  1. Strange Sunday. Perhaps some one might clue me in.At Mass this morning there was not one piece of Buckeye paraphernalia. Not one, why?At my favorite after church restaurant which is usually a sea of red on Sundays there were no Buckeye rags of any sort. Why?Did I miss something? You mean to tell me that one little ass kicking made all those loyal fans stow their red and lam'efor the season? Gosh, I hope not, as Cant folks do not lurk out here in Wadstucky. By golly weneed some one to abuse.Ah shucks, didn't see any clown brown gear either. They must be choking on those terrible towels. To quote Brady Quinn, "Its all Charlie's fault!"
  2. Maybe it was because I hung with Jamie Reader (now coaching HS FB in PA) and Russell Holmes at today's game that I am moderately calm. At least the Zips showed some life and put up a fight.Like the rest of you I loathe the 3-3-5 undefense. It is like being in a permanent prevent. You all knowwhat that prevents. Is JD out of touch with his fan base? Why do we (Zips fans) have to be the eternal guinea pigs of college football? Isn't it high time for a solid, fundamental coaching staff?I just have to believe that our kids can match up to nearly any other program. If, they are given areal chance. It is time to play fundamentally sound, conservative, hard nose football. As long as we beat the teams we should beat and pull off one or two real upsets (Syra-excuse was no upset), I will be satisfied. I think MRasor laid out a doable game plan. Let us see if we can accomplishit and get to a bowl. Not time to be ranting about JD's head. Well, not this early in the season.
  3. "In comparison, the Big East splits $8 million. Rhoades still talks about a Big East breakup. When that happens, Akron will be waiting. Rhoades played a role when UTEP moved from WAC to C-USA, so he knows the process." Quote from Rasor's BlogGetting into to the soon to be revised Big East is very much on Akron's radar.
  4. So that's the taste of Orange ...!!!!What wonderful, delightful, schmaltzy schtick ...!!!!Anyone know how to get this on YouTube?Maximum kudos johnnyzip84
  5. Took a stroll over to the stadium between games on Sunday.Half of what was Vine Street is not even there any more. Just past the chain link barrier the groundjust drops away. The entire south end zone area is getting dug out in preperation for the new endzone building to be constructed. To me, the sight of the buildings beyond the south end hill of dirt is even more fun. Looks like thedirt pile is being carted away.
  6. The Zips starting front line is most likely going to be three forwards and no true post player. All threestarting forwards are six-eight. The two big men (Bardo and Swiech) will see the floor for 10-15 minutesapiece.Anyone want to guess who the three six-eight forwards are?
  7. Great report ...!!!! ROFLMHAO
  8. My "question" will not be selected for publication. So, I will post it here for everyone on the board to enjoy." Hey Peter,Just may be the Zips ARE at least two touchdowns better than the Orangemen. That thought ever cross your mind? Huh?"
  9. The 2008 Capital One Bowl has been announced. Our beloved Zippy is not among the twelve selected finalists. What gives? Why doesn't Zippy get a crack at defending his title? A couple of last year's opponents (UCLA, South Carolina) are in the running this year. Makes my blue and gold boil.Found This
  10. Z.I.P., Trevor is the five year old son of men's basketball assistant Terry Weigand.Trevor is in a life and death struggle with brain cancer. Yes, that serious.Trevor has had several operations and is currently in chemo. Reports are that Trevor is doing wellwith the cancer currently in remission. Keep praying.p.s. Start saving your aluminum cans (soda pop and beer) for the "Cans for Trevor" fund. You savethem and we'll get the cash they produce to Trevor's family. This activity has already yielded over $100 for Trevor's expenses
  11. Remember ... even if we were to defeat PITT the Zips still go play FDU and EKU. They do not earn a trip to the Palisades. That is predetermined by the operators of the tournament.Giving PITT a black eye is the best we can hope for.Keep in mind the objectives of this coming season. First, develop the chemistry of the players. Second, improve each player's skills. Third, learn to play as a team. Finally, be in a position to win the MACtournament. Anything short of a post season bid (NCAA, NIT, CBI) marks the season as under achieving.Wait until you see the results of a year's conditioning. The players are "buff". Mike Bardo and SteveSwiech both lost any semblance of baby fat. They look great. This is the best overall talent ever to wear Zips uniforms. You will enjoy this coming season as thesekids develop and blossom. When Zeke suits up he will find a lot of talent surrounding him. Walla ...!!!!Go Zeke ...!!!! Go Trevor ...!!!! Go Zips ...!!!!
  12. Be patient. The Zips are a year away from challenging for the national championship. We are reallyyoung. Also, judging by the sparsity of substitutions the Zips are not deep.Give these great kids a year to play together and add in another great recruiting class. Then, Katie, bar the door. Back to back and possibly back to back to back are real possibilities. If only Hula Z.I.P. wasn't stuck out in Hawai'i. He would really enjoy the home game atmospherewith the rest of us lucky ones freezing our arses off those cold November nights.Go Zeke ...!!!! Go Tervor ...!!!! Go Zips ...!!!!
  13. Legends Classic Explained
  14. Even a reputable Indiana poster says the Zips goal should have counted.IU Fan Opinion
  15. 106.9 WRQK is infinitely better out here in Medina County than the former liberal blow hole 1350.
