  1. I hope it is Pitt. I think it would be good to start building a rivalry with them in both hoops & football. They're close .. and it beats the heck out of playing Duquesne (no disrespect to the Dukes).
  2. Radio spots on 106.5 yesterday also.
  3. Jimmy was ruled ineligible due to transcript malfunctions .. so he has 3 years. He could regain the 4th season by graduating in May of '09, but by then he'll be in the NBA. Fear the Roo? Maybe ... Fear the Jimmy? Absolutely.
  4. Well he's listed on the roster as of today .. and is claimed to be a member of the National Honors Society. Are we talking about the same guy?
  5. Anyone have an update on Curtis Brown?A brief google revealed the following news story from 22 July that indicated he was expected to make a full recovery .. some of his friends not being so lucky.Curtis Brown - 22 July UpdateAny word on his current health & whether he'll be in Akron this fall? Thanks.
  6. Come to think of it .. I'm surprised Z-P isn't ticked it isn't still called Buchtel College like when he was our age.
  7. What he said.
  8. I have it saved in PDF somewhere around here .. so that we can resurrect it at a later date.I remember the lineup they had:LeBron and 4 other guys.
  9. Sounds great. I'll spend your $500 on my flight to the Final Four!
  10. Saying the competition is as good means the teams are as evenly matched .. it says nothing about talent level. But that's fine. But the context of your original statment ... .. indicated that #1 meant "ranked #1" which Lolla's boys were .. not "champion", which they weren't. That's fine .. misinterpretation on my part .. I guess.. Sounds great to me. I'll put $50 on that. Does it stand for the whole 5? What happens when the Zips get there twice?
  11. Ummmm ..... Yeah .... I think you need to go back and reread the Capn's post. Nowhere in his post does he talk about the MAC having more talent than the Big 10. That's too bad .. you must be in extremely poor health or advanced age .. or of little or no faith. Sucks for you.Point of order though .. we weren't really discussing winning a title .. you stated "ranked #1" .. that's not necessarily challenging for a title .. if the TV networks bar you from the games (ie BCS) .. you can't really challenge for the title on the field. Game ON! and I would remind you that they dispatched of the clear favorite to win it all .. and the team that most would agree had the most talent going into the tournament, borne out by the number of draftees in the last NBA draft .. UConn. GMU didn't stumble in .. back in .. or get lucky .. they went out, defended as a team .. busted their asses .. and got it DONE. No one here is telling you it will happen every year .. but if you want to revisit your odds on a 3 year bet (one more of your so-called "mid-majors" in the Final 4 in the next 3 seasons) .. I'm sure you'll get more than one taker here.Norm Abram would tell you to:Read twice & reply once.Go Zips!
  12. No personal disrespect intended, but I think your arguments are rubbish. To think that I didn't attend UA .. and you did .. our difference of opinion astounds me. I studied .. er .. spent time at a Big East (UConn) and Big Ten (Purdue) school. I watched hoops from the front row in those conferences for 7 years. In the 8 seasons I've been back in NEOH and owned season tix at the JAR, the basketball night in and night out is more entertaining and competitive than what I witnessed at Gampel Pavilion or Mackey Arena. Now there have been years when the Zips themselves wouldn't stand a chance against UC or PU, but the conference is more evenly matched and more entertaining than the BCS schools. The BCS teams all too often are just posing for the next level. Not too much urgency in playing defense or playing as a team. Not so in the MAC .. urgency reigns. Go to a Big East BB Tournament and then the MAC Tournament and then tell me which was more similar to the intensity of an NCAA game. The MAC title game in Detroit last year was one of the most exciting games I've witnessed in person. Second place? Suckeye's beat Boilers @ Ross-Ade on the bomb late in the game. MAC / BCS .. both great games. In the MAC, you also are looking (for the most part) at STUDENT athletes. That's worth something to me anyway. I live just about as close to Pitt as I do OSU .. should I be a Panther fan? My sig sums up my sentiment to your comment. What the Captain said. In hoops we will. 10 years ago you would have said you'd never see a non-BCS school in the Final Four .. and the Colonial got it done this year. Gonzaga's been regularly in the top 10 over the past few years. It's bound to happen one of these days. After Laranaga broke down the door this year .. it's on! The kids being recruited to fight for playing time at a BCS school now see they can conquer all at a school like GMU. You only need 2 or 3 studs and a roster full of athletes and good defensive depth .. 13 guys. It'll get done .. and it might as well be Akron. You're selling a whole lot of hardworking coaches and players short with that sentiment. Give Keith some time. We're only heading into year 3.
