  1. Anybody else fed up with all the rest of the elitist posters on other MAC boards dissing on our Zips? We earned the MAC EAST TITLE. We beat BG and NIU... Toledo couldn't do that yet they got the GMAC Bowl before the MACC is even played? I know we could end up 6-6 and not eligible, and we should have taken care of business against Army and 1st and Goal on Ball State 1 yd line would have made us 8-3. But, seriously, do any of us think it would be any different if we had won those two games? Toledo still would be in the GMAC and Akron and NIU picking up the scraps. It actually would have been worse because you waould have a division champ finishing 7-5 or 8-4 sitting at home while a 8-3 Toledo takes their slot.... And just for fun, letst look at Toledo's 8-3 shall we?? Rockets 8 wins are: Western Illinois (1AA), Western Michigan, Temple, Eastern Mighigan, Ball State, Buffalo and Bowling Green. The three losse are: Fresno State 44-14, Central Michigan 21-17, NIU 35-17. Two quality wins (WMU & BG) the rest is pathetic. NIU's 7-4 is more impressive to me... Wins are:Tennesse Tech (1AA), Miami, EMU, Can't, Central Michigan, Toledo, Western Michigan. The 4 losses were to Michigan, Northwestern, Akron and Ball State. Three quality wins and 3 quality losses. Bottom line is either a Division Championship means something or it doesn't. In 2005, the MAC East Title means nothing. Other thoughts from what I've been reading: NIU is counting the Zips out just like last time around.. that I don't mind. The All- MAC team disses Jay Rohr. The MAC office hopes we lose so they don't have to explain their own ineptitude with a possible 7-5 Division winner sitting at home... Like that hasn't happened before. I looked at the Beacon this am.. I know I shouldn't but I read a nice story with pic about JD and the Zips. http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/colleg...on/13281731.htm Inside I read about the "Free Ride" for Zips students by Gary Eastwick...I was actually ok with the article until I realized it was run two days before the game (no time to plan) and the Beacon just cannot run a story on Akron Athletics without taking a pot shot.... http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/colleg...on/13281726.htm Final lines of the story are below: "Starting rowdy tradition If UA can't convince students to travel three hours with a free game ticket with free transportation, chances are bowl organizers won't take the Zips seriously in the recent future. Yes, a school needs a winning record to be bowl eligible, but ask the Zips about last year's Hawaii snub. They were the only bowl-eligible team in the nation which didn't play in a bowl. Waddell hopes the AK-ROWDIES, a new athletic support organization, can bring more than 500 of its student members to Detroit. The organization was launched two weeks ago at the men's basketball season opener. Membership is free. Students receive a T-shirt, sweatband, premium floor seats at Rhodes Arena and other goodies. Jason Smith is both an intern in UA's athletic department and a member of the AK-ROWDIES. He spent part of Monday typing in more than 650 member names into the organization's database. ``We're trying to start a tradition,'' Smith said. It all starts Thursday, for better or for worse." Note to Gary: WTF is "recent future?" Moron. Typically, you would say "recent past" in referring to historical references. In this instance you are referring to the future which has yet to occur so it can't be recent....... You mean "near future." Professional writer???
  2. Once again I ask... where the heck is the ignore button??? Hey WPIAL::
  3. AS much as we are tired of hearing about him, he's got to be sick of the "former Universtiy of Akron" tag he has been saddled with courtesy of Terry Goofy Akron Beacon Journal. I'm sure he (and most of us as well) would prefer "Current Ashland football coach." http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/13267793.htm at the bottom under "Talkin' Everything" Eagles go 9-2... Owens is COY and former players are assistants.. Quoting "• Former University of Akron football coach Lee Owens had a terrific year at Ashland University, leading the Division II school to a 9-2 record and being named his league's Coach of the Year. He took over a team that had been 2-9 for two years in a row. He was 5-6 in 2004, then 9-2. • Some fans might not know that Massillon Tom Stacy was an assistant under Owens at Akron and then Ashland. He's having a tremendous season. Another former Owens assistant is Greg Gillum, now assistant recruiting coordinator at OSU. Two former Akron players have been helping Owens out as assistants at Ashland -- Dan Basch and Butchie Washington."
