  1. I received a call from a friend in Delaware who is a big University of Delaware Blue Hen fan. He said that Sean Hakes had visited campus this weekend and gave a verbal to UD. for the fall. Sean will be competing against Rob S (can remember the last name) the EX-OSU QB for the starting job. Best of luck to Sean as he competes and tries to lead UD back to the National Championship game.
  2. Anyone ever wonder what our backfield would look like with EJ in the mix? He was orig. a grey shirt commit to UA and then signed with Can't when they offered him a scholarship prior to signing day.
  3. LeBron James, Nike and the University of Akron men's basketball program reached an agreement on a three-year contract, the university announced Wednesday. The Zips men's basketball team will wear Nike apparrel, including shoes, game uniforms, warmups. All accessories will all be licensed under the Nike and LeBron James ''LJ23'' Trademarks. The rest of the UA athletic program is under contract with Adidas through 2013.''I'm from Akron and the University of Akron is my hometown school,'' James said in a statement. ''Because of my ties to the Akron community, the University and coach Keith Dambrot it is important to me that UA is designated as a Nike/LeBron James LJ23 School. I want to be sure that coach Dambrot's guys look great head to toe.''
  4. Chris Barton of Walsh Jesuit and Dominic Moore of Firestone are among the eight recruits signed by the nationally ranked University of Akron men's soccer team.Barton, a midfielder, was a 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American and Division II state player of the year.Moore, a defender, was second-team all-state as a senior, a two-time all-district selection and a three-time All-City Series pick. The class also includes three players who have been members of national youth teams: defender Kofi Sarkodie of Huber Heights; forward Teal Bunbury of Prior Lake, Minn.; and forward Darlington Nagbe, of Lakewood St. Edward.Other signees are midfielder Ryan Greenhill of Solon, a first-team all-state selection; forward Thomas Schmitt of Berea, who scored 70 goals in his career; and goalkeeper James McCormick of Winter Park, Fla., who had 29 career shutouts.''Once again, we have been fortunate to attract the top national talent and it bodes well for the future of Akron soccer,'' UA coach Caleb Porter said. ''This group should make their presence felt immediately, complimenting our current players while bolstering certain aspects of our team.''In 2007, the Zips won their fifth Mid-American Conference Tournament title on their way to being seeded 14th in the NCAA Tournament. The Zips open the 2008 season at the Indiana University Classic with games Aug. 29 against Notre Dame and Aug. 21 against the host Hoosiers
  5. Word on campus is that the 09 recruiting is well underway. My friend heard that Caleb received 2 verbals from National Team members for 09. One being the goalie who is ranked as the #1 goalie in the country and the other is the brother of someone who played at Wake and is currently on the LA Galaxy. I apologize as I can not remember the names, but will have to do a bit of research and post later.
  6. I heard a strong rumor from someone that knows that in the last 24 hours the Zips have lost 2 verbals from Captains list. The other name I am hearing is Gardner (Colorado State). The media press conference is scheduled for 3 p.m.
  7. Yeah, honestly. What was that all about?Poor Lee.. someone has ate way to many lemons and became bitter. Maybe you can go over to the Ashland board, they just broke out some new plans for a new stadium complex. That way you could double down and complain about 2 complexes being built.
  8. It's the same reason why all they do is drink in Athens...there's nothing else to do thereOhio U has huge theme weekends during basketball season. Dads weekend was a couple weeks ago and Sibs weekend coming up. They had 10,000 I heard show up during Dads Weekend for the game against Ball State. The students do support the team but if you have 2 home games with over 10,000 at each of those games, that will def. add to your overall attendance #.
  9. A couple JUCO WR's and DB's have a visit and the sky is falling? I don't get it?Hell yes we should be bringing in some JUCO WR's. You want to go into 2008 with Fuqua, Williams and Sandilands as #1, #2 and #3? Those JUCO's visiting are some great players. And we need some great players if we're going to have an offense that can move the ball in 2008. Are Freshman really less risky to pursue than JUCO's? Ask David Harvey and Jermaine Lindsay. And, if we can get an experienced DB to soften the blow of Corner and Tate leaving, all the better. In the end, we'll have a least 80% of the 2008 recruiting class entering as Freshman. That's fine.I would agree w/ Captain. You bring a few 2-4 Star JUCOs in and suddenly the sky is falling and the end is near. Several of you are always screaming we need great players and need immediate impact players. Well, here you go.. I would be concerned if it was 80% JUCO and 20% freshman, which I don't think is going to be the case...thus the sky is not falling. Word is that the Janaury 18th weekend is the big recruiting weekend in terms of 15-20 players on campus for a vist.