  13. The PD (and Channel 3) had some talk about this around media day. Specific conversations surrounding how it would have affected the Zips' game winning drive @ NIU. Sounds like there will be late game adjustments on timeout consumption. Coaches weren't thrilled with the changes.
  14. What he said ... and furthermore:You can't spell "Buckeyes" without S U C KGo Zips!
  15. Channel 3 covered this on the 11PM news last night also. Not a huge story, but they devoted about as much time to the Zips (w/ a JD interview) as they did to the Suckeyes w/ a Tressel interview. On segment I know, but it was a nice start.
  16. What you said.
  17. He'll end up a 4 star WR for an ACC school before this is all over.
  18. Good question. I'll look into it shortly. Not sure what the deal with that is.
  19. Luke had a good season last year. The team under his direction won a championship .. that speaks for itself. And he absolutely destroyed NIU and Memphis with his arm.I think Luke could have a great year this season if he does one main thing better than last season: look for, and hit the outlet guy in the flat, be it a flanker or the back out of the backfield. Several times last season drives imploded on 3rd & medium and 3rd & long when the protection was adequate and he held the ball looking downfield. All the while a guy was lingering to his right in the flat with an open shot at the first down. This almost doomed them against BG.He does that .. and it could be a great year for him & the zips.
  20. Extremely well put, GP. You giving any seminars on cutting through the BS anytime soon? There's lots of folks that could use it. I'm guessing you're not an HR guy or ISO compliance officer.GP & Balki are skyrocketing on my ZN.O most eloquent posters rankings.
  21. Why not just wait ten minutes before a game, find a scalper who has poor inventory control with about 25 tickets in his hand, offer him $25 each for a ticket and buy one? If you are willing to sit in a piss poor seat, you can get into any OSU game or any other game for a cheap price. In lieu of an OSU game, why not just buy season tickets to Akron (or whatever MAC school you are from), sit on the 50 yard line near the field and enjoy a good football game? Which reminds me, season ticket notices came in the mail today. Buy early, buy often...... I second GP's sentiments. What he said.Free public service translation from my post above: "suckeye game" = (is the same as) "OSU game"Regarding tickets .. and yes, even Columbus St. tickets .. I've tried to get them, and always get them .. at my price .. for big games also. The hard part is NEVER getting in the building .. it's holding down my lunch and beverages as 100k sheep practice spelling the 4 letter state name. Almost as entertaining as the identity crisis cheers at Penn St.
  22. I've never had the experience of not being able to get a ticket to an event I wanted to attend. Rarely, if ever, have I even paid more than face value for a ticket, anywhere (suckeye games included). And I don't have serious ties with anyone but my wife and kid. I guess I'm just planning my usual tactics on this one. It'll work out ... always does.Go Rockets (in this game).
  23. BGSU hosts Wisconsin there on September 2nd THIS year.I'm in the camp that says this is an OSU home game, no matter the structure of the payouts. There's just too many suckeye sheep in these parts for the UT fans to make a dent in the crowd.I'll probably do my part and don fear the roo gear and go root against the suckeyes for that game. I don't care whose game it is .. just hope the Rockets hand the Sucks their second MAC loss in 2 seasons when that game comes around.
  24. Strange thing is that he doesn't show up @ either Rivals or Scout. I wonder if he already decommitted or was released when Smith quit?
  25. In a world of unlimited flexibility and budgets, it would be very cool to assemble a ZipsNation Army of sorts to hit a game of all signees .. but maybe more important .. critical recruits that are still deciding.I'm thinking if I was wavering between being a 6th/7th man at a BS .. er BCS .. level school or joining the Roo, I'd be impressed if a vocal contingent of the Roo showed up in force. Maybe we should try and convice Z-P to crack open that safe he carries around in the back seat of the Pinto .. heck we could all just pile into the Pinto & go. What say you Padre? EDIT: Come to think of it, if this isn't a job for the Rowdies, I don't know what is. Road trip to PA!
