  1. Looking at the plans, it is amazing how little space there is at LJ. Did anyone else notice that the baseball field will also eventually get a concession stand? Would it be possible to have the press tower serve a dual role? Maybe it could support seating for the baseball and soccer teams. Then have one concession/bathroom point near the courtyard for all 4 sports. This would give the BB facility that unique feel of the old ballparks jammed into the city AND make it easy for fans of all the sports with the single concession area.
  2. Is it possible to bring in some additional seating for the next game? Move the fences or something? Totally agree that the new soccer stadium needs increased capacity
  3. I thought they were wagon wheels.....
  4. I think the soccer and BB wishes are closer to reality than the FB wish. I would say I have two huge Zip wishes at this point in time. The first is for the rifle team to become a yearly competitor in the NCAA championship match. They have yet to make it to the match as a team, though they continue to be on bubble. I think once they break in, it will break a barrier and team NCAA championship won't be far behind. Very few people realize where this program has been and what the coaching staff has done to get it on their rising path of success. My second wish is to see the Info full late in November at a MAC showdown and one team with a top 25 ranking! The Zips would be the victors! When I say full, I mean turn people away at the gates full! The first game at the Info was great, but last Friday was the same story, different setting.
  5. Will the NCAA's always be at TCU or will they be somewhere else in the future? Newt explained the whole setup for the championships to me and I would really like to go to one.
  6. Well, last nights poor attendance was good in one respect for me and that was to try out different seating areas for next year. To be honest, I think I like where I am in the upper deck. In the lower bowl, though you are close to the action, you can really only see 1/2 the field and concrete isn't nearly as noisy as aluminum when you stomp on it.
  7. I couldn't have said it better myself blue & gold! I don't know if I should be pissed at the MAC for forcing us to play at 8:30 on a friday or thank them for sparing 20,000 people from having a perfect Sat ruined.
  8. There's a college in Youngstown? They have a football team?
  9. We were able to make the trip to the range this past weekend, and there were a LOT of people down there to watch the match....the most I've ever seen. People were actually standing shoulder to shoulder to watch. Quite a few Rifle Alumni were able to make it to the range too, it was a really good weekend. The problem with spectating a rifle match is that there isn't a whole lot to see if you don't have a scope. Regardless, I'm sure it was exciting for the competitiors. This is what happens when you put the football stadium on campus, there are a lot of additional benefits for the other teams. Now that I think if it, maybe it's time to start planning for a "large crowd" at the rifle matches on football weekends. It might not be a bad idea to plan for some additional seating....just clear out the back of the range and bring in additional chairs. Also, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to put cameras at each point and project those to some TV screens so that others could watch. Any idea how much it would cost to put 10 small cameras in??? Might be a nice seinor project for a student on campus. Anyway, the Zips win their own invitational and the scores look to be steadily improving. Newt also seems to be close to nailing down the top team for each gun. Here's the press release, Enjoy!Date: November 7, 2009 Event: Akron Rifle Invitational Akron Rifle Finishes on Top at InvitationalGerevics and Szabo lead Akron to Victory This weekend Akron was host to three other notable Olympic rifle competition teams. Present was The University of the Sciences of Philadelphia, Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. When the smoke cleared, Akron emerged as the dominant team. Coach Newt Engle was very pleased with the team performance, especially since the team had to perform without the assistance of one of their top guns, Sarah Benjamin, who was recovering from the flu. In the smallbore rifle division sophomore Zac Szabo lead the charge and finished alone in the top slot earning the top gun award by firing a 567 out of a possible 600. Ed Ryznar (565) of USP took second and Lucan Wier (559) rounded out the top three. Akron teammates sophomore Ryan Stein and freshman David Brummond tied for the forth slot with like 558,s with Brummond winning the tie breaker. “No doubt about it,” states coach Engle, “we left the door open for Rose to take the lead in