  16. Yes, Big Ten officials. And, that was one shi**y call. Would some one who knows soccer well please explain that "call"?Even the Big Ten game announcers were confused and in disbelief over the "call". I watched the game on the Big Ten Network compliments of Time-Warner. Channels 77, 333, and 334 all had the game on.We got very little "love" from the Big Ten announcers. They spent the entire second half and both overtimes predicting that Indiana was going to put the Zips away with the next shot. What a couple of homers. One thing I do agree with the announcers on was Akron's lack of substitutions. Mike Freitag knows what he is doing. Caleb needs to pick up on this. Caleb had two good senior players sit the entire game. I know there is a youth movement on. Still, we might have won it outright.Zips win the tournament on total goals three to two. The Zips are for real.
  17. The so called Legends Classic is rigged. Win or lose, the four high majors, (Pitt, Texas Tech, Washington State, Mississippi State) will meet at the Palisades in Newark, NJ November 28-29 for a four team tournament to determine the "chumpionship".This means that if Drexel or Akron upset their high major they still do not get to make the trip to Newark. The four mid majors (Akron, Drexel, Fairleigh Dickinson, Eastern Kentucky) will play two games each at the FDU campus in Teaneck, NJ. It has already been determined that Akron will face FDU and EKU. The Zips do not even get a shot atDrexel of the Colonial Association (same conference as VCU).Basically, its a sham.
  18. Indiana defeated Duke 2-1 setting up an excellent championship match on Sunday with the Zips.Match will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network starting at 2 PM.Go Zeke ...!!!! Go Trevor ... !!!! Go Zips ... !!!!
  19. This business of not mentioning a fan blog by name and even posting a link to it is strange. I have noticedany number of blogs and newspapers with back and forth links. The ABJ and PD should list GoZips.com and Zipsnation.org.Newspapers of the World
  20. Latest word on the 2008-09 men's basketball schedule. It's complete.Yes, complete. Details will be released as soon as Friday, August 29th.The Zips will participate in the Legends Classic. The game at Mississippi State is off the schedule. It isbeing replaced with a game at PITT. A lot closer to home and an opportunity to shine for the AK-Rowdies.There will be a home game against a Div-2 team to be named later. The Zips will likely play FairleighDickinson and Eastern Kentucky at FDU in late November. FDU is located in Teaneck, NJ.Details when available.
  21. The schedule for the inaugural 10-team Cancun Challenge, which includes Vanderbilt, New Mexico, VCU, Drake, Central Arkansas, Citadel, Grambling, Morehead State, South Dakota State, and a team to be named later – was released. The teams will play two games from Nov. 16-26 and then go to Cancun for two games from Nov. 29-30. The four teams that will host two games are Vanderbilt, New Mexico, VCU and Drake. The teams will split into two pools in Cancun. Vandy, New Mexico, VCU and Drake will be in one pool with the other six teams in another pool. CANCUN CHALLENGE Schedule of U.S.-based gamesNov. 16Morehead State at VanderbiltCitadel at VCUNov. 19 South Dakota State at VCUMorehead State at DrakeNov. 20Grambling at New MexicoNov. 22Team TBA at New MexicoNov. 23South Dakota State at DrakeNov. 26Central Arkansas at VanderbiltI am not suggesting that the infamous "team to be named later" is Akron, but it could be <wink>
  22. Darn, Cap'n, that was a nice write up you wrote under the golf outing thread.I missed the outing due to having to work. I had promised Lamont Paris that I would attend. Guess Istill owe my thirty-five bucks. (Luncheon only).I sense from your post that KD is finally allowing some information about the scheduling to be posted. My post to begin this thread came at his bequest. You filled in some additional information rather nicely.
  23. Bad day; really bad day for Charlie haters. By now it is obvious that Mike Holmgren knows QBs.Charlie put up the numbers and "touches" all the Quinny fans long for. PASSING: Seattle, Frye 19-29-0-219, S.Wallace 2-4-1-15. San Diego, Rivers 11-21-0-143, Volek 3-9-0-33.Two touchdown passes on two well executed plays. No interceptions. No sacks. What a difference a real offensive line makes for a QB.Charlie has elevated himself to the back up position behind all pro Matt Hasselbeck. In all likelihoodCharlie will be the starter on opening day. Meanwhile "pink tutu boy" will be holding a clip board.Once again; I repeat my bleat. "Charlie Frye will earn his Super Bowl ring as the starting QB before the Browns get to a Super Bowl game."
  24. Crafty, aw, yes, an event sure to warm the cockles of the Zips coaching staff's hearts.Info: the primary reason that tourneys are collapsing is that there are way too many of them. The NCAA changed the rules to allow teams to participate every year rather than once every four years. Most of these exempts are set. A few are finding that teams are opting to move to better opportunities. Thus creating a bit of chaos. The scramble is on for those teams left with an incomplete schedule (i.e. Akron).
  25. Zeke would probably be ranked even higher if he had attended a major camp/event in mid summer. Zeke skipped it to attend his mother's ordination in their church. Zeke is one special player that will continue to improve over the next several years. His current ranking is just fine with the Zips coaches.Let's hope and pray that Zeke stays true to the Zips. I believe that he will. I also feel that by the end of his senior year Zeke will easily be in the top twenty-five (five star territory).Go Zeke! Go Zips! Go Trevor!Lasagna power ... !!!!p.s. Start saving your aluminum cans (soda pop and beer) for the "Cans for Trevor" fund. You save them and we'll get the cash they produce to Trevor's family. This activity has already yielded over $100 for Trevor's expenses
