  1. I guess I don't get why BG gets #3 It's better than UA's but not #3 material.
  2. Well, considering there are stands behind both goals and the main grandstand, I think the seating is there. Maybe instead of trying to have one big grandstand, they are shooting for the "Stadium" feel instead. Might give a different vibe?
  3. I use the Interbelt to get into and out of the city occasionally when coming to campus. It's not that big of a hassle. It's impossible to get to the interbelt if you're heading west. That's why so many people are trying to exit at Main Street, which is the whole reason they want to shut down the Wolf Ledges ramps. I just jump on Exchange street and go down to Akron General and then hang a left. I think I took that way after every football game this year. Oh, wait, you are saying if you are heading west on 76......yea, I can see that!

  5. I think it is more about getting people to notice the program than the player for the MAC. If a MAC school can boast a "Legitimate" Heisman candidate, that will get some interest generated in the program. Every year the MAC schools say "Hey, look at us, we have a solid football program over here, you should check it out" and we all know the result. Saying there is a "Heisman" candidate is something that breaks that mold. If that players name gets mentioned a couple of times on ESPN, people will want to check it out. As for a MAC player winning the Heisman, we all know it isn't going to happen. Besides, I don't think the Heisman goes to the best college football player anyway. It goes to a "Marquee" player on a good, well known team. As for picking the best players, I leave that for the NFL to figure out.

  7. What's 1350's "range"? 1 mile? 106.9 was finally a chance to really pick up a Zips game that actually somewhat came in anywhere outside of downtown/campus in Akron. I can get 1350 in Cleveland, almost all the way to Lorain, out past Ravenna, But I can't get it at all in Wadsworth... I don't know what type of antenna you have, but in my car I lose 1350 shortly outside the Akron city limits! I did an informal test yesterday to see how far the 1420 signal goes. I consider yesterday to be a good radio day based upon the reception of the Detroit radio stations I was getting. On the best days, I get 88.7 out of Detroit in Elyria. Yesterday I had 88.7 in Vermillion when normally, it's spotty in Sandusky. Anyway, I had little trouble getting 1420 into Sandusky yesterday. I bet simply adding this station will triple or even quadruple the number of people in the coverage area. I'm not saying it will quadruple the number of listeners. I consider it ridiculous that when UofA is targeting the Cleveland metropolitan area as it's fan base, to not have that covered by radio. This was an absolutely necessary addition and I'm glad to see it happen. TW seems to be getting some points here lately with the soccer stadium and now this. Keep up the good work!
  8. I actually sent a request through "ask the AD" for this so I am glad to see this happen. I'm getting in my car now to see if I can get 1420..... I hope I can! Good job!
  9. Newly redeveloped building downtown. This developer is touting development around "Knowledge Centers" http://vimeo.com/groups/15456/videos/13280460
  10. How are they going to mow it? Or will it just look like that dog on sesame street?
  11. DAMN! Now I have to apologize to the entire country for cursing our team. DEAR USA: I'm Sorry!
  12. So, I'm watching the world cup and it's the end of regulation. If the USA wins today, the country will become even more drawn to soccer (I don't consider myself a soccer fan, but I'm watching). So, we all know we have a great program. My question is: 1) Should UA seize the opportunity after today and start advertising around Cleveland about our soccer program? a) If yes, then how should they go about it? If no, then why? Now...go USA!

