How does the CMU D-Line compare to Penn State and Indiana? I have to believe we have some improvement in our ability to run the ball since Morgan State, but how much? What I'm getting at is we had a hard time running the ball against Morgan State, why would we be successful running it against CMU. If they stack up well when compared to Indiana, then I think this is a bad game plan.I agree with whoever said we give Rogers some quick, short passes. Bowser is such a talent, let him burn some people. Bruce almost filled our posession receiver needs last year, should we give him that roll this year? I also hope to see a few, not a lot of plays geared for Rogers. He seems pretty good at making each handoff look like a keeper, so I think we could burn them once or twice on this. Special teams has GOT go come up big in this game. I am a firm believer in starting field position being key. We've got to pin them deep as much as possible.

Well looks like I will have to drive. I will need to talk to Mrs. Rifle to see if we are willing to make it a 2 day affair and bring the tailgating equipment. 2 little ones at home may dictate a long Saturday. Thanks for the invite CK, at a minimum we'll be there for the game.

Random thoughts, observations & questions...
Zipsrifle replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Football
Well, as long as we're on the topic of random observations...here's one. I realized last Saturday something many of you have been saying on here for a long time.....I just didn't believe it until it happened. It was the fact that Winning is the only thing that matters in the sport of College football. We have a beautiful brand new stadium with a Big 10 team in town and we were favored to win......we laid an egg with attendance. Some people I talked to chalked this up to the OSU effect. I would have been one of those in past seasons, but I have to say that last Saturday ended that for me. I'm not going to blame this on OSU....it isn't their fault they win. Sitting here now, I knew that winning meant a lot, but I really thought that a new stadium on campus would dramatically change things. Things have changed, but not dramatically. So, that's my observation. I still believe that things are going to change....just a little more slowly than I had hoped. I really hope we will see good things in Mt. Pleasant tomorrow. -
I'm wondering if the Athletic Dept still organizes bus trips to the away games. I don't plan on going to CMU (been there before), but in my quest to visit every MAC stadium, I do plan on going to Buffalo this year. We used to drive to the games and tailgate, but with 2 little kids, it becomes too much of a hassle!

F it....here goes.Akron 42, CMU 38Rogers goes Lefevor on CMU and Bowser shows off some more of his sick moves!

I'm going to get torched, and that is fine. We're 3 games into the season, not even to MAC play, and we're ready to fire the coach, start burning redshirts, and stop tailgating because of the cops. I shouldn't be suprised, this is the typical response of people from NE Ohio. I'm not saying I'm happy with yesterday's results, I'm not, but I'm not giving up on this team. Go ahead, labled me as one who "Settles for Mediocrity"! It's not about mediocrity, it's about backing your men! We've got what we've got, we need to make the best of it!First off, are you guys crazy talking about canning the coaching staff at this point in the season? What, are we going to just scrap all of our plans and start anew? Yep, next week we'll be a completely different team......yea, you can make those changes just like that???? I am not happy with the results, but this is what we've got. These guys KNOW they are on the hot seat now, lets see what happens with flames kissing their butts, we might be suprised. CJ made a knuckleheaded move, and I applaud JD for taking a stand at the worst time. In my mind, Rogers is the QB, and we need to roll with it. Yesterday was Rogers first start, and he made the mistakes I frankly expected him to make. News F L A S H.....He will make MORE!!!! He is our "Mobile" QB, but he was fenced in the whole game and had to pass. He's not as good as CJ in this Dept, but he will get better with time. We all thought (well I didn't) a week ago that Rogers was the best player on the team, now we are ready to run him out of town!!! Go ahead, burn Nicely's redshirt, what will you do if he isn't our Brady Quinn?? We just torched a year of learning and probably ran Rogers out of town, smart move??? I hope Rogers continues with the rate of improvement he has shown over the summer. Let Walt work with the kid and we'll see what develops.I could fill the page with rants about what went wrong yesterday. I am just as frustrated as the rest of you. I NEVER leave a game early and I'm not going to check out early this season. We've got what we've got at this point, deal with it. For me, I'm going to do what I do when it's early on and things aren't going your way. You suck it up, grit your teeth, take your beating, and MAKE THE BEST OF IT. Fire away!

Hoo Hoo Hoosiers coming to town to show you wazzup!
Zipsrifle replied to hoohoohoosiers's topic in Akron Zips Football
OK Word just in why CJ is sitting out. Rogers worked really hard this week and got his 40 time down to 2.5 seconds! That's right, he'll be down the field in about 6 seconds! Also, I heard that Allen is beyond 100% and also dropped a second off of his 40 while putting on 40lbs of muscle in the last week! Our O line did some work and JD brought in the NE Patriots D to challenge them. The Zips anahilated them, no problem. On the Defensive side of the ball, Bain has fully recovered from his bad back and was the only guy who could get to Rogers. He managed to pick up 3 D-lineman and while carrying them chased down Rogers to tackle him! Dude, isn't it amazing what a big difference a week of hard work makes!!! -
I hear ya!!

