  1. the guy is full of it...he has his guy already. If you think for one second your feedback matters then your out of your minds!! It will be funny when those of you that pick Loeffler think you had anything to do with it, when he got the job almost a month ago....hey keep believing ....Go ZipsIf it's Loeffler, so be it. But if it's NOT, can we expect you to admit you were.......ahem.........w-w-r-r-w-r-o-n-g?Frankly, I am not sure who this Loeffler is.I found Internet stuff on a Scot Loeffler, QB coach at Florida. Is this the guy?If so, THUMBS DOWN. We already did the failed experiment with the coach who has never been a head coach. Thank you, but, definitely, no thank you.Akron sorely needs a HC who has a winning track record as a head coach. I cast my vote forChuck Martin. Pay the man well and build a solid, WINNING program for years to come.

  3. Just received this bulk e-mail this evening ....Additional Tickets Available for Men's Soccer Game AKRON, Ohio – Due to exceptionally high demand, accommodations for additional seating have been made for Saturday's NCAA Tournament match between the University of Akron men's soccer team and Tulsa, the UA Athletics Department announced Wednesday. To purchase tickets to the highly anticipated game, call the Athletics Ticket Office at 1-888-99-AKRON or visit on-line at GoZips.com. The top-seeded Zips (22-0-0) and eighth-seeded Golden Hurricane (15-4-2) will kick off at 4 p.m. (EST) at Lee Jackson Field. To make room for the additional seating, the fence on the west end of the stadium will be removed temporarily and bleachers will be installed. Moreover, to help compensate for what will likely be the team's fifth record-setting crowd of the season, all four gates will be accessible to fans. Once again, the will call table will be available at 2:30 p.m.Akron is attempting to become the first team in 35 years to win a national championship and is currently riding the second longest, single-season win streak in NCAA history. Saturday's game will represent the program's third appearance in an NCAA quarterfinal match.
  4. I bought my tickets this morning at Infocision. Was told that they have plenty of tickets as they areadding some additional bleachers along with opening the west end zone. There were two "suits" looking over the west end fencing when I walked over for a look-see.I asked about additional porta-johns and they stated that they had that covered. The university is hoping for a crowd in excess of 3,500 people.
  5. You sure you don't have the Hoosiers confused with Clemson? If only that were so.Sorry, I heard rumors of IU contacting Caleb before any of this news broke. My personal hope is that IU just isn't all that attractive to Caleb. As Thomas Wolff once wrote ...."you can't go home again..."
  6. Freitag, class of '79.Thrown under the bus. For what? Not winning back to back to back to back National Championships?Caleb needs a history lesson before IU comes calling (actually they already have). What is Mike Freitag but a distinguished IU alum that led them to a National Championship?Freitag replaced a legend in Yeagley. That shadow would fall on Caleb, too.The only thing IU has over Akron is money. And, frankly, probably not all that much money.Bad move. A young, virile coach thrown under the bus without cause for a younger coach. What for? Perhaps there is some seriously dirty laundry at IU. NCAA violation laundry?Bad part for Akron, most of Caleb's recruits would be free to follow him to IU and present IUwith a fresh National Championship for 2010. And folks think Hoosiers are hicks.
  7. Two candidates appeal to me.Luke Fickel whom most of us feel the love. Five or six successful years at Akron makes Luke the primecandidate to succeed Jim Tressel.Chuck Martin. SIXTY-ONE wins verses FIVE losses as a head coach says volumes. HIRE him NOW ... !!!!
  8. "This season, it's hard to argue too much at first with Porter's record, leading Akron to an undefeated record and a spot in the NCAA Soccer News Topics Quarterfinals. That said, he has done that without playing a single power team from the ACC, Big-East or Pac-10 Soccer News Topics all season and receiving an utter joke of a draw from the NCAA. Since arriving in 2006, Porter's teams have only played ACC or Pac 10 Opposition five times*, going 2-3. All season, I have been saying that Akron is completely counterfeit and that they've been that way for a few years now. I think they schedule soft and I think their results in the tournament have shown that.""Utter joke of a draw?" Tell us oh Mister Wizard, who should have gotten the overall number one seed?Anyone from the ACC you can be sure."Akron is completely counterfeit." Yep, exactly what the coaches of South Florida and Stanford afterplaying the Zips. Pure counterfeit. Like they said, all you have to do to beat the sucky Zips is out score them. Twenty-two schools of the Little Sisters of the Poor have not managed to do that.Hmmm, isn't South Florida one of the Big East's better teams? And, say, isn't Stanford in the PAC-10?Did we Zips miss something here? Oh, I see, neither of them were "seeded" in the tournament. Its luck, not skill that makes all those college coaches vote Akron as the number one team. Sixteenopposing coaches are definitely wrong. Mister Wizard knows all, sees all and pees down his leg.Not to mention winning six games against the pathetically weak, limp wristed Big Ten. But, that's notvalid because the sucky Zips from the putrid Mid-American conference did not play the best Big Ten squad; NorthWorstern. What a crock of shite. Frankly, I believe this is wonderful motivational bulletin board material. Thanks, Stupo.
  9. I read these posts and you all seem to have good ideas and elements of what we NEED.Just make sure we do NOT get another nice guy with a blank resume and a hot looking babe wife.Make sure that who ever gets the position has three things; a resume of success; good people skills;and a PASSION to WIN.Most of you are way to young to remember Leo Durocher (won three league penants and one WorldSeries as manager of the NY Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers) who gave us the quote to anchor our search ... "Nice guys finish last" (see: Brookhart, JD).