  14. I am always amazed at the haters at ohio.com. I don't see how building a new 10 story hotel in downtown Akron is a bad thing. I don't know where the funding is coming from, but if it isn't from the city, there is even less reason to complain. What is so terrible about having a nice, new 10 story hotel in the center of your city to bring people into your city? Apparently there is a lot wrong with it judging by some of the comments! I dont' know about everyone else, but from when I started school back in the early-mid 90's Downtown was absolutely horrible! It's not Chicago now but it's a hell of a lot better. I'll probably stay there at some point shortly after it is built for a Zips game.
  15. Agreed. And playing solid football for quite a few years too. One or two years of success won't cut it.
  16. I hope so as it's not useful anymore. Well, I guess it's not useful in keeping students clear of cars but it is useful in the winter in keeping students warm. Besides, it look stupid to have a bridge over a student walkway unless the bridge is on like the 4th floor.
  17. Hmmm...interesting analysis. I will pose these questions. 1) Ask someone from out of state who historically has a better Football Team BG or Akron? I think the answer will come back BG. They have had some pretty solid years and even gotten to some bowl games in years when they weren't so good. I don't see them going without a fight. 2) Ask the average Joe in Cleveland to name local colleges. I bet quite a few of them would put Can't before Akron. I also suspect that if you asked who had a better athletic program, the responses would be close to even (with Can't possibly winning). They had a pretty good run in BB a few years back and anyone who follows them will know about their successes in sports other than Football. I say this because in observing the local news (TV and Radio) Can't gets a lot of play. UA gets it's fair share as well, much more that what we used to get, but right now I'd call it an even split. Lets face it, our FB team hasn't been very good. We've got good facilities but the reshuffle is going down NOW! We can't wait another 5 years to get good if teams are going to get pushed out in the near future. Even with a shiny new stadium, people want to watch a winnner, and I don't think we really put a scare into any FBS teams at this point.
  18. Right on. I also don't understand why it would be bad for (potentially) 20k+ getting a glimpse of our D-1 diamond that would otherwise not enter the doors. A lot of folks don't even understand that we ARE D-1. This could open up a lot of eyes as well. Yea, agreed. Why is this a bad thing? At least people are doing something to try keep him here! If there is one thing about NE Ohio that drives me crazy is that everyone stands around and says "somebody should do something". Apparently "somebody" lives in another state....
  19. There is a lot of work being done to satisfy the current "Big Donors" but very little work being done to build up the future donors or the die hard fans. I think the AD's immediate concern is paying for the stadium, so going after "Big Donors" is the approach they decided to prioritize. I ask, what is being done to bolster the current hard core fans and develop future hard core fans? I don't think a lot needs to be done to get people excited, this is where UA is dropping the ball.
  20. I'm a lot 34 guy myself. It's free if you are early enough. It's easy to get my myriad of friends to and it's close to the Rifle Range! I have to agree that you guys will probably be OK, but this was a bad way for the athletic dept. to go about it. They know who you guys are, they should be taking care of you guys. Here is how I would have gone about it. Send out the request for the parking passes to all those who had them last year, put a deadline on them and state that spots will be assigned. The lot wouldn't sell out by the deadline....lock it down and give the rest of the spots to the guys with deep pockets. Don't call your biggest fans and break the news to them...save that for last. Don't make a press release about it, they just look worse for doing that! I also agree with the comments that this is a bad way to treat your "Hardcore" fans. A hardcore fan movement is a grassroots thing that evolves into something bigger (ZNO for example!). IMO, on of the top priorities of the athletic dept. is to nurture this grass roots effort into something huge. Instead, what does UA do, they damage it......I just hope there wasn't anyone on the fence that fell off because of this, that would be a shame.
  21. Acutually, I like the Can't State one the best, Miami 2nd and the UA gold 3rd. I have to agree with others, however, that cost probably come into consideration. These Can't, Miami, BSU designs were beautiful but would have cost more than ICS to build. I also have to believe that "Akron University" on the BSU one killed it. I mean, come on, we're in your conference and you can't get our name right?
  22. I wish the young man luck. Let's be honest, he will get more attention at OSU if he makes it. I think he is doing what he feels is best for him and that's what matters. Sure I wish he came to Akron and was successful on and off the field. I give him credit for what I see as him chasing a dream. 5 years from now if he is happy and has no regrets , then he did the right thing. As for a recruiting issue, yes, it should be looked into and if there was wrong doing, nail them. It won't happen for three reasons: 1) It's OSU. Free pass from the Ohio media. 2) They put cash in the NCAA's pocket. 3) If JT did contact this kid, do you really think he is dumb enough to call from his or a dept phone?
  23. Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I really like when the University puts out video's, but for some reason, they don't play very well on my brand new computer. Of course, the commercials that I've had to watch 30 times already come in fine....just not the videos.
  24. 14 point win! What an upset! Way to go!