smallbore, but thankfully did not take advantage of the opportunity. Although Zac did a good job for us, the fact is we still need to get our smallbore under control. But the Zips did have control of their Air Rifle’s demonstrated by the stellar score of 2316 which ties the school record set in 2007. And again, the squad managed to do this minus one of their best, Sarah Benjamin. Stepping up to the plate and tying her career best performance, junior Beca Gerevics earned the top gun award with an impressive 582. Although earning the top slot was not easy as USP’s Ed Ryznar (582) tied Gerevics with Gerevics wining the tie breaker. Also breaking into the elite 580’s, Akron teammate’s sophomores Ryan Stein and Jenna Compton each fired a 580 with Stein winning the tie breaker. “We continue to be on track with the air rifle,” states coach Engle, “having three people in the 580’s is great, but seeing our top performers gaining consistency is exactly what we need.”Next Saturday the 14th of November, the Zips will travel to Virginia to face off against the fighting Keydets of the Virginia Military Institute. The match will begin at 9am on the VMI shooting range. NewtNote: I am sooo proud. Not of just our team on the range, but the team behind the team. We continue to be the envy of the MAC when it comes to our support. The visiting teams were in awe to the amount of visitors and supporters we had attend this match. From rifle alum giving tours, to UA administrators, friends, fans and a plethora of Zips parents. I can only say the same thing the other teams said, WOW! A special thanks to the Fabijance family who brought enough food to feed the army of competitors and stayed the whole day to assure everyone was satisfied.SMALLBORE....................................AIR RIFLE1 Szabo Zac UA Gold 567.................1 Gerevics Rebecca UA Gold 5822 Ed Ryznar USP-Mx 565................. 2 Ed Ryznar USP-Mx 5823 Weir Lucas RHIT 559.................... 3 Stein Ryan UA Gold 5804 Brummond David UA 558.............. 4 Compton Jenna UA Gold 5805 Stein Ryan UA Gold 558................ 5 Brad Driscoll USP-Mx 5766 Gerevics Rebecca UA Gold 557...... 6 Jones Brittany UA Gold 5747 Brad Driscoll USP-Mx 556.............. 7 Carter Jimmy UA 5738 Nelson Luke UA Gold 556............... 8 Nelson Luke UA Blue 5729 Fabijance Josh UA Blue 554............ 9 Mayhew Edward RHIT 57110 Ashbrook Rebekah UA Blue 553.... 10 Brummond David UA 56711 Dietrich Nicole UA 552................. 11 Weir Lucas RHIT 56612 Telljohann Brian RHIT 552 ...........12 Martin Allisa UA 56413 Carter Jimmy UA 552 ..................13 Butler Tristan UA 56114 Mayhew Edward RHIT 551........... 14 Szabo Zac UA Blue 56115 Adler Derek RHIT 549................. 15 Ashbrook Rebekah UA Blue 55816 Compton Jenna UA 547............... 16 Adler Derek RHIT 55817 Butler Tristan UA Blue 544........... 17 Telljohann Brian RHIT 55518 Courtney Cavalieri USP-Mx 538.... 18 Fabijance Josh UA Blue 55519 Jones Brittany UA Blue 536.......... 19 Dietrich Nicole UA 55020 Martin Allisa UA 533..................... 20 Courtney Cavalieri USP-Mx 54921 Reames Jessica RHIT 515............. 21 Reames Jessica RHIT 54622 Julie Vavreck IUP 514.................. 22 Lee Parker RHIT 54423 Glen Hirsh USP-Mx 509................. 23 Godwin Malhon RHIT 53824 George Yauneridge IUP 505.......... 24 Dimon Katy RHIT 53725 Godwin Malhon RHIT 502.............. 25 Glen Hirsh USP-Mx 52626 Dimon Katy RHIT 492.................. 26 Nicole Churchill USP-Wo 51127 Adler William RHIT 492................ 27 Adler William RHIT 51028 Jake Snyder IUP 484................... 28 Julie Vavreck IUP 50629 Kyle Pruitt IUP 474...................... 29 Josh Steiner IUP 49830 Nicole Churchill USP-Wo 471........ 30 Kyle Pruitt IUP 49531 Josh Steiner IUP 470 ...................31 Carrie Hightman USP-Wo 48632 Summerfield Abram RHIT 466 ..... 32 Carrie Kwok USP-Wo 48033 Allen Whisler USP-Mx 461 ............33 Summerfield Abram RHIT 47834 Tim Wu USP-Mx 447.................... 34 Shaina Kulp USP-Wo 46635 Shaina Kulp USP-Wo 427............. 35 George Yauneridge IUP 46536 Carrie Hightman USP-Wo 424....... 36 Kyle Leath USP-Mx 45837 Olivia Brown USP-Wo 416............. 37 Mike Sanders IUP 41038 Mike Sanders IUP 351.................. 38 Jake Snyder IUP 401Team ResultsUA GOLDSmallbore.......Air.......Total2238.............2316..... 4554RHITSmallbore.......Air.......Total2211.............2236.....4447UA BLUESmallbore.......Air.......Total2187.............2246.....4433USP-MxSmallbore.......Air.......Total2168.............2233.....4401IUPSmallbore.......Air.......Total1977.............1964.....3941USP-WoSmallbore.......Air.......Total1738.............1943.....3681