  4. I thought I read MAC Champ is guaranteed a slot in Motor City Bowl. If Zips win, NIU would be screwed by Toledo... not right... not right at all.... Might as well have BG accept the MCB bid now too... then we can just cancel the MAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME because it is MEANINGLESS!!!
  5. Mods... where's the "Ignore Button?" WPIAL... they make medication for your condition.
  6. C'mon WPIAL.. you can say MAC EAST CHAMPIONS... Can't you???
  7. 42-7!!! 3rd qtr....
  8. 35-7 NIU 3rd qtr !!!!
  9. as long as we take care of business tomorrow.... never a sure thing in a rivalry game... I'd take it too... Bowl game or not... Win the MACC and then I'd say we should go. But 1st things 1st... GO HUSKIES!!!
  10. 21-7 NIU... GO HUSKIES!!!
  11. Zips win 5-0!!!!
  12. TD!!!! 7-7.... Zips Soccer 5, WVU 0 Final.....
  13. The one consistent thing about this season has been the inconsistency. Toledo, BG, Miami, NIU, Akron, BSU, CMU and WMU have all looked really good and then turned around the following week and stunk up the place. This is a rivalry game... throw out the previous week's performances and even the pattern of home team wins (ask NIU if it was a motivator or not). This will be a good game.. Toledo will play for pride and a chance to defend their title. BG will play with talent and with a desire to reach the MAC Championship Game. It will be cold and wet and snowing.... Anything can happen in a rivalry game.... I sure hope it does tonite... I just keep thinking "1st and goal at the BSU 1 yard line"
  14. I assume Toledo was favored at home vs NIU last week too??? BG was a 14-point favorite over the Zips even without Omar. Toledo is going to come out mad as hell about their collapse at the end of the NIU game and nothing makes that nasty taste in your mouth go away faster than knocking off your rival to end the season. Should be a great game.. I'll be watching...
  15. Now it becomes clearer.. Miami stomped OU last nite to finish 5-3. Here are the possibilities: Scenario 1: BG wins tonite and wraps up MAC EAST Title Scenario 2: Toledo wins tonite to force a three-way tie with Akron, Bowling Green and Miami all finishing at 5-3. As stated before, the winning percentage of cross-over opponents is the first tie-breaker in a three-way tie. If Toledo and NIU win, the cross-over games look like this: Zips (15-9) BSU (4-4) CMU (5-3) NIU (6-2) BG (15-9) BSU (4-4) WMU (5-3) Toledo (6-2) Miami (14-10) NIU (6-2) CMU (5-3) EMU (3-5) The RedHawks are eliminated even though they own the tie-breaker over the Zips. Head-to-head is not factored into the three-way tie. It now becomes a two-team tie and reverts to head-to-head results between BG and Akron which the Zips win. The winning percentage of the cross-over opponents doesn't matter anymore. If WMU beats NIU.. then BG wins the three-way tie-breaker straight up... Akron (14-10) BSU (4-4) CMU (5-3) NIU (5-3) BG (15-9) BSU (4-4) WMU (6-2) Toledo (5-3) Miami (14-10) NIU (6-2) CMU (5-3) EMU (3-5) This is why we've been hearing all the talk about the importance of the NIU-WMU game to the ZIPS. GO ROCKETS!!! GO HUSKIES!!!

