That's a nice thought....but Xavier won the A-10 tourney yesterday, so they are going dancing. Maybe Cinci replaces Xavier and we head south to Bearcat country?Wouldn't that be ironic....

I haven't heard that, but I wouldn't be surprised if Wadd tries to take his best to Cincinatti with him. Any ideas as to who else he would take with him?

Remember, French is the guy who just a few weeks ago said, "SACK" on air and it was not during a football game.He is better for basketball, but to say he could do play-by-play for any team in the country is a GREAT exaggeration. Time to put down the crack pipe ZipsWin. If that was the case, Steve would have left Akron years ago for more money somewhere else. I like Steve, but him and Joe could not spot for Paul Keels and Jim Lachey down in Columbus. Stams (much like Lolla before him and JD in the future) will use Akron as a stepping stone and go onto bigger and better things. This is my final post on this topic, obviously not everyone is going to agree with me. However, if UAM sticks by Steve and Joe, then they are good enough for him. And if they are good enough for him, they are good enough for me. All you have to do is look at how greatly he has improved the coverage of Zips Athletics since he arrived:The broadcasts sound 100% better, he expanded coverage, added stams to the team, brought on tommy g to do women's hoops and other sports, and brought on board bigtime sponsors.

Joe IS NOT a good announcer.He sugar-coats EVERYTHING.He often proclaims that he just saw the greatest call ever. Joe has seen a lot of games, I have a hard time believing that a Luke Getsy TD pass is the greatest play he has ever seen. Has anyone ever heard Joe ask a question on the post-game show? I have not. He makes statements and then expects the coaches to respond. I just wish once the interview would go like this.....JD: I'll tell you what Coach, the play of Romeo Travis tonight was some of the best I have ever seen.KD: Did you ask me a question Joe or just make an exaggerated blanket statement?The less I hear of Joe Dunn, the better.

Dunn is awful. That, I COMPLETELY agree on. Removing him from all broadcasts would be a great move. Hire a former player to do color for basketball. Stams does a great job on football and makes for a perfect color guy.Then move Tommy G from the studio to the sideline for football if you are not going to replace Frenchy on the call. Sometimes I take my radio to home games with me and while the refs are not great, he definitely exaggerates at times. Bill Needle is the worst ever. If I hear his voice, I change the channel. If he did our games, I would never tune in. Caught a little bit of the CSU game yesterday, don't know the guys name, but he is decent. Nothing special.

I agree and disagree. Frenchy on football is below average. He often does not know who has the ball or who made the tackle. I like his enthusiasm, but sometimes it is over the top and you can't tell what he says. There is no question he is a fan, but a broadcaster is not supposed to be a fan. His basketball is better, probably because he is closer to the action and can see what is happening.Now that he is a hall of famer, maybe it is time to move in another direction. Tommy G has been with the Zips for a few years, maybe it is time he takes over as lead broadcaster? I think he does a fine job on the womens games and I listened to him on soccer as well and he did a good job. A younger voice might be good for the broadcasts. Won't help the signal any, but might help the broadcast. On a final note, frenchy, if you read this, PLEASE give the time and score more often!!

This will NEVER happen. 1. They are not interested in sharing their new stadium with us and we are not interested in sharing our new stadium with them.2. Our new stadium will be ON CAMPUS. It has to be. This is an old topic that has been beaten to death. If there ever does end up being a MLS team in NEOhio, it will not have anything to do with AU.

This is a good draw. A win means much more to the Zips then a loss.Also, don't forget that going to Nevada this year means they have to make a return trip to Rhodes Arena next fall for non-conference play. That is a very nice home game for the Zips to have in an arena where they rarely lose. I like it.In the meantime, can't wait for buffalo and Can't. Got my tickets for the dump known as the MACC Center yesterday. Go Zips!

I can not listen to Joe Dunn anymore. I too am sick of his love affair captain. Some of my favorite games to listen to this season were the ones in San Juan when Steve was flying solo. We finally have a first-rate football color guy, what are the odds we can get an upgrade for basketball too? Cedrick was incredibly impressive. Even my wife made a comment about his play on the way home, and she doesn't know a lick about basketball. I can't wait to start taking on the East "powerhouses" and watching our climb to the top in the MAC EAST. Would love to have to hang another one of these: :macc:

The best part of this quote is Owens recruited Hixon as a DB, not a WR. Hixon did not make the transition to WR until JD (well known for coaching some top WR's) took over as head coach and saw an opportunity to get the best production from a player. Owens could have coached another 10 years at Akron and he would have NEVER had a MAC title or bowl game appearance. J.D. makes the most of what he has and makes winners out of his players. Owens is a loser and his record reflects him. Enough patting Lee on the back already. MOVE ON!!!!

I do not know the exact details of what makes Mack more qualified than UAM, I do however know that to be AD, you need a masters. Mack has one, UAM does not. This could have been the difference. I am not saying it is for sure, but was probably a factor. I applaud Mike for taking this decision like a champ and hope he decides to stick around. He has done great things for the university and will continue to do so, regardless of who is the AD. I disagree about Lolla staying had there been an AD in-place. That would not have changed the situation. Akron made a great offer to get Ken to stay and he still went to Louisville. Mike Thomas, UAM, nor Mack Rhoades could have changed his mind. Good luck to Mack and go zips on Monday. (Don't tell the kids, but Santa is bringing Motor City Bowl tickets and t-shirts for their stockings.) :macc:

Mario Sanchez WILL NOT be the next head coach at Akron. He will likely follow Ken to Louisville unless he gets a head coaching job on the west coast. Grad Assistant Jeremy Proud is also off to Louisville. We are starting over from scratch. I agree docking deserves a good, long look.

From today's cleveland plain dealer: Lolla leaving: Ken Lolla, the successful University of Akron soccer coach, is expected to be hired today by the University of Louisville Cardinals as their next coach, according to sources close to the Zips and around the Mid-American Conference. Lolla coached the Zips for 13 years and led Akron to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including this season Sad day for the University of Akron. Don't know who is going to hire a new soccer coach when there is no AD. Bad, bad news for the zips. Sorry to see Ken leave, but somehow I imagine Louisville made an offer he couldn't resist. Just checked the Zips Soccer roster and they have already taken down his name. Also took down both of his assistants, leading me to believe he is taking them with him. Oy-vey!!!

Long time, no post. Been on the west coast for business with the exception of a trip home for Thanksgiving, caught the Can't win and then flew back a day early to go to the MACC in Detroit. I have heard Boston College as well. Having an ACC team come to the rubber bowl to open the season would be HUGE. If BC comes I heard no trip to NC State.

That makes my saturday. JUst checked the Can't website and it says attendance was 3121. That means it was probably more like 800. Pathetic. Don't count on too many of their fans making it to the rubber bowl turkey day.

I was at the game tonight. Cold but tons of fun. Surprised my seven year-old hung-in until the end, probably helped it was an exciting game. Zips came out and looked good. Gonna try and make it again Sunday. Hopefully more people will come out then, small crowd tonight. This team is GOOD.

Ok, so I did a little research on the masters degree. I went to NCAA.org and checked their employment section, thinking maybe Akron has an add up for the new AD. They did not, but six schools did. This is what two said under requirements: "MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A Master's degree" "A Bachelor’s degree is required and advanced degree is preferred." Have we determined that Mike does NOT have a masters or is this an assumption? I think MIke would do a great job picking up where MT has left off, but I still believe in a National Search to ensure he is the BEST candidate.