  10. Well, according to Elton, we will never get more than 21,000 people to an Akron-Can't game.http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...r_things_f.htmlI hate that guy. He is supposed to be a journalist and publishes his subjective observations such as:The view from Infocision isn't that good, all you can see from the top of the press tower is warehouses. Really? Well, that doesn't suprise me as your sitting 100 feet above the 20,000+ paying fans below you and your in AKRON!!! Shouldn't you be watching the football game below you???and now he states that: "2. The 20,802 was a good crowd on a beautiful day. But let's face it. Unless a MAC team can generate some Boise State-type credentials, which seems far-fetched, that's about the limit on November attendance any program can expect. Had both teams been better, it is still unlikely the crowd would have been much bigger"Really? That's it, there is just no support for this team, even though we were what coming into the game....1-7? How many were in attendance the November night of the Akron-Marshall game in 2004? 30,000K? You know what, if it is that much trouble for him to come ot the games, sit in a beautiful new press tower and watch a football game FOR FREE, then don't show up! Hell, the PD just posts OSU crap all over the MAC page anyway.....might as well just do away with the MAC coverage and you can go find a job somewhere else. I'm done with the PD....worthless!
  11. I didn't really know the rivalry until:2003. Huge, HUGE preseason hopes for me! THIS WAS THE BREAKOUT YEAR!!!! I my memory serves me correctly; both Akron and Can't were supposed to contend for the MACC that season. First game of the season for both schools, 27,000 at the Rubber Bowl....the Atmosphere was Electric! Give and take, back and forth all game, it was a battle. It's late in the 4th, Akron seemingly put the dagger in the flushes, scores a TD to go up by 14. Cribbs takes them down the field.....TD. Akron up by 7 , less than 4 minutes left in the game.Akron....3 and out...Cribbs takes them down the field.....TD. Tie game, just over a minute left.....Akron.....3 and out....0:34 left...Cribbs takes them down the field....I'm sitting in the endzone section....Can't lines up, last play, a 40 yd fieldgoal, for the win...Nails it......I know this may sound crazy, I was just a fan sitting in the stands, but it was without a doubt, the single worst sports loss EVER for me. I was devastated, CRUSHED and really, really, REALLY MAD. I think I sat in the stands for like 15 minutes just holding my head in my hands...looking at the ground, how could this have happened!?!?! I was fuming for days after that loss. From that day on....this was THE rivalry for me. From that day to today, I have honestly hoped that Can't would lose every game it plays in every sport for the rest of time.....right there with the Baltimore Ravens. Yesterday, I figure there were a few Can't fans that learned what this Rivalry is about. It's too bad some of you guys haven't had the passion for the Zips to figure it out because there have been SEVERAL times over the past 6 years that I have had the same feeling. The Loss to Can't at the MACC center in 2008 and the Loss to Can't at the Q when I was sitting next to two, ridiculously obnoxious Can't fans who were literally yelling and laughing in my face every score as we laid a huge egg. I really hope that yesterday, we ruined the Golden flushes chance at a bowl.....they deserve the misery.
  12. I'm glad you guys are optimistic about the future......me, not so much. We had the #1 recruiting classes for several years.....what came of that?We won the MAC Championship in 2005 and it has been downhill from there. We have a shiny new stadium and a solid team back that is supposed to contend and we are 2-7Next year we get a new coach and we continue on our 15 year "Rebuilding" process. Here is my prediction:New coach comes in next year and we go 6-6....snubbed for a bowl.2011, we win the MAC East, lose the MACC and go to a bowl....lose the bowl.2012 we win 52013 we win 42014 we win 5 and fire our coach...Start over.Yes, we have a lot of talent, and my experience is that for some reason, the new coach does better with the "Old" coaches recruits here at Akron. JD's biggest coup was keeping Frye here for he seinor year. We were a solid contender for the MAC that season, taking it to the final game against Miami. From there it has been downhill. We have been doing all the right things as far as facilities are concerned. I hope TW can find the man for the job and start building the conference powerhouse. For me, a new coach brings another year or two of "Rebuilding" and there is a chance some of our good guys might go somewhere else in the transition. With that said, I'm behind this team until the end and hope we win out......will the day ever come when it is almost a foregone conclusion in August that we will win the Conference????