  17. ok ... hold on...My Bad... Standings going into the week were: BG 14-8 BSU (4-3) WMU (5-2) Toledo (5-2) If we assumed BSU and NIU and Toledo win -- BG goes to 16-8 BSU (5-3) WMU (5-3) Toledo (6-2) If CMU then 15-9... You're right.. CMU win was a must... I didn't add the win for Toledo win over BG... they still get another win even if they lose the game. Sorry.... Currently standings are BG 14-8 BSU (4-4) WMU (5-2) Toledo (5-2) Akron 14-9 BSU (4-4) CMU (5-3) NIU (5-2) We now need Toledo and NIU to win. The Toledo win would force the tie and give BG a Win. But an NIU win gives BG another loss (WMU) and the Zips another win. That would give the Zips 15-9 and the tie breakers kick in.... BSU (4-4) CMU (5-3) NIU (6-2) Miami-OU is meaningless.. Right???
  18. Not so fast my friend.. I believe the CMU-BSU game is almost irrelevant as well cause the Zips pick up a win no matter who wins. And Miami cannot overtake the Zips in the three-way tie-breaker, period. A CMU win gives the Zips a second way to win a three-way tie breaker but it is not a must.... B,C,D are musts...Toledo/BG and NIU/WMU are the key games and of course the Zips would need to stomp the flushes. See if this adds up to you. I 've been looking at this over and over... I agree a two-way tie with BG is best scenario. Although I believe the Zips still have the advantage in 2 out of 3 three-way tie scenarios. The only bad three-way tie is if WMU beats NIU. Background info on 3 way tie scenarios: 1) MAC EAST FINAL STANDINGS Akron 5-3 BG 5-3 Miami 5-3 2) Three-way tie is resolved by the winning percentage of cross-divisional opponents. CURRENT STANDINGS BG >> BSU, WMU, Toledo 14-7 Akron >> BSU, CMU, NIU 13-8 Miami >> CMU. NIU, EMU 11-10 3)If we assume Toledo beats BG and Miami wins and Akron wins to force the 3 way tie, then BG has one loss with Toledo and needs WMU to Beat NIU to win the MAC East. Cuz the Zips will get a win out of BSU-CMU no matter who wins the game (it's better for us if CMU wins cuz then BG gets 2 losses but it really doesn't matter. Cuz if we tie BG we win on head-to-head.) Scenario #1: Advantage Zips THE ASSUMPTIONS: Zips win vs Can't BG loses to Toledo Miami win vs OU BSU over CMU NIU over WMU.... THE FINAL STANDINGS Akron 15-9 BG 15-9 Miami 13-11 (we'll assume EMU over Buffalo) Miami is eliminated because, even if all three opps win (CMU, NIU and EMU) it will give the Zips 2 wins as well and Akron finishes 1 game ahead of Miami. (Head-to-head does not apply in the three-way tie-breaker.) So, while on paper this is a three-way tie, it is really a two-way tie with BG and the Zips. Zips win on head-to-head by virtue of 24-14 win over BG. Scenario#2: Advantage Zips THE ASSUMPTIONS Zips win vs Can't BG loses to Toledo Miami win vs OU CMU over BSU NIU over WMU THE FINAL STANDINGS Akron 15-9 BG 14-10 Miami 13-11 Zips win on three-way tie-breaker Scenario#3: Advantage BG Zips win vs Can't BG loses to Toledo Miami win vs OU BSU over CMU WMU over NIU Akron 14-10 BG 16-8 Miami 11-13 BG Wins on three-way tie-breaker. Who would have thought it may all come down to 1st-and-goal in Muncie??? Damn.. So... 1) Root for Toledo on Tues.... otherwise nothing else matters... 2) Root for NIU on Wednesday... and then 3) Go to the Bowl Thanksgiving morning and watch our Zips win the MAC EAST!!! 4) Zips vs NIU rematch in MACC in Detroit??? Cool....
  19. Anyboy get what is going on over at MAC bbs?? Oddball banned, unbanned MAC bbs splitting up? What's going on and what is up with a second site? Anybody been monitoring this fiasco???
