  1. No offense to zippyrifle32, but I nominate this for worst post ever.No offense to you, but you must not read these boards enough. So you don't see the insanity in WANTING Payne to commit to the Zips just to get the rest of the conference wound up only to rip out Zips fans hearts by de-committing a few months later? Sounds like great fun to me.
  2. What exactly is the big deal with us getting commits in April? I quite frankly couldn't give less of a crap about when we get the commitment. I care about if the kid can play or not. Would you guys rather have 10 commits in April who will never be more than bench fodder or 5 quality starters who commit in January? Verbals in April don't mean that much. Letters of intent in February mean a lot.
  3. No offense to zippyrifle32, but I nominate this for worst post ever.
  4. You can never underestimate the power of having a sharpshooting 3-point shooter on the floor. This team struggled at times from the 3-point line last year and a guy like Holden could certainly help out. The big question I have is do we really have room on our team for another sub-6'0" guard?
  5. I'm not expecting us to be able to land Payne. It is just nice to be in the conversation. As long as you're in the conversation I suppose anything is possible.
  6. Does anyone know what OU's scholarship situation even looks like right now? They have had so much turnover there the last couple years it is hard to keep track of it. I know they have a seven player class coming in already at this point. I wonder if they even have the 2010 scholarships to offer to Wright.
  7. Great to hear that we are still on the board for Payne. Sounds like we aren't too far down the board either. I was worried that with Coach Boals departure we would fall off the radar for him, but it sounds like Adreian's relationship is with KD. We're still in the hunt on this one. Anything can happen.Anyone have any information on Weatherspoon? Are we in contention for him at all?
  8. Ohh you mean those games that are on ESPN Deportes????
  9. Sounds like he's another nice recruit on the radar for us. We could certainly use some size at SG and Cameron has that. Noticing that he is on King James AAU team. Wonder if that could sway his decision at all???I still think Payne and Weatherspoon should be our top targets, but with everyone looking at those two, Cameron would certainly be a nice under the radar 2nd option.
  10. Rick Chryst s_cked as the MAC commissioner...Good riddance..."When Rick Chryst arrived, the MAC actually had to pay to be on television."And now they don't pay anything -- but every other conference GETS PAID for their ESPN contract. Nice PR Rick! They televise MAC games???
  11. Rick, be careful not to blow your shoulder out patting yourself on the back and watch out for that doorknob hitting you on the ass on your way out the door.
  12. Like I said before, I'm not going to go out of my way to disparage the guy, but he's not a part of our program anymore. Have we had some good memories with him in the program. Ofcourse. Did he do some great things for our program. Ofcourse. However, some of you who are naive enough to think that a coach leaving a program is a time for sunshine and puppy dogs and campfires with Koombaya need a little reality check. It's perfectly alright for guys to feel like they've been abandoned by a Coach who has done so much for this program. There is no reason to get down GoZips throat for this one. Coach Boals is gone and it's time to move on without him.
  13. It was nice having Coach Boals on the bench, but you're either with us or you're against us. Right now, he's against us. I'm not going to disparage the guy on his way out the door, but I'm also not naive enough to think that it has to be all sunshine and puppy dogs while he leaves.
  14. This is a very different time and a very different Zips team than 9 years ago.
  15. I could MAYBE see it getting done if our end of the 1 and 1 was moved to the Q. I don't think you are ever going to get OSU (or probably any other Big 11 team for that matter) into the JAR. Maybe a team like Northwestern, but even that is doubtful. I wouldn't mind a matchup against OSU at the Q though. Like Buckzip said, I think we could put a good scare into the Buckeye's and maybe even take them down.
  16. From a recruiting perspective having Dru II prowling the sidelines would be SWEET. He's very well connected both in the local area and on the national scene (running LeBron's AAU tournament). Kind of NEOhio basketballs version of Ted Ginn Sr. Dru III wouldn't be bad either, I have always felt like he was coaching material whenver he wants to be.
  17. If someone can confirm that Payne is still coming in for his visit (reportedly this weekend?) it would certainly take some of the edge off of losing Coach Boals. I don't necessarily need him to commit or something, but showing that we are still on the radar would be nice.
  18. Great to hear that Zeke is here to stay. I for one appreciate and respect the young man for honoring his decision when he could have easily walked away with Coach Boals. It sucks that Jeff is leaving, and in the short term there is no doubt that it will have effect on the program. It may not hurt us as much as some would speculate, but it certainly doesn't help. I guess the question now is who do we replace Boals with?
  19. I hope these reports are false, but it doesn't look good. The immediate effect is that this certainly hurts our recruiting efforts, particularly in terms of Payne and Weatherspoon. I really hope Zeke is solidly enough in our corner that this wouldn't impact him, but who knows. Definitly not a great day for the Zips, but I guess if we are going to become a high mid-major program we are going to have to learn to deal with days like this.
  20. I wouldn't expect the program to collapse without Boals, but it would certainly be a loss. KD has a way of surrounding himself with good people. As was already stated, Shaka Smart already came out of our program and is putting together a nice career for himself. Would it set us back a little bit? Ofcourse. You don't lose your top recruiter and expect everything to go on without a hiccup, but I don't think it would kill our program. That said, someone please screen Jeff Boals phone calls for the next couple weeks. Anything that comes from a 513 area code should be heavily screened.
  21. We absolutely have to keep Coach Boals. Lock him up in a bunker underneath the JAR if we have to, but the guy needs to stay. He's a big part of our recruiting efforts and a huge part of what we are building here. That said, it would be a step up for him if he decided to leave, but not a huge step up. I'm sure the pay is better, and Xavier has a little better national reputation, but this isn't like Coach K is calling him wanting him to sit second chair at Duke.
  22. The wierd thing is, if they were just looking at record and graduation rates we should win the MAC pretty easy next year. We had the best record overall (if you wanna look at just MAC record BG should be the rep.). We won the tournament to get the auto-bid, and we only lose one player to graduation.
  23. The Dwain Williams saga continues.http://www.recordpub.com/news/sports_article/4565885Apparently he told the Hawaii newspaper that he never committed to Can't State in the first place and is for sure going there. Seriously, what is up with this kid? Is this just a sever case of ADHD or what? Meanwhile Can't apparently has given up on him and added a 6'10" JUCO that, from the sounds of it is little more than a warm body.
  24. I really don't like the idea of splitting the student section up on each side of the field. It leads to a lot of the same coordination issues that you see with the Rowdies at the JAR. It's just difficult to get everyone on the same page when they are all the way across the field from one another.Other than that, I like the way this whole thing is sounding.
  25. Didn't know this one. Out of high school Williams was originally a Miami Redhawk recruit. Since then he has made stops at Providence, Long Beach State, Oregon State and now Can't State (allegedly) and Hawaii (allegedly). This kid adds a new personality dimension to the Can't State roster, if he actually shows up.
