I was Yes, the campus is looking very nice.Remember the old fire station where the JAR now sits? And that little mail room inbetween the Student Center and Simmons Hall?Good memories. I remember that stupid little mail room. I would check my mail box once or twice a semester and it was just full of crap. Of course I am sure there was even more crap than I found because the floor was covered with papers too. When we weren't in the Chuckery playing eucker, we would go up to the Hilltopper. I think that's what is was called. We would play paper football. Remember that? The thing I remember more than anything at UA was when I would park in the Exchange parking deck. I was taking night classes and I would have to walk from the deck to the center of campus and to Olin Hall. I will always remember the night time winter wind tunnel that formed between the 2 Schrank Halls. I still get chilled bones when I think about that.Ah the good old day at the U. I miss them. However, like I said earlier. I am extremely jealous, yet proud of what my Alma Mater has turned into.

Buck up....at least we have the memory of blowing off Earth Science to hit the Chuckery for a pitcher of 3.2 beer at 10 a.m. Earth Science. I think I had Dr Friola on the TV for that class at Leigh Hall.Or maybe that was biology.Does Dr. Hockman still teach TV MUM class?(what a joke that was)The Chuckery. All I remember about that place is the upper part where we would blow off class and play euker all day. :D3-2 beer. I can't believe we used to drink that stuff. Talk about being desperate for beer......

What does anyone see on aris Reed? He was pretty highly ranked coming in here.He seemed to be the quick scat back type with jets. Is he still on the team?

So when the stadium is done there will still be construction going on all around the outside of the building?

When I went to UA it was a complete commuter school. They had just closed off the street the Library is on. Forgot the name. But is was still sort of a depressing campus. I had some friends that went to BG. I used to think that was such a nicer campus and I was jealous of their campus. I never really had the chance to enjoy the college campus atmosphere. Hanging at the Splash, Sun and Town House was about as good as it got.Well, the other day I drove by campus and actually parked and walked around campus. Wow has this turned into a beautiful school. With the new stadium coming along it will only be more and more like a campus atmosphere. Like I said, I am jealous. I wish I had the beautiful new student union instead of that skanky student center. Of course I always liked Stoddards ice cream. The Student wellness center is gorgeous. I have been through other times, but this time I actually paid attention and started feeling old and jealous.

What else is new? It's always fun to look for the roster each fall. Regulars that we were all counting on just vanish for no apparent reason. So who are the 2 that didn't have the grades?

Yeah he must really suck. He got beat out by the Heisman trophy winner.I am sure that if Zwick came to Akron you wouldn't have wanted him.

Zips offers who recently signed elsewhere...
Buckzip replied to timmyboy's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Not to be a jerk, but none of these guys have signed anywhere. They have "verbaled" to those schools. They can't sign until February. Many, many players verbal to a school and then change their mind. It happens quite often, even at the big schools.A lot can happen between now and NLOID. That may be true, but they certainly won't fall all the way down to any MAC school; that would be the dumbest decision they could ever make.I mean it's the truth, no disrespect to the MAC, it's just the way it is! Of course I understand that. My point is that they haven't signed anywhere. Also, it does happen that scholarships get pulled for any number of reasons, possibly injury or it is contingent on grades, etc. I am merely saying that anything can happen. That being said, the only way any of these guys ends up signing with UA is if he doesn't get the grades at the other school and prop's here. Then as usual with most of our props, they never play at UA anyway. -

HE would certainly need a redshirt year to bulk up some. But the potential is there with the right development.

I'll be there. Sounds like a great idea.

He has gotten quite a bit bigger since he got here. This needs to be his breakout year.