  20. I've had a few days to calm down after a dismal loss to BSU... Current outlook: Guys, the Zips are 4-5 with 2 to go.. if the air isn't completely gone out of the balloon, these are both winnable home games vs Ohio and Can't. Looking back at the schedule, I think we all would agree, this is where we thought we'd be right now. Nobody figured NIU or BG for wins. CMU has turned out be for real. BSU and Army make up for BG and NIU... so 4-5 is about right. If the Zips can win two, they finish 6-5 and 5-3. Same as last season. My opinion is that would be a successful year considering where we all thought we'd be. I am still very disappointed that we didn't take advantage of the NIU and BG wins by losing to BSU, but overall, we would have maintained. If they drop one, to Ohio, then still a decent year at 5-6, 4-4. Drop both .. then you are 4-7 and have losses to BSU and Can't State plus a squeaker at Buffalo. Not such a great season. I'm curious where you see it now?
  21. Comments while after watching Rockets and Bobcats: Anybody else get tired of the "Solichgasms" that ESPN2 crew were having all nite? Geez, the guy hasn't won anything yet and you'd think Vince Lombardi had descended on Athens. And yes ESPN, we know the Bobcats beat Pitt.. a lousy Pitt on two DEFENSIVE TD's. For the record, Amstutz has won numerous MAC titles. And all we get are close-ups of his Santa-like belly and comments about "Hey Tom... what's with the whistle?" and "He's never left the city of Toledo." Schmucks. I expect if any of us catch the Zips vs OU on ESPNU, we'll not even hear about JD Brookhart... you've heard of him?? The MAC Coach of the Year last season?? Anyway, see if this adds up to you: Toledo defeats Ohio 30-21 tonite. Bobcats now are 3-3 with games @ Akron and Miami at home. Kittens are TOUGH at home this season. Sure glad they have to come here. They're not as good on the road yet. Kittens will not win the division. But here's hoping they take out Miami. MAC EAST is now a tie between Akron, BG and Miami. Miami controls their own destiny. Win out and they're champs. Akron holds tie breaker on BG, Miami hold tie breaker on Zips. BG and Miami have yet to play. IF the Zips take care of business vs BSU, OU and Can't State. AND BG (with Omar at the helm) or Ohio knocks off Miami.... MAC EAST Akron 6-2 BG 6-2 Miami 5-3 Ohio 3-5 Can't State 0-8 Buffalo 0-8 Miami still has Buffalo, BG and @ Ohio... Go Bulls, Go Falcons, Go Solichkittens. A Bulls win is a long shot but I think BG and OU are in play....especially BG. (Alot of MACsters out there are saying BG is falling apart and will be lucky to finish .500. I'm not so sure. The Falcons are getting their superstar back soon. IMO, most of the MAC elite teams are only 1 or 2 injuries away from being an average MAC team. Toledo lost Gradkowski for a couple of games and they were stomped by Fresno and look what happened to them after Bruce went down in the MACC Game in '04... Connecticut rolled in the MCB. BG loses Omar and presto -- two home conference losses -- WMU stomps them and Akron wins by ten. Imagine if Miami lost Betts or Nance... Or NIU lost Horvath or Wolfe.) Well, here's hoping that it comes down to the Turkey Day game vs Can't State!!! cool
  22. Zips need BG to knock off Miami... Here's some encouraging news... Omar maybe back for last three games. Back on practice field anyway. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...RTS03/511010378
  23. Pardon me.. but that's TESTICLE TECH
  24. Thank God.. Nick picked BSU 33-23.. That means the Zips should win.. Nick's Zips picks have been 180 degrees out of phase in 2005: Nick's Picks: Purdue (correct) MTSU (wrong) NIU (wrong) Akron over CMU (wrong) Akron over Buffalo (correct) Miami over Akron (correct) should have been wrong... Akron over Army (wrong) BG over Akron (wrong) Ball State over Akron (???) 3-5 picking Zips games....
