Zipboy, Thanks for taking the time look up these stats. It is interesting and does paint an accurate picture of player retention within the MAC.

What you have been told is not correct. The University of Akron athletic budget has increased each year and is not the smallest in the MAC or I-A. The academic support services for student athletes has seen a lot of turnover in the last five years but is a solid program. Many of the recruits that are not eligible, were never eligible. The came to The University of Akron as non-qualifiers(not academically eligible out of high school for NCAA DI athletics) and were never able to achieve the necessary grades at the university level. JD has gambled on some very talented athletes with questionable grades. It is not the athletics departments fault, nor JD's that they are not eligible. It is the student-athlete that was given an opportunity but unable to achieve the required grades. The department and coaches follow up on athletes but they can't take their tests. The student-athletes have to be willing to work for their grades and some are not interested.

Y-town paper NEOUCOM/Cleveland opinion
Zips fan replied to ZippyRulz's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Great article! It really hits on some very good points. The school serves its mission, does not overlap with other programs in Ohio's educational system, and helps attract bright minds to the area. Why does it have to change or move? Are regional politics appealling strictly to the largest voting city or to what is best for the area? I am interested to see the proposed changes when they come out soon. -
I am thrilled that the suckeyes lost but I do want the MAC to do well in OCC games for B-Ball. I know its Can't but the better the MAC does OCC the more respect our conference will get as a whole.

Mentally Deficient Bob Kitten Fans Say
Zips fan replied to Baltimore Bobcat's topic in Akron Zips Football
The illegal hit knocked our return guy out for the game. The OU player might have made a mistake and not an intentional hit but the result is the same. I agree with Brookhart for going crazy about the play. At worse, it gets the team to know he will back them, becomes a rallying point, and influences the refs to feel they should do more. -
Here is a link to the Buffalo radio feed. You have to sign up for an account but it is coming in clear.http://www.wgr550.com/

I agree that most ideas regarding change sound negative right now, but I think that Akron does have a chance to be the dominate university of Northeast Ohio. I think the first step is bring NEOCOM into The University of Akron, similiar to the merger Toledo did two years ago. Allow Can't to take NEOCOM's campus and create a branch or community college with the existing campus. Next reduce Cleveland State to a joint run branch for Akron and Can't. They could allow the first two years toward a degree in Cleveland but students would finish their degrees on the main campuses of Akron or Can't. This would increase enrollment at both schools and expand the ability for research for Akron(med school).
-
Where are you seeing this in the report? I looked through some of the documents and saw information about joint purchasing of electric and printing, joint internships, and a single application, but nothing about a potential merger. I don't see anyway a merger could be done with the Akron and CSU.
-
These rankings usually consider issues like admission standards and alumni giving. The University of Akron is an open enrollment school and will not be able to move up from Tier 4 on the US News and World Reports list. Their standards do not look at the academic programs but generic formulas regarding areas that an open enrollment school will struggle to compete with schools selective admission standards.

The top four teams in the East are very close. I think that the Zips are capable of winning the whole thing but four of the top five teams this year reside in the East. There will be some tough games during East round robin play.
-
I believe the reason for a possible merger between the schools is to eliminate CSU. I think that The Univeristy of Akron would receive a portion of their funding but the majority would go to OSU. I think when Fingerhut's process is complete the only school that will really see a positive change is OSU.
-
Just a wild guess with no true knowledge of the situation, here is my guess for The University of Akron. Fingerhut will announce a merger between the The University of Akron and Cleveland State University with all students eventually moving to the Akron campus. The Cleveland State University campus will become the location for NEOUCOM in Cleveland. I think that the talk of a medical school moving to Cleveland is to appease the people when they lose CSU. Just a guess.

Zippy Wins! I voted this morning and we are going against Southern Miss. I didn't see the total from last week but did see we are now 4-0. Keep it up Zips!!
-
How can you put OU ahead of Buffalo? The Bulls just blew them out this weekend. Toledo at #8 is crazy. They struggled with Liberty this weekend and have been getting blown out by fellow MAC schools. If you are trying to rank teams, you have to give some credit to the Zips. The beat WMU on the road and you rank the Zips two spots below them? EMU is playing better than 11th as they beat Toledo earlier and gave Michigan a solid game this weekend.
-
Outstanding job BJ for putting our hometown team first. Will this trend continue when we win next week or is it front page news because of a loss? Who cares for now-they are acknowledge that we exist and that is at least a step in the right direction.GO ZIPS!!!

Just added my vote add 2:50 and Zippy is winning by a very smaller margin.
-
At 9:00 AM, Zippy is leading his race with the HokieBird and the third overall vote getter behind Southern Miss and BYU.

I clicked on the Beacon to see the write up on the game. They have a section with photos from the game which I thought was pretty cool. Unfortunately, the photos are of IU successes (IU catch, IU run, IU tackle). I know it has been said before but this paper gives our program no respect.http://www.ohio.com/sports/9806602.html

I never implied anywhere to be cheap to anyone. Your reading skills are really lacking if you are inferring this information from my posts. Again, if a server is wearing Zips clothing and you want to show your appreciation, show them a strong tip.
-
I will refer back to my original post when this started. Reward your server if they are wearing Zips stuff. No need to be punitive if they are wearing something else. If you want to send a message to your server that their Akron attire is appreciated, show them by giving a strong tip.
-
I noticed that people were commenting on the attire of servers at several establishments this past weekend. Servers make the majority of their money on tips and wearing that ugly red and silver probably helps their bottom line. I hope servers who were their Blue and Gold are rewarded for their decision. Let's go Zips!!!

I know that our 2009 schedule will have Kentucky and Indiana visiting. The other two slots, I don't know if we have confirmed opponents yet. I would not mind if it was YSU for one of them. UK and IU are not garaunteed wins. We could use at least one game a year that we are supposed to win at home and can try different players out. In football, strength of schedule does not matter as much for bowl bids.
-
Let's go Seahawks!!! I have no problem cheering for the Seahawks if Charlie gets a chance to play.
-
If The University of Akron does pull the upset, what will the headline in the Beacon read?Something to the effect Akron wins or something to the effect OSU upset by Zips. I guess I am asking who would get named first. Would the paper cover it from an Akron perspective about our win or an OSU perspective about the upset?

I don't agree with this statement. Who ever heard of App State before Saturday? They were a blip on the screen with back to back national titles. If App State goes .500 for the rest of the year no one will know, if they win another national title I will see it scroll along the bottom of my screen on the ESPN ticker. That win will help them out more than another national title. With this in mind, I still would take a MAC title over the upset. It is two nationally televised games and the last title was awesome. I would love to go up to Detroit again!
