  1. That was a fascinating article. Seeing him in that photo makes me think he wouldn't do half bad as 007.
  2. I remember a couple years ago how Martin talked about wanting to establish recruiting bonds locally. Well, Doug, you can pretty much have your pick of the 5-11 receivers and 210-pound linemen around here regardless of who you're buddy-buddy with.
  3. Skip-Zip, you're right. You can't change the scheme each year depending on your personnel. I am starting to agree with Brookhart more every day because how hard it is to land serviceable d-lineman and how easy it is to grab linebackers and d-backs who can hold their own.If somehow Akron grabs three d-linemen in 2008 who will be eligible to play, it's time to start thinking about a more conventional system on which the rest of the MAC will not be able to run.At this point, it doesn't appear that will change in 2008.
  4. Wow. Kadar... As far as the 3-4 goes, Akron basically already has 3-4 personnel on the field. You could easily call Mackey a linebacker. The only difference would be the scheme.I don't see a scheme change as helping the problem -- winning the line-of-scrimmage battle -- all that much.Still, it's an interesting suggestion, and it will become more interesting once Mackey, Davanzo Tate and Reggie Corner graduate.
  5. Great find! That's outstanding.Hope you don't mind if I rip that off for my blog.
  6. Good to hear you guys have a winning record. The Keg Kickers sit at 6-0 (including four mercy wins). We picked up a big left-handed bat in free agency who hits home runs with astonishing regularity. My batting average sucks too but I do have a grand slam to my credit.
  7. Maybe next time, CK.How's your softball team faring this season?
  8. Whoa. That's news to me. Good find, ZF81.
  9. The Lance Jeter transfer is about 95 percent done. He'd have to sit out a year, of course.
  10. The way the coaches and administrators talk about 2009, the stadium announcement might as well already be made.I'd say since the fall, no one has really had any doubt that the stadium will open that year.On a side note, I spoke tonight with one business owner who had been contacted about a year ago about selling property on Exchange Street across from Pints. They have not heard back since. To me, that means one of three things: the owner was lying (unlikely), that property is no longer necessary or UA is seriously behind schedule.
  11. Tom Hagen is a fictional character from Godfather parts I and II.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Hagen
  12. A lot of players -- DK included -- had a class Saturday.
  13. I wouldn't blame professors as much as the university's open enrollment policy. It's great to give poor high school students a shot at college, but it can make the school look bad at times. I mean, it really shouldn't be a prof's duty to teach students how to spell. That is sumthing for elementary school teachers.
  14. Yeah. Saturday's scrimmage is closed to the public. Sorry guys.
  15. From what I hear, it's going to be more of a spring game than the spring game.I don't think it's open to the public, but I'll check tomorrow.
  16. Marty,Good point. The team is doing great.I would suggest more praise should go on the players. In golf, the coach is more like a manager -- particularly college golf where players have heard every bit of instruction there is and probably have personal coaches, too.Sattler, Wright, Snyder, etc. have turned out to be great golfers. I'm excited to see how they fare at the MAC Tourney.
  17. Phil Savage is nowhere stupid enough to draft Quinn. Anything you hear now is all smoke signals.I'll be the first to admit when I'm wrong about this, but you're looking at Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson or a trade.Alleman would be a nice pickup in the third. The Browns need to develop depth at OL, not just five dependable starters.
  18. He definitely has the coaches' eyes now that both CJs are injured.I don't think he's capable of starting yet, as in this spring. He still needs to learn to read defenses better. That could improve by the fall.
  19. I'll have it posted on my blog in about 5 min.http://blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  20. I have a lot more data to comb over. I'll post more on my blog in the coming weeks. Not having a background in finance makes a lot of these statements look like Japanese -- well, if I hadn't taken Japanese in high school.
  21. I dug up some data of how much money each UA sport brings in, compared to how much they spend.I'm curious as to what ZipsNation thinks about the figures...The data
  22. Don't count out McNees, either. From what I hear, he's a good point guard. How clutch would it be for Steward or McNees to come in and play quality minutes right away?
  23. I had about a 30 minute conversation with Rick today. He was seriously remorseful for snapping in those e-mails. This guy has a background in coaching and probably isn't used to being diplomatic. He seems to be a legitimately nice guy who really likes Akron. He has personal connections with Dambrot, Dials and Joyce.