Per the Indiana Rivals board, IU sent back their ticket allotment to Akron -- after selling only 450 tickets! Hopefully they are buying them locally, because that might be fewer visiting fans than Morgan State had! How pathetic is the fan following of this opponent that says it's "of the quality of the Big Conference That Can't Count"? You know, the Big 10 could fix their logo if they just kicked Indiana or Northwestern out. Then the MAC would have someone to fill our spot when we leave.

Hoo Hoo Hoosiers coming to town to show you wazzup!
Zipsrifle replied to hoohoohoosiers's topic in Akron Zips Football
Why would you want to unleash your hidden talent against Akron if this is going to be such an easy win? Wouldn't you want to squeak out a win this week to lull the Wolverines to sleep and then let them have it? Especially at The Big House? That would really make for a coming out party. -
Give me a break. Seriously, the guy was trying to make a point, no reason to get bent out of shape over it.

Akron: 27Indiana: 24

A win on Saturday will bring more in. A win Next Saturday will bring even MORE in. Bottom line...win and they will come!

Infocision founder in hospital
Zipsrifle replied to UADavid's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Terrible news.... I hope he gets well soon!! -
Thanks I was looking forward to making that for a year and a half, and now that the Info has a life of it's own, it just doesn't seem as exciting to watch it as I thought it would. Also, I tried using faster music, but it just didn't seem to fit something so paced and methodical.I think it was perfect, the music selection and all. A lot has happened for me in the time since we were all running around trying to find whatever we could about the stadium. I see those first pictures and it takes me back....seems so long ago! Still can't believe it's ours! YOU should go post this on the "Stadium Cams are Live thread!"
-
YEA, WE FOUND THAT ONE TOO!!! Couldn't bring myself to throw the guy under the bus! AWESOME!!
-
I predict the final score will be..... displayed on the scoreboard at the Info. Too close to call, pulling for the Zips. Hope Shane and JD figure out how to run and Bain has his coming out party!!
-
Good sign, shows the team that people approve of what they are doing...a confidence booster. I won't make any predictions on the score but I expect a hard faught game. Hope there is a good home crowd!!!

+1We've got a new stadium and paid a LOT of money for it. Forget Browns Stadium.....

Just reviewing the Game Tracker from the WMU game, sounds like the score is a bit deceiving. WMU played catch up late in the game and IU seemed to have several long drives. This is a hard one to judge. Comparing performances to the teams we've played doesn't give me much indication of how this one will tee up. WMU lost to a better than expected UofM, while we lost to what could be the Big 10 Champ. IU had a hard time in their first game so is WMU that much worse than everyone expected and is Morgan State worse than what everyone expected. Here are some considerations:1) Our D has been stout, I expect this to continue. If Bain is as advertised, IU won't be scoring much.2) We couldn't run up the middle against MORGAN STATE!!! 3) CJ didn't have time to pass against PSU. He locks into his receiver....I think he tosses a few INT's this weekend. 4) IU couldn't run against Eastern Kentucky, but had a balanced attack against WMU. I think we see our backfield get tested a LOT on Saturday.5) IU held WMU to 22 yards on the ground, EKU had 100.6) IU gave up 266 yards to WM through the air and 278 to EKU.Just looking at these stats, I think we will see a LOT of passing on Saturday. I'm hoping our running game finds some life. Don't know, should be a battle!

I don't think it will be a sellout and I don't think UA has done a good job pushing the game. Seems to me that they had to push REALLY hard to get those last 3000 tickets sold for last weekend. My guess is that they figure a Big 10 team coming to town would sell itself, but I think there is a bit of the Info Opening Day hangover going on and also the overshadowing from the game in Cleveland on Saturday. I hope to see a big push starting tomorrow.... IT would be embarrasing to see a game of this magnitude ignored by so many. I hope we win.

So last night while I'm watching the 10:00 news, waiting for the report on the Info, I hear about every 45 seconds about the Ohio State game. I couldn't watch the game because I have cable. As I cruise the internet looking for the breaking news reports on the first game at the Info, again, I am pummeled by what seems to be play by play updates from Columbus. I head to bed, weary from an amazing day yesterday. This morning, I get up, eat breakfast, play with the kids, surf the net for some more stuff on the Info all with the TV on. I just realized that in 2 hours, I haven't heard ANYTHING about OSU. I assume they lost because, obviously, we are all behind them 100%, until they lose, and then we just shut up and act like "What, there was a football game in Columbus Yesterday?" Hey, the first game at the Info will get more notice this way...
