  1. Wait a minute, your telling me big guys are allowed to hit clutch free throws late in a game? Blasphemy!
  2. Right now the MAC is just too much of a crap shoot. I think us and Can't are starting to try and seperate ourselves from the pack a bit, but it is hard to tell. The rest of the East? Ohio started 0-4 before putting up back to back 99 point performances in wins. Miami has been demolished by us and lost to Ball State but has a win over Can't. BG has a win in Can't but has been destroyed by us on the road and lost at home to Buffalo. Buffalo has fallen flat on their face since their big revenge game against us topped off with a home loss to Ball State.
  3. Everything I read about this kid just doesn't sound like he's got any real hope for making it here. It seems like the kid doesn't want to be here, is only coming here as an absolute last resort and would rather coast on his natural talents on the field than put in the work in the classroom to get himself eligible. You can talk about all the academic support programs you want, but if the kid doesn't want to be here, and doesn't want to put the effort in, it won't make a difference. I hope I'm wrong, but I just feel like I've watched this movie before and didn't enjoy the ending. Maybe there is a better, alternate ending on the DVD extras I'm not aware of.
  4. To me, that kind of result has to be a cautionary one for the Zips. You can't sleep on these MAC West teams, no matter how good you think you are or how bad you think they are. You HAVE to show up ready to play each and every night. I like how the Zips came out to play Wed. against WMU, have to keep that up the rest of the way here. Just because some of these teams are cupcakes doesn't mean they can't clog up a few arteries and knock you down for the count.
  5. Because this program is not very good right now. We need to take at least one or 2 chances a year on a kid that we normally have no chance of getting. This kid is at a BCS school if his grade were good.Am I the only one having flushbacks to a couple years ago. Seriously, it is like de ja vu all over again around here.
  6. Pure speculation here, but this seems like the kind of kid who has well less than a 50/50 chance of ever seeing the field here. I have to wonder why we are even trying with him. Feels like an early JD-era type recruit. All hype, no substance.
  7. Buffalo looked like world beaters two weeks ago. Now they are losing at home to middling West teams. Guess it just goes to show you how crazy this conference is.
  8. This schedule isn't that bad. ORU has made the NCAA Tournament several times. Wyoming is in and out of being good, but they can be good. CSU will be a great game. Temple is a nice pick up. Miami is a good team. There are nine games listed above. Get 5 more and round out the schedule with one cupcake, two more like Niagra and two ATM games....the Athletic Department could use the money.Like I've said before, the last 4 open spots on this schedule will make or break it. If we follow our trend and 2 or 3 of those 4 spots are cupcake D-III schools the schedule will be no better than last year. If we actually try to challenge ourselves with a high major conference opponent or two and a couple quality mid-majors and this schedule will be just fine. It all comes down to those last 4 games. This is a decent foundation, now we have to figure out what we are putting on top of it.
  9. Id like to see gonzaga on the schedule............ so we can get a lil payback. What are you talking about? I feel the idea is to play teams that we have the chance of beating and bolstering our schedule. We are not at Gonzaga's level. This year we are not even at Rhode Islands level. Gonzaga would not even take the call from Akron if we tried to schedule them. Gonzaga is looking to play schools in the NW for recruiting purposes, or top 20 schools to keep their RPI high because of their weak league. Lets get out of Fantasy LandGotta disagree here. If the goal, as you state it, is to play teams that we have the chance of beating and bolstering our schedule, then Gonzaga and Rhode Island are exactly the teams we should be scheduling. We have shown over the last year that we can play nose to nose with each of those teams. If we stop crapping down our legs when the pressure is on then we do have a chance at beating those teams, and they are certainly schedule boosters. Now if you argument is that we should play teams that we are assured of beating, then no, don't schedule the Gonzagas and the Rhode Islands. Now whether or not Gonzaga would actually schedule us, that is a different question all together. I agree there, that we probably aren't all that exciting an option for them.
  10. They switched how they did the bracketbusters, so the return game won't be until the 2011-2012 season. Though, we will still host a bracketbuster game next year.Schedule does look very similar to this year's schedule up to this point. The last four games can make it better, but I have feeling they are going to be buy-games at home.+1The last 4 games will make or break this schedule. Unfortunatly, looking at our schedules the last few years and looking at this schedule, the one thing missing are those buy games against terrible teams nobody cares about.
  11. Much like last week, it would be appreciated if someone who has access to radio/video on this one could keep a poor law student who is stuck in class until 9:30 informed as to what is going on. I'm going to try to leave zipsnation and the livestats open as much as possible.
