I just don't see YSU as a big challenge. I think the Zips hammer them 88-72.

Wrong Loyola. The team we beat tonight plays in the West Coast Conference (Loyola Marymount). There is a Loyola(Il) that plays in the Horizon.

Zips favored by 16 over Loyola Marymount
Zips fan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Looks like they could double the line and the Zips would still cover. Zips 70-32 with eight minutes to go. WOW!!! -
Congrats to the Wolfpack on a hard fought win. The Zips showed they can play with a top 20 team. The free throws did hurt, but a much better showing this year against Nevada.
-
Zips within 1pt and 3 minutes to go. Lets go Zips!!
-
10 minutes to go and we got the lead. What a great game by Joyce so far. It is great to see the Zips hanging in there on the boards. GO ZIPS!!
-
Zips are up with a 15-3 second half run 48-44. Come on Zips!!

I think this has more to do with the NCAA allowing I-A to add a twelveth game. The Zips need another home game as we only had 4 home games at the time. Also, NCAA rules state you must have five home games.I think the Zips should consider getting Pitt on the schedule. They might not be inclined to return the games as Pitt has struggled at MAC stadiums. Akron has had success in recruiting WPA and it would be good to showcase to play Pitt.

I don't see YSU travelling 10K for any game. They only average 14K for home games. Why would the media in Cleveland or Pittsburgh care about an Akron-YSU game. Pitt media will care when we beat Syracuse because they are big east and Cleveland media will care when we beat Indiana because they are big ten. We are not going get where we want to be by playing down a division. If we are stuck, fine schedule a I-AA, but forget about a planned series, no less travelling.

I actually don't mind eguin. He has his opinions and doesn't seem to be rude. I don't agree with much of what he is saying. I think that the idea of a I-A school traveling to a I-AA is never going to happen. I think that Akron is better served not playing I-AA's unless a last resort. I think that DI-A Non-BCS schools were 28-2 last year against I-AA's and there is a large difference in talent. The Zips haven't played YSU in over a decade and see no need to play them. YSU averaged 14,545 people last year for games. This game would not excite the Akron fanbase and attendance would be average. Lets get NC State here! We have Army, Syracuse, and Indiana coming, what does a game against YSU do for Akron.
-
Eguins, I found only two examples of any MAC school playing YSU in the last decade at your place. (1997 Buffalo and 1997 Can't). I respect the fact that YSU is a national force at the I-AA level and Mount Union is a national force at DIII, but there is difference between the divisions. The last times the Zips have paid a DI-AA school to come in have been blowouts. (2003 Akron 45 Cal Poly 14 (they were nationally ranked at the time), Akron 65 Howard 7 (we had our subs in the 2nd quarter), and 2002 Akron 49 Liberty 21. I am not saying your team is not good, but I-A's don't travel to I-AA's. I don't care if we play any I-AA team ever again, but to ask Akron to do something no other I-A school is expected to do is crazy. The Zips don't need the road game and will be better off doing home-away series with other I-A confereces.
-
Akron is Division I-A and YSU is Division I-AA and there is a big difference. When was the last time any Division I-A school played at a I-AA?
-
Eguins, can you point to any examples of a I-A school playing at a I-AA school? I can't think of any but I don't follow I-AA that close. I am not in favor of scheduling I-AA schools unless a last resort. Last year we pulled in North Texas and that was a good fit for an easier win. I would rather play see the MAC set up a deal with C-USA or the Sun Belt for a series. If we win against a I-AA, we were supposed to-if we lose, big embarrassment. How about East Carolina, Memphis, Marshall, Middle Tennesse, FIU or UCF, I think these schools would be better fits.

Our RPI took a 20 spot dive with a win over WS. Our strength of schedule is 330 out of 336. I like the fact that we are 6-1 but we have to pass alot of schools to get into the conversation of at large bid. Keep winning right now, it is all we can do.We are 181 right now. Toledo at 2-5 in 94th.
-
From what I can find, I-AA schools went 2-28 against non-BCS schools this season. They had a win against Ball State and New Mexico. This is pretty typical over the last couple of years. I will continue to root for YSU in the playoffs each season and hope they can get another national title, just like I root for Mount Union to win the DIII title. Akron is the only D-IA school I will cheer.
-
I was home rooting for YSU. I thought App State played a great game. If you put Zips squad in there, I am going to guess Akron 31 App State 17. I am not trying to disrespect the Penguins, but point out the Zips are stronger than the best on I-AA.

UA vs. Winston-Salem Game Predictions
Zips fan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Unfortunately, the Zips will probably drop some spots in the RPI with a win against the 1-11 Winston-Salem team. The Zips are at 162 and WS is 309, with our SOS being 319. The only thing the Zips can do to help themselves is win these games, but with a weak schedule our RPI number is not rising. Zips 84 WS-56 -
GO GATORS!! I think Urban is a great coach and is going to get the job done. Beating OSU, regardless of national champs or not, will be huge; hence, GO GATORS.
-
I have not lost faith. This team is talented and will be fighting to finish the season .500. I think the Zips have done a great job of playing well at home and they will come to play.Zips 24WMU 21GO ZIPS!!

I am happy to see the win because of RPI, but the game does worry me. I know that some teams stumble out of the blocks and that might be the case for Kansas or maybe Oral Roberts is that good. Either way the Zips need to play more teams of this caliber and higher.

I have watched the UT/BSU and MU/BGSU the last two nights and I am so sick of OSU/UM talk. First off, they aren't in the MAC so I really don't care about the game. I know that those teams are rivals and there are alot of fans for them, but how about paying attention to the teams actually playing. I don't care who wins between those two teams this weekend, but I can't wait for the media blitz to be over. Let go "end of game"!
-
SGM, I hope you are right but that seems pretty optimistic. The MAC is so balanced and it is hard to run through without some trouble along the way.I think we go 10-3 on our OOC schedule with loses to Texas Tech, Nevada, and one we should have won.I think we go 12-4 on our MAC schedule with loses to teams we don't expect to beat us.Heading into the MAC tournament 22-7, then we take three to win out the tournament.I would be thrilled with a 25-7 record heading into the NCAA tournament.GO ZIPS!!

Nice win for the Zips! We extended our winning streak to 8 against the Bulls. Nice to see Kennedy rush for over 100 again. Walker finishing with 43 is also a nice sign for our depth. One game at a time now. Ohio is next!

According to ESPN, we are the most penalized team in the country. I can't believe we have nine more penalties this game. Ironically, we are slighlty below our average.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/sortables?st...r=2006&group=80

Time to see what CJ can do! Let's see what our future will be.
