as cut and dry as you get.I don't care what Charlie has done or may ever do as a pro. All I know is that for four years I got to see a kid grow into a very good college quarterback - probably the best ever at Akron - while giving maximum effort on the field. He broke about 50 passing records at the University, and did with class and humility, while taking a beating from opposing defensive lineman. I'm proud that he was a Zip, and priveleged to watch him. I absolutely do not understand the mentality of those saying he isn't a "winner" or whatever. What were Akron's records when Jason Taylor was here? Was Taylor a "winner"? Why do some of you feel the need to tear Charlie down? He never did anything to harm the university in any way, and he did a great deal to progress our program to respectability in Division I. No, we're not there yet, but we're a lot closer than we were before Frye helped put Akron on the map, at least to some degree, with a win over ranked Marshall, and good offensive showings against some big-time teams. I wish him all the best in his future, and thank him for what he did while he was at Akron.ZipGrad93
  4. Not sure if we're thinking of the same Marshall game, but the "Leftwich" game was in 2002, under Coach Owens. ZipGrad93
  5. I didn't realize this was a half full/half empty type thing.Yeah, the Browns suck It's simple... You're looking at it from the negative or pessimistic side - no teams really wanted him. I'm looking at it from the optimistic side - a team was willing to trade a pick and pay him a million a year to ensure that they got him.I'm not trying to go round and round on something with you. As a matter of fact, for what it's worth, I was with you on the whole Buckeyes/Zips thing, but I just decided to avoid the argument. Also, I don't think you're bashing Charlie...ZipGrad93
  6. I do get your point... Maybe I just prefer to look at it from the "glass is half full" perspective. We definitely agree on the quality of the Browns organization.
  7. I disagree. If teams didn't think highly of him, they could've just waited for the Browns to cut him, and then put in a FA offer for him. Most likely, that offer would've been at a significantly lower salary than Charlie's current contract. I'd say the fact that somebody traded for him is a pretty good sign that at least a few teams in the NFL liked Charlie a lot.ZipGrad93
  8. Is the game on TV? I'm disappointed that it's not part of the "Live Events" package this year (from GoZips.com). Only 3 games on the web, at least so far...ZipGrad93
  9. True. Also, Wouldn't we also have to pay to break a contract like that? Isn't there usually some sort of buy-out clause?
  10. Yep. Put 20 lbs. on him, and he would be Wolfe's size. Certainly a Div. I training program could do that, and allow him to keep his speed. I'd love to see someone with speed like that returning kicks, taking some handoffs, and getting some time in the slot for the Zips. He'd be a threat...ZipGrad93
  11. I think that's the best, most intelligent, and most accurate post I've read on the topic - anywhere! No doubt, Charlie is set up to fail for Golden Boy Quinn. Unless Quinn is exceptional, which I'm not sure he is, he's got a hard road in front of him. It will be another tough year for Browns fans...ZipGrad93
  12. Since a lot of you guys seem to remember Clark, I'll share my pickup game story...On an early Saturday afternoon, it was only a group of us from Bulger Hall and a handfull of football players shooting hoops in Memorial Hall. Normally, they wouldn't play with scrubs like us, but since it was only us in the gym, naturally we decided to play a pickup game. Most of us played high school ball, and we had some guys over 6 feet tall, so we had a little size. We were pretty decent, and knew each other pretty well. Like most football players I'd seen play during my years in college, they were great athletes, but not really basketball players. Consequently, we were tied 10-10 in a game to 11. On the next possession, they had the ball. Clark was on the baseline, about 15 feet from the basket. He was setting up to shoot. I came off my man from the wing, came from the side, and swatted his shot out of bounds. I stood all of 5' 10" and weighed about 160 lbs. He looked at me and said "Foul!" I stared back at him, and yelled "GOOD CALL!" Needless to say, they won the game. Football players didn't lose to guys like us, even if they lost to us, if you know what I mean...By the way, the best guy I ever saw play in The Pit or for the Zips was Anthony Buford. That guy was incredible both on the playground and in the Jar, but I guess that discussion is for another thread, LOL...ZipGrad93
  13. It was John Clark (if we're talking about the same guy). He was kicked off (according to the rumor mill on campus at the time) for selling crushed Tylenol as cocaine (I don't know if that's a fact).I actually played a pick-up game of basketball against him and some other football players one time. He was a scary dude.ZipGrad93
  14. And, OSU's defense is the strength of their team. It could be a long day for CJ and the running backs...If Akron can contain Wells, then they MAY be able to keep it to something like 28-14. I think that's wishful thinking at this point. Who knows, though...ZipGrad93
  15. With Jackson's running ability, and a stable of great RB's, why not run an option-based offense? Why not fit the "system" to your talent? If you can't recruit the guys you need to play your "system," then change the system to match the talent you have! How about an offense like Nebraska's under Tommy Frazier? It sounds like the O-line can run block- might as well take advantage of it. We run a gimmick defense, so why not run a gimmick offense?Maybe I play too much videogame football, or something, but why wouldn't that work?ZipGrad93
  16. Woulda coulda shoulda...How different would the career of Zwick be if that TE (Nicol?) held on to the TD pass against TX a couple years back? That drop, and Zwick's subsequent fumble on the last drive of the game, really opened the door for Smith. To his credit, Smith took advantage of it.ZipGrad93
  17. The kid was actually 12 in the video (the coach of the team posted in the comments section). Still, he's impressive. ZipGrad93
  18. Before I start my Dynasty, I'd like to get the roster named. There's around 70 players on the 360 version, which is more than I ever remember! Lots of numbers and names that don't match up with GoZips.com...Anyway, here's what I have for the ones I wasn't 100% sure of:#22 - Da'von Moore#31 - Bryan Williams#65 - Craig Truax#92 - Marquinn Davis#52 - Paul Simkovich#44 - Brian Brikowski#6 - Matt Rodgers#94 - Joe Rash#59 - Matt Little#80 - Curtis Brown#81 - Vince Hill#56 - Mondo Sewell#85 - Richard Sandilands#34 - Aaris Reed#44 doesn't look like a "Brikowski," but I couldn't find anyone else from NY/NJ. Also, I don't believe Aaris Reed is on the roster, but he's in the game (as is Harvey). Lastly, Curtis Brown is from FL, but in the game #80 is from OH, which threw me a bit.Let me know if you have anything different. I'd like to have my roster as correct as possible. Thanks,ZipGrad93
  19. What's the official word on Harvey? Transfer? Academically ineligible? I've been wondering about him for weeks, and never heard anything "official." Sorry if I missed it...Thanks,ZipGrad93
  20. Any word on Harvey? Seems like I read somewhere he currently isn't with the team. Was it personal issues, grades, or something? Is he coming back? He's not on the Spring Roster.I'd hate to see him gone after such an impressive season last year.ZipGrad93
  21. Maybe they'll be playing with a split squad, like MLB teams in Spring Training...
  22. Hey Gang,First post, but I've been "lurking" for a few months now. Great board - and great Zip/MAC information.Anyway, I'm watching this over the internet, since I subscribe to the package available from GoZips.com. My question is why do they cut away from the action to show images from the scoreboard/videoboard? Most of the time, it happens on foul shots, but sometimes, it happens right in the middle of the action! Since they don't show the score, it's hard to keep up when we miss 15-20 seconds of the action here or there.Just curious...Thanks.