  10. I was the person talking with bigzipguy. I saw the ball coming and turned my torso to put my hipon the ball side. Honestly, I gauged that the ball would pass between us. It came in so hard and fast thatit was difficult judge. Based on the impact sound it probably would have sprained a wrist if anyone madecontact with it.It took several minutes for bigzipguy to recover. He was still gimping about after halftime. I really feltbad for him. Had no good idea what we could do for him. At least he got to look up at the young babewho came over to check on him several times. I think once he could enjoy looking at her he was on theway to recovery. Had to smart like h-e-c-k.
  11. I highly respect JD Brookhart as a man. As a coach, not so much. JD needs to fix a few glaring problems in his program. First, the 3-3-5 absolutely must go. This defensecoughs up touchdowns like a kat coughs up hairballs.Second, no more junk plays like the goofus inspired formation on our goal line that gave Ohio U a freetouchdown. Ugly.Next, discipline. There is simply no excuse for false starts, improper alignments, twelve men on thefield, cheap shot personal fouls, etc. Not to mention the frequency of screw ups caused by MEs. (mental errors)Shane Montgomery needs to go. Walt Harris as offensive coordinator would be a huge improvement.Worst offense in my eyes ... the poor decisions regarding Chris Jacquemain. The kid should have beensent packing the first time he was caught. JD jeopardized the entire athletic program with his Mother Teresa handling of CJ. Zero tolerance with drugs and felonies. No second chance, ever. Prediction: And, I pray that I am wrong ... JD stays for his last year and produces a 4-8 season.
  12. This is Cant Skate. Geno Ford will hand out the toughest possible punishment for breaking rules.Holt will be suspended for the first half of the Thanksgiving Day practice. That's good because there is no practice that day. Go flushes.
  13. 3,400 spectators ... question: is that a new seating capacity of the permanent stands or the totalnumber of souls including behind the east goal? The plan does not include berm seating behind the west goal. I think that is a huge mistake. Some how the field needs shifted enough to put 1,000 students in that end zone.Seemed to those of us behind USF's goal in the first half that the sun played a major beneficial role for theZips. The second goal came right out of the sun for the USF goalie. He simply never saw the ball untilit was whizzing past him.Update: Looking at the fourth drawing (did not see it the first time I looked) shows an open space behind the west goal. In the drawing they have removed that lighted pathway behind the west goal. The firstdrawing does not show that space.
  14. 35:38 into the first half Stanford socres. 1-0 the Cardinal.
  15. As long as the ticket office does not announce a sellout you still have time.I bought tickets Friday and they claimed they were near a sellout.
  16. Good OOC schedule.A decent non-BCS I-A game at home is in order.
  17. Waiter, I'll have what they are smoking.Go Zips ... !!!!
  18. Was watching the video feed on the USF web site. Toward the end of the game with USF leading thetwo announcers were discussing how far into the NCAA tournament USF will be when they encounter another Big East opponent. They blew off the Zips as a speed bump barely worthy of them breaking a sweat. There were likelyopponents in later rounds to be more concerned about. They were quite sure that Akron will fall just as they did in 2005 (they said) when they burned our tail feathers to upset Akron.I started thinking about getting a barf bag. These toads are so cocky. Bring them down futbolers.
  19. South Florida fan blog has just one thread concerning soccer. You have to scrool down as the top of the page is a general directory.USF BlogCould not find a blog for Stetson.BTW, they are pretty confident that they are going to beat us and then face some "real" competion.
  20. Looks like I was successful in keeping the NCAA jinx off our butts. The Zips did garner the number one seed. Dare say that I was wrong? A little. The wank from Virginia doing the commentary predicted that Virginia has the easiest path to the nationalchampionship. That belongs, by rights, to the number one seed. He surely does not respect the Zips.Note, too, that "sir wank" has the same Final Four as I predicted the NCAA was playing for save he substituted Notre Dame for UCLA.Its now a five game season. Win five and you go home the national champs. Personally, I think theZips have a pretty good chance if they do not stumble against South Florida like two years ago.
  21. No one is going to assess that terrible performance better than coach Dambrot just did.
  22. Nice to meet you at the championship game. Seems like you are among the few who understands thatour seed is not about the Zip's record or who we beat. It is completely about how the NCAA operates. The field is composed of forty-eight teams seeded one to forty-eight. The number one seed gets thetheoretically easiest path to the national championship. Virginia is going to get the number one seed. The odds against the Zips getting a top four seed are astronomical. We are not a BCS school. There are NOT four number one seeds. Seeds one through four get home field advantage up to theFinal Four. Go back and look how I built the Elite Eight and see how the teams will face each otherto get to the Final Four.A fair number of posters on ZN were not around a few years back when the Zips dominated the polls. For more than half the season the Zips were a consensus number one. How surprised were we whenthe lofty NCAA relegated the Zips to the ninth seed. That forced Akron to go on the road in the thirdround to face eighth seed UCONN. After dispatching UCONN in a shoot out (at one point the Zips ledthat game 3-0) the Zips played number one seed Maryland and lost in a shoot out. Maryland breezedthrough the Final Four to claim the championship. Oh, did I mention that Maryland is an ACC school?I strongly hope that I am wrong in my assessment. Until I see it with my own eyes I will hold the NCAAas suspect. The NCAA screwed us last year, remember?
  23. w00t, my friend, I want as much as anyone for the Zips to get the overall numbr one seed whichthey have earned. We are dealing with the ego inflated NCAA here. Remember back to last year'stournament. Six of the eight home teams in the Sweet Sixteen had unplayable home fields. Only one,the Zips, were forced to move their game to the lower seed's home field. The other five schools wereallowed to play on a field close to their own home field. We are not a BCS school. Akron is not treatedequally with ACC schools. The only solution is to beat everyone in our way. I believe that we will.