  13. Actually, that sounds like a good deal. Only 1.7 million to demolish 20000 seats at the Info and expand the lower bowl for soccer? The hard part will be getting people to go to the Old soccer stadium to watch the football team play!
  14. Not so dirty secret indeed. Everyone should read the book, "The Blind Side". It will be out in movie soon and is about Michael Oher of the Baltimore Ravens and his growing up in Memphis. The lengths to which Mississippi went to in order to keep this kid on the field is mind blowing. There are SEC schools out there that have a tutor attend every class with the player and then meet with the player at night to reinforce the lessons learned that day. A player may have a different tutor for each class. These tutors do not come cheap either. All are earning income from the Athletic Department for these tasks. I wish we had that kind of money. If you guys really want to get the program to the point where they are winning 9-10 games a year, these are the things they need to do. If they don't, 6-7 wins should be normal. I'd love a six win season at this point.Unfortunately, I have to agree that your exampls is what it may take. My experience in observing some of the other athletes over a decade ago is that some will require almost a "full time tutor" to get the grades. It shouldn't be this way, but it is....you need to keep a finger on some people at all times. With that said, I for one am NOT willing to build a program in an unethical manner. As to our current situation, I think that unless we have a serious consideration for a HC on the existing staff, the current regime stays put until the end of the season. I thank JD for his dedication and effort, but at the end of the day, we have made a HUGE investment in this program that must payoff. We are all but at the worst case scenario for the season right now and this program is 100% JD's. From what I know of the guy, success will come his way again.
  15. Thanks for the Video link!
  16. Should we hit the Chat Room??
  17. Just getting in. Score? Heard we just blew a good FG!!
  18. Oh, and one more thing for anyone who was traveling back last night. I'm pretty sure I faintly saw the Northern Lights as we neared Pennsylvania. I've nosed around and they were seen as far south an Harland Michigan (near where I used to live) last night, so I don't think it is out of the question. Anyone else see them?
  19. Well, made my first trip to Buffalo, and unless the Zips and the Bulls are battling for the MAC East in the future, I don't really have a burning desire to go back. The gameWell, I hope you guys who watched the game on TV were happy with the number of media timeouts, because we were freezing our butts off! Starting with Nicely. The guy is the future of the Zips...but he is a True Freshman and we saw a few reasons why yesterday. 2 TO to avoid a delay of game and there were a few times, on short, quick passes, where he just unloaded the ball to his receiver regardless of the coverage. I don't know if it is designed that way, but that is why he tossed the INT in the endzone. Did it a couple times and they very easily could have had 2-3 more pics. He also had what appeared to be a tendency to throw the ball low on short passes to the right. He threw quite a few high balls...ones that would/should have been caught if they were lower....the game killed included. Also, he consistently underthrew his receivers on long balls. I think this is technique and adjusting to the speed of the game at the college level. Other than that, the kid appears to be a great get. He goes through is progressions, isn't phased by the pocket collapsing around him, and makes very good decisions! For example, he took a few sacks but he knew where he was and didn't chuck it away if he thought he would get penalized. Also, he had threw some passes in the right spot, where only his receiver could get them, which I can't remember CJ or MR doing. I'm convinced that he is definately better than Rogers, but maybe ever so slightly worse than CJ at this point. He will be a Star in the MAC in 2 years. As for the running game, Torrence may have butter fingers, but man is he quick to the line and man can he make things happen. I can't remember a player an Akron who gets the ball and pops through a hole in the line so fast! Tuzze is a hard worker, but DeVoe has talent. On one play, I was 100% absolutely sure that DeVoe would be tackled for a loss but he somehow, I don't know how, but somehow skirted around the guy and gained a boatload of yards. If he can keep the ball under control, he will be awesome! As for Tuzze, I love the guy, he is the hammer, doesn't shy away from taking a hit but I think he is paying the price....got up slow a few times yesterday.Too bad to hear about Bowser...I didn't know what happened. In general, not impressed with our receivers. They seem...ehh. I saw a few decent plays, LaFrance seemed pretty good, but also some dropped passes (Bowser) I think the coaching kept the reigns on Nicely but at least they were trying to throw over the middle. I can remember when we did that what, once in a year. It would be nice if we could cultivate a possession receiver and a big play guy. I thought that