I started typing this earlier, but stopped because I didn't want to curse us.Did anyone notice what the announcer said near the end of the 1st OT, (I think). The one really big homer was saying something to the effect that Akron should be more dominant at this point because they were a man up, yet UNC was basically playing them straight up. There was a long pause and finally the other guy mumbled under his breath that Akron has been the better team all night. UNC was really a good team. Frankly, to my uneducated soccer eyes, they looked better around the goal tonight than we did. I think we are lucky they were a man down and basically fell back into D because if they were at full strength, and go on the attack, I fear we would have been toast. We seemed to control 70% of the field, but they controlled the 30% around their goal and were quick around our goal.

Man, I love that type of excitement! The problem is, we usually blow it and I am depressed. I found myself going into Akron Fan mode and bracing for disappointment. When UNC missed that shot, things were a little brighter, but even when we had the chance to win it at the end, I was convinced we would miss it. NCAAC HERE WE COME!!!!
-
Oh My GOD!!!!!!!!!I have not been that excited since Hixon caught that ball in Detroit! One huge difference, the wife and I were celebrating in silence as our kids just fell asleep. Give that a try!!YYYYEEESSSSSSS!!!!!
-
I see how soccer can be so exciting!! This is great! Come On ZIPS!!!
-
So does UNC stay at 10 men in OT or are they back to full strength?
-
Man, these announcers are down right depressing right now. NO excitement when Akron has the ball what so ever.
-
Nice work Zips fans. You guys are coming in loud and clear! There have to be quite a few there because I don't hear Zips Win yelling.....
-
So obviously Akron will be attacking hard. What does UNC do, do they fall back and defend???
-
What happened???? I was putting the kids to bed.
-
I see the bias now. They get very excited whenever UNC is over midfield and they don't get nearly as excited as when Akron is working near the goal.

At this time, a little over a handful "disagree".7 out of 67 disagree as of 9am today.I think there are a lot of AD's that would KILL for an 89.6% approval rating on a major hire.Ahhh, but are you considering the NE Ohio Fan Factor? This factor is influenced by what everyone else is saying and/or doing, in addition to other things such as the facts fed to you by the media. This factor, also known as "The Bandwagon" allows some persons to fit in, avoid being criticized, and lets other people back them up in the event they are questioned. My experience has been that this gain is generally a large value in this area of the country.

So, what do you think Caleb is telling these guys right now? Is it a normal half conversation or what? I know nothing about Caleb, is he the kind of guy to be chewing these guys out, or is he fine tuning and changing strategy on the sidelines?

There has been at least half-a-dozen references to Akron's "weak schedule" and/or expressions of surprise that Akron is playing so well against ACC competition. They are definitely considering Akron to be the underdog, although as the game goes on they seem to be giving Akron more respect.Well, what did you expect. I mean, our Football team and Basketball teams aren't powers so of course our Soccer teams can't be that good. I hope this team is playing with a chip on their shoulder. Nobody has given us respect this year outside of the MAC, a the Big 10 at the end of the season.

They seem pretty even to me....but I'm watching online which may be better than what is on TV.
-
Zips controlling the ball more, looking for shots whereas UNC seems to be shooting from the hip more.
-
You can reallyhear the Akron fans. Good turnout!

Well done. I am one of those long time season ticket holders who is underwhelmed by this hire. With that said, Dr. Proenza felt that you (TW) were the right man for this job. I trust that you really, truely, deep down feel you did all that is required to hire the absolute best coach for the Zips. It goes without saying that this hire is, IMO, the most important head football coaching hire in the history of this school. It is imperative we have the right man as the shine will be off the Info in just a few years and any advantage this may give us in the MAC will vanish. The decision has been made. I truely hope that coach Ianello is the man to succeed where others have failed. My commitment to this school is unwavering and from this point on, coach Ianello has my support. Go Zips!

OK , who e-mailed Tom and suggested this one?......let's not be shy, fess up! I thought it was a nice gesture to ask the fans for their opinion, but whoever the smart @$$ was that suggested this needs to send TW an e-mail quick! I've been through this 'He's a great recruiter, a real go-getter, give him a chance'' thing before and guess what, we just fired that guy. This is NOT what I expected and I'm not blindly going to back TW on this one. I'm sure he did his due dilligence and his homework, but that doesn't mean he's making the right call. Of course this guy was a great recruiter at Notre Dame, they make movies about Notre Dame football, we make YouTube videos. Hell all he had to do was sit the kid down, pop in "Rudy" and the kid was comitting to ND while whiping away his tears. Why can't we grab a successful coach from a lower division? I'm not very excited about this to be honest. I'm no expert, and I've been wrong pleanty of times before.....let's hope this is one of those times.

+1That is the thing that is lost with that whole situation. People think he just made an amazing catch, what they don't realize is exactly like you said, 30 seconds before he made that catch, he was pukeing his brains out on the sideline!
-
Hell, who cares! If you live outside the city limits you can't get 1350 anyway. Here's a thought, if you want to improve your fan base, then stop letting the MAC office take care of your broadcasting needs and let's get a few radio stations to broadcast the zips in NE Ohio!

Well, for the Tulsa fans outnumbered by what, 4,200 Akron fans, I think the cop did right by cutting them a lot of slack. They made a long drive and though they were obnoxious, you mean the rowdies couldn't drown those two out? Seriously, if they weren't hurting anyone, let them go. It wasn't like they were going to start a riot or anything.

I personally feel that NE Ohio has been starving for a winner for what, the past 50 years? I think this is why OSU is so popular and why TV coverage of local HS football state championships get so much attention. (Did anyone notice how the only "local" HS football team to win, Norwalk St Paul didn't get any TV coverage until all the greater Cleveland schools choked?) My point is that I believe there is a huge market for UA, if we are successful. Sure, soccer isn't that popular here, but if we win it all, there will be a LOT of excitement about this. If Caleb can consistently compete, year in and year out, we will need more than 5000 seats at LJF. Bring it home guys, make us starved Akron fans proud!

I BELIEVE THAT WE.....