  10. 3 and 4 stars from California???!! ya...they'll come to Akron alright??Good question? Why would they not come to UA LAdams?
  11. I have not heard anything about a Michigan State visit, but I did hear from a good source that Boise State was scheduled either last weekend or this weekend..
  12. I will give you Temple and Buffalo are 2 games we SHOULD have won. Please explain when BG became a bottom feeder???
  13. Finally a TD pass to the TE! Looking good right now... nice sack..
  14. I know it has been mentioned before, but this schedule is the worst if not the worst in the past 10 years. I am going to guess 6,000 or so in total attendance with the weather factor. OU usually travels well, but a Weds. night game with a so-so OU team will probably keep their fan base at home and watching on tv.
  15. The main problem was Domonkos was MISSING Class and violated an athletic department policy reharding class attendance. I believe he kind of forced himself out of the program, not JD. Amazing how some of you just make wild statements with no fact whatsoever, and throw it out there and hope something sticks. Insane.
  16. According to a campus source, unless a miracle happens David Harvey will not be back on the field this fall (academics). In addition, Jermaine Lindsay likely is finished at UA due to academics. There goes the depth on the WR chart.
  17. Hartwick is not exactly a joke of a program and not a bad choice with the limited options the MAC was facing...22 NCAA D1 tourney appearances7 Final Four Appearances...I am not sure I would assume an easy W in the win column.
  18. I know a previous thread discussed LJ was considering transfering from UC to UA for hoops. A campus source told me he is def coming and committed to coming to play hoops for KD. He will be enrolled for classes this fall.
  19. Here is a quick list a friend told me on the phone today. I don't have the postions but I think the nation will recognize a few of the names from official visits. Zachary Campbell Kade Wagner Cowles Stewart Brigham VanEtten Jayson Keyser
  20. I would suggest you post your e-mail and his response, so maybe some others from the zips nation can craft some e-mails or make some calls based on the info he provided.
  21. Aaron Alford (DB Coach) has accepted a position at the University of Utah! All the best to Aaron and his family.
  22. Before you start calling people liars... you might want to check your facts....OU is NOW OPEN ADMISSIONS! I know people that work in the field of Admissions at OU... they have told me THAT MCDAVIS asked them to admit everyone the past 2 years. My understanding this was a definite change in policy from the Glidden years. Why would people from the OU Admissions Office lie? The Presidents plan was to increase enrollment, and reduce the deficit by having more bodies. However, I don't believe OU has dumbed down classes, so thus you end up hurting your retention rate and academic reputation. Football not over budget huh? Hmmmm... Not what I heard from some other OU friends. Sounds like you are buying into the Kirby spin. I have heard some first rate overspending stories from friends connected. Frank seems to think he has the Nebraska budget and not the OU budget. In regards to the deficit, interesting view. I have heard nothing of the sort of Akron facing a deficit of 11 million or higher then a few million based on projections. I would agree that ALL Ohio MAC schools are getting hurt in funding from the state. There is some hope with Strickland, but the problem is with the legislators in Columbus, idiots as a whole from both side of the aisle.
  23. I didn't check their schedule.. that was a quote from a friend of mine who is an OU Alum....
  24. Poor OU fan... Things are not going well in Athens all around...* OU is in the hole $ 11 million next year* The football team went over budget and they had to drop 4 sports* Their president made the school open admissions, so the academic superior arguement now can not be used by bobcat fan* A few scandals involving the football team thrown in regarding discipline.* Basketball team is now choking on a regular basis* Also got blown out by arch rival Miami in basketballIs there any wonder they are spinning in their tracks and attacking one another on their board.
  25. Interesting chart I came across on a MAC related site. MAC coaches I believe have the lowest $$ in D 1. The bottom line reflects total salary not counting the maximum bonusSchool Coach Salary Other Income Maximum Bonus Total Toledo Tom Amstutz $185,000 $191,400 $212,000 $376,400 Ohio Frank Solich 249,672 12,500 162,400 262,172 Northern Illinois Joe Novak 212,496 -0- -0- 212,496 Akron JD Brookhart 182,500 25,000 17,500 207,500 Western Michigan Bill Cubit 165,000 23,000 21,450 188,000 Central Michigan Brian Kelly 159,397 25,500 14,500 184,897 Buffalo Turner Gill 180,000 3,000 87,500 183,000 Ball State Brady Hoke 132,970 26,250 -0- 159,220 Eastern Michigan Jeff Genyk 141,442 13,000 10,000 154,442 Can't State Doug Martin 150,200 -0- 42,000 150,200 Bowling Green Gregg Brandon 130,000 20,000 50,000 150,000 Miami Shane Montgomery 127,500 12,000 27,409 139,500