Bruce would be our posession receiver but I think he had a drop or two yesterday too.....just like last year. What's the deal with the bad snaps? We had what 10 yesterday where it impacted the play either delaying the handoff or reducing Nicely's time to pass the ball. UH!In the first half, our D shut down their run, but they figured out they could pass on us. They obviously made adjustments in the 2nd half because they could pretty much do what they wanted on the ground or through the air. Wagner is a Stud...I love that guy! He is one of the best in the MAC, though he won't be recognized for it. Our DB are short and, as usual, don't appear to look for the ball on deep passes. They just blindly throw their hands up and hope to distract their guy. They will get burned all day on jump balls to the corner of the endzone. I don't know how many 3rd and long conversions they got yesterday....10??? I think our run D is good enough to stop teams in the East, but our pass D is horrible....as least we were able to flush the QB out of the pocket a few times and come up with some big stops! Please tell me why you would run your Freshman QB, who is a great pocket passer, and open him up for some major licks? Didn't we already lose a QB that way this year! If we keep this up, Nicely WILL go down with an injury this year! What is the deal with the rugby punts? The only thing I can think of is they are so short they reduce the chance the other team will break one for a TD. There is NO way we win the field position battle with that strategy. What is the deal with benching our best guys for so long if they make a mistake? It is going to happen, but how long was Torrence out after the fumbled??? I am just underwhelmed with the level of preparation these guys seem to have or their focus on the game. Though I couldn't see it yesterday, during our previous 2 losses at ICS I saw players laughing it up on the sideline as we were losing. Why am I up in the stands pissed as hell that we are losing and focued on every play and the players are on the sidelines horsing around??? Finally, to comment on the facilities. I think they have a great setup for pre-game tailgating. Lots of parking lots and a direct shot to the stadium. Loved that! Oh, and BTW, thanks to Zips Win! for showing us how he works at away games and honestly, CK makes the best home brew I have ever had! Their stadium is bad...I can only compare it to EMU's Ryerson Stadium. I will give them credit that the place is loud....much louder than I expected but it is not a good place to watch a football game. The field is inside a running track and seriously, you could almost fit the entire Infocision Stadium INSIDE of their stadium the seats are so far back. There is NOTHING to see outside the stadium (Like the view at Yeager) and they have large openings between the stands in the endzone. It is very utilitarian in architecture as well. Concrete stands along the sidelines, aluminum and steel in the endzones. Fans were OK, not the best in the MAC and I wouldn't say that we felt welcomed. I do have to say the Wings at Duff's were the best I have had, but not quite what I expected. CK said that is because we got them to go......I'll take his word on that.
  20. Well, made the trip to Buffalo yesterday and I can't say I left mad. I didn't leave happy, but I didn't leave mad. The ref's were horrible, the worst officiating I have seen in a long, long time, maybe ever. I am not, however, blaming them for our loss, that is our fault. They were horrible all around. The worst call was the pass interference call late in the game that was against us!?!?! Can't remember who our WR was, but Nicely threw the ball short and he turned around to get it. The Buffalo guy didn't even turn his head, he kept running straight forward, our WR tried to run back to the ball but was basically blocked by the Buffalo WR. How can it be Interference on us if the other guy doesn't even know where the ball is??? Regardless, the officiating was horrible, and it was horrible both ways. I hope for everyone in the MAC, that those guys never officiate again!
  21. Actually, yes, we did have a gift card. We would have gone there anyway, however, we both like the food and we are on a budget. I'm not much of a food or beverage snob, I like what I like.
  22. So, tonight the wife and I get a chance to go out to eat WITHOUT the kids. This is quite a treat, as some of you are aware. Anyway, we drop the kids off at Grandma's house and head to the Olive Garden. As we walk to our seats, we notice there is a team in our section, all dressed in Red. As we take our seat, I notice on one of their jackets it says "NIU". Immediately I know it is the NIU Soccer team! Well, as a Zips fan, the night before the match I MUST say something. I wait until they are done, all the players leave and then I corner the coaches. I tell them I'm a huge Zips fan, and before I can finish the first thing out of their mouth is "You are a Rowdy aren't you". I say no, I am an alum and as the first Zips fan they will meet on their trip, that I wish them good luck tomorrow. We chat a bit, I tell them they are pretty much our biggest in conference rival and wish them luck...but not enough to win.