  12. I am aware that Niagra is a good mid-major program and have no problem with them being on the schedule. That being said, they aren't going to impress the selection committee. The way I look at this schedule is that we have the middle of it pretty well set with quality mid-majors like CSU, Wyoming, Niagra and UIC. We've got one top-level mid-major in Temple. We've got one decent power conference team in Indiana State. We need to find a few more teams for the top of our schedule. Teams like a Texas A&M. Even in their best year, Niagra does not bring the clout the a Texas A&M does.
  13. So if I read this correctly, as of now our OOC schedule for next year will be:Home:Cleveland StateOral RobertsWyomingReturn trip from this years bracketbusterAway:OaklandTempleUICNiagraNeutral:Miami(FL)Indiana St.Looking at that schedule still isn't all that impressive. Don't get me wrong, I like that we at least look willing to go on the road. Miami(FL) is kind of next years NC State game, but they historically don't have as good a program. There is nothing in the way of a Texas A&M style road game (maybe you could call Temple that, but I'm not sure, they are still a mid-major program, although a good one). The home game from the bracketbuster is likely to be another Valpo type of team, which isn't entirely bad, but doesn't help us any more than Wyoming, Oral Roberts, UIC or Niagra does. Those last 4 games better not be a bunch of Malone's and St. Francis', or we're looking at essentially the same schedule as this year plus a few more true road games. Hopefully we land another quality opponent at the Vegas tournament, maybe pull in a good mid-major at home like a Rhode Island and go on the road for one or two more games against power conference teams.
  14. Barely, and against a team that has won 1 game in conference so far this season.
  15. I don't even care about the NCAA's, I would just like to go on the road for once and not get embarrased. Not watch our team crap down their legs for 8 minutes every game. Not watch us turn the ball over making stupid mistakes. Not watch us score 4 points in 9 minutes of play. Quite frankly, if this team gets to the NCAA's it is going to be a one and done again if we don't learn how to play away from the JAR. Mark my words. This team going on the road is BAD news.
  16. DAN PETERS JOB IS TO SCHEDULE. Zipsnations job is to critique this program. One major critique of this program is it's unwillingness to go on the road, even just a little bit and it's inability to step up when they do. If Dan Peters job is too difficult for him, maybe he needs to find a different job.
  17. This team has no idea how to handle adversity on the road. We saw it in Buffalo when they folded for the last 6 minutes of the first half and we saw it again today when they absolutely crapped their pants in the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half. This team is absolutely unprepared to go on the road and play big games because, guess what, they HAVEN'T gone on the road, at all. You can win all the games in the friendly confines of the JAR that you want, but if you want to take that next big step you have to come out on the road and be able to perform better than that crap. Absolutely embarrasing.
  18. Zips crap down their legs again. Another long scoring drought, turning the ball over, forcing things. 15-0 run by Can't. Zips down 14. Not looking good.
  19. Strange first half. Much more a game of runs than the slug it out back and forth game we are used to seeing from a Can't/Akron game. Bench play seems to be the difference right now as the Zips bench is arguably outperforming the starters. We've had a Brett McClanahan sighting with 7 points including a nice fadeaway on a post-up, a layup on a dribble drive and a 3 on the break from a McNees feed. Cvetinovic has played very well as well. Unfortunatly Can't's bench sparkplug Mike McKee has lit us up for 10 points so far. Zips are a deeper team than the flushes, though. Have to do a better job on the boards in the 2nd half. Too many second chance points for Can't. Also have to look more for early offense. Can't's halfcourt defense is tough.
  20. Sounds like he might be looking to get out of W.Virginia. Not too many mountains around Akron Mr. Henry.
  21. I don't have the picture of the sign, but that sign was the FAILURE sign right?FAILURE! When your best just isn't good enough, again, and again, and again! That would be the one.
  22. Ahh the memories. The Rowdies sign featuring that sad looking Can't cheerleader that made its debut a few years ago at the MACC after we beat the flushes in OT on the Dials/J.Wood tip-in at the buzzer is still one of my favorities.Let's go grill us up some black squirrel Saturday afternoon!
  23. Zips need to figure out how to put together a beatdown like that away from the friendly confines of the JAR. Preferably like, this weekend.
  24. If one of you fine Zips fans can keep a poor law student who is stuck in class until 9:30 tonight updated on how the game is going it would be much appreciated. Don't think my prof is going to be too happy if I try to pull up the 1350 internet feed.
  25. Buffalo isn't exactly unrealistic. They are the 1 seed in the MAC at the moment. They just beat us pretty soundly. It isn't like they picked Toledo. Still, you have to remember that all of these "experts" are really just looking at who is leading the conference at the moment they put out their bracket.