Fleming closer to beinga Zip
Buckzip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Ben wanted to be a QB. Most big time schools were recruiting him as a TE IIRC.Also, quite a few players fall between the cracks. Many players come from MAC schools or Conf. USA or other mid major conferences. But there are quite a few more from the SEC, B10, ACC, etc.The facilities and new stadium will help us recruit against other mid majors. it will not help us against the big boys. We will not beat out USC, Florida, Oklahome, OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame etc. for many recruits. Sure, we may get one here or there, but few and far between. Now this may help up with the lower BCS conference schools like Indiana, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Cincinnati etc. But anyone that thinks we will be able to lure recruits away regularly from the major powers will be terribly dissapointed.Sure these guys will like the facilities and new stadium, but the other schools have nice facilities too. Have you seen the new Hayes Center at OSU? Yikes. Also, these guys will take playing in front of 75-100k week in and week out while also being on TV every week. Plus many of these other schools are NFL factories.UA still can't offer that and probably never will.I am as excited as everyone else about what is going on, but to think we are ready to be considered a big boy is quite premature.Maybe if we can do what Boise State did, by going undefeated and then beating a top 10 team in a BCS game we will get there. But not yet.Remember, we always lose games we shouldn't. That goes for bball and fball. -
There is no such thing as too much "quality" depth. Especially when you can play small. Sometimes running with 3 guards on the floor is what is needed. We do need to get a sold 4 and 5, but depth is needed also.

New stadium: soccer friendly? Expandable?
Buckzip replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
I thought we were building a new soccer stadium -
Sounds like a good pickup. Goota love the nickname too.
-
How about that. One of our top recruits didn't make the grades and will probably never play for UA.
-
Very very nice. Well done UA. I can't wait until it's done.Hopefully this will have an immediate impact on recruiting. If not this year, then for sure next year when guys will be able to see it going up and knowing they will be in it by their second year at UA.Great job.
-
On an OSU site there is word that Andrew Colosimo, a 6'7" 245lb TE has commited to UA. He is being recrutited as an OTHas anyome else heard anything about this?

West Virginia runs it, but I'm not sure how long they've had it as a scheme. They're ranked #2 overall in the pre-season which is not too shabby if you ask me. West Virginia ran it last year. If you noticed they had one of the worst run defenses in the country.Any defense will work if you have the "right" People.A 0-7-4 defense would work if you had 7All American LB's and 4 All American DB'sThe 3-3-5 is a horrible defense against the run.......
-
So you all think that a 4-3 will change how good our run defense is? Especially considering JD himself pointed out that he has difficulty finding one dominating D-Lineman let alone 2?The most Likely defensive change would be to a 3-4 to incorporate the Linebacker depth, but the 3-3-5 is still the best option because you have a larger blitz package that you can run out of it and the defensive shifts confuse blocking schemes. They do need to address how to cover the option out of the 3-3-5 so we don't see Edelman (on any QB for that matter) looking like an All-American against us again this year. Considering they gave up an average of 322.5 ypg last year any improvement anywhere is going to be huge (meaning dominating because that is only 50 yards a game more then WMU). And that average can drop just from us being able to run the ball better on offense and keep our D off the field so they can rest up. Actually with a 4-3 you need less big bodies. The 3-3-5 basically uses 3 DT. They are called ends, but they are closer to DT size. With a a 4-3 you have 2-DT and 2DE. With the 3-3-5, you have 3 DT. Maybe not true DT, but they are certainly bigger than a standard DE.
-
So he really will be with us in 2009?That's great to hear.
-
The Browns still sell out and they suck.I truly beleive that a fresh new stadium on campus will help us draw.I have gone to nearly every home game over the past 25 years. I hate the rubber bowl. If I was a casual fan instead of a diehard fan, I wouldn't go to that sh**hole.
-
What's the latest on this guy? We showed him as a commit, but he isn't on the signing list. Rivals has him as a 2009 verbal to Akron.????
-
I feel it is time for us to switch to a 4-3 base defense. We seem to have DE that are too small for the 3-3-5 but would be great at the 4-3.We have 4-3 sized DE. In the 3-3-5 the DE is basically a DT.We would get more pass rush and be a better overall defense.