  23. I will have to defer to your comments about the scores needed to make the Nationals as I have been out of it for a few years now.....580 it is! They are pretty close in Air. There are definately points there to get in SB however. People should be cleaning at least one prone target a match. For some reason, it's really hard shoot your first 100 in prone in a match, but once you do it, you expect it every time. Also, I am also baffled that we can have such good Air shooters but still post some average offhand scores. They are the exact same thing, except one has recoil! People have a tendency to counter the recoil, even if they don't think they are. You don't realize it until you get a dud and you dive off target. To work on this my last year, I would shoot a lot of air rifle and minimize the amount of Offhand I would shoot. That helped for about my first 12 shots and then my bad habits would come back. As for recruiting...that wasn't really done back when I started, though I think Newt started working on it a few years later.
  24. We'll be going, looks like 4 of us. We're going to try some "real Buffalo wings" and then do some old school tailgating (chairs, beer, food and that's it). It's a day trip for us as the kids will be at the grandparents. More importantly, I get to check another MAC stadium off my list.
  25. Well, we were able to make the trip to the range this past weekend to see the team. Unfortunately we showed up later than we would have liked....kids will do that to you. I didn't get much of a chance to watch the team shoot as we walked in right as John Jay was leaving but the final line was still firing. It was good to talk with Coach, he had some great stories to tell.....he should write a book, seriously. We are lucky to have someone so dedicated to the sport and willing to make due with so little. Anyway, the press release on Gozips.com sums it up. The scores were OK but I think there is room for improvement. Akron took 5 of the top 6 spots in Smallbore and 9 of the Akron shooters were within 10 points of each other which, as I mentioned, is a good thing for inter-team competition. I expect if one of the shooters can consistently bring their scores up, the rest will follow. In air rifle, Akron took the top 6 spots and with the top 4 Akron shooters posting what I think are good scores for this point in the season, better on average than that 575 bogey I look for. For some reason, Akron has always been better in Air Rifle than SB....but it doesn't always translate over to the offhand portion of SM which puzzles me.Rough weekend next week for the team, two matches in two days, one against Morehead State and the other against the defending National Champions. I hate Morehead state, and I think I've told the story here in the past why. I would love to see another Cinderella story with an upset against WVU! BTW, the Match this past Saturday took about 7-1/2 hours to shoot so depending on how many travel....... ...long weekend. Anyway, in addition to the link, here is the press release. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=204811649**************************************************************************************PRESS RELEASEDate: October 10, 2009 Location: The University of AkrnEvent: Akron vs John Jay College of NY Gerevics leads sharpshooters to first home victoryFor the first home rifle match of the season the Akron hotshots lined up against the bloodhounds of John Jay College from New York. The contest landed the Zips a home victory with Akron out distancing John Jay 4527 to 4126.Smallbore rifle placed Akron in three of the top four slots. Junior Rebecca Gerevics was on fire as she led Akron with a 565 of a possible 600. Second and third went to Senior Josh Fabijance (562) and Sophomore Ryan Stein (560). Steve Zawislak of John Jay rounded out the top 4 firing a 560 and loosing the tie breaker to Stein. “We did ok today in smallbore, but today also indicates we have some work ahead of us in smallbore,” states coach Newt Engle. In the air rifle division Gerevics maintained her winning pace with an outstanding 581 out of a possible 600, earning her the top gun award. Right behind her, sophomore Sarah Benjamin (579) and Sophomore Jenna Compton (578) took the next two slots. Senior Josh Fabijance remained in the top 4 with a career best (574). “We continue to post some very impressive air rifle scores,” states Engle, “A little improvement in consistence and with just a couple of more points, and we will be right where we need to be.”Next weekend the Zips will compete in a rare double header. Saturday, Akron will travel to Morehead State University in Kentucky for the first Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference match of the season. Then with a quick turn around, the Zips will act as host to the West Virginia University Mountaineers on Sunday the 18th. These are two tough matches for Akron as MSU has been posting some pretty impressive scores and WVU is the defending NCAA National champions.
