  1. As far as I'm concerned, there are two elite coaches in the MAC.One patrols Akron's sidelines. One freak loss and fans want to turn him into Randy Wittman. Unbelievable.I hope Dambrot never sees this thread.
  2. Thanks, Cap'n.You did beat me to the punch on Dials. I really hope we're going to start getting what we thought we'd get out of him when he transferred.Sometime in the middle of last season, everyone just figured he hit his ceiling. Maybe not.
  3. Heath sounds like a good replacement down I-76 once Jim Christian finds the fastest route out of town.
  4. I would hesitate to criticize Dambrot's recruiting, especially after this year's signees. Brett McKnight, Steve Sweich and Ronnie Steward are the most touted basketball class ever to walk on campus. I would take them over almost any combination of 2006 MAC recruits. As for some of the disappointing players like Rybak, I will start to complain about that as soon as we need a quality starter and can't find one. As long as Middleton can run the point next season, the Zips should be even better. Wood, Milum, McKnight and Sweich will make up one of the nation's deepest frontcourts.
  5. Just called the ticket office. You'll be fine walking up to get a general admission seat, they said.blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  6. That game cost my buddy $100. I told him to take Can't minus 2.Doh.
  7. Look for this to be the Zips' nonconference schedule...Army (@ Cleveland Browns Stadium)@ OSU@ UConn@ IndianaAkron had a home-and-home deal with the Hoosiers. They planned to return the deal in 2009. Instead, Akron might invite them to the new stadium in 2009 and travel to Bloomington this year. The athletic department is bent on minimizing games at the Rubber Bowl the next couple years. That's probably a smart plan, especially if that gives UA better home opponents once the new stadium opens.
  8. http://niuhuskies.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl...skbl-sched.htmlClick on the Akron game. Then there's a link on your right to "watch."It's not working on my computer because I don't have Internet Explorer. Good luck.
  9. He's right. I'm a bit behind.Rivals.com published two stories today. One said he was coming here. The next said he's headed to Va.Tough break, but still a great recruiting class.
  10. Hahaha. (Speechless)
  11. I gave him your middle name: Dick.
  12. Balki Bartokomous: Our daily reminder that cocaine is a helluva drug.
  13. Damnit, Balki. I don't even know that broad.
  14. This is all incredibly funny.
  15. I think ticket prices are cheap enough that TV coverage won't hurt attendance as much as it will help increase awareness in the city. Overall, I'd call it a net gain.My objection is even hardcore fans can't follow the team when only one away game is on TV. Unfortunately, that's probably not UA's control. My guess is FSN, the MAC and the home schools make the calls.
  16. I think this could be legitimate. I know the U was after a Big East team to fill next year's schedule (along with Army, Indiana and OSU). The other option was a D-IAA, but the Rubber Bowl probably can't sustain six home games the next two seasons.
  17. As someone who has lost a friend over there, my thoughts and prayers are with her.
  18. Don't be too hard on yourself. That's some remarkable Photoshop work that you, Jim and Jack did.
  19. It looks likely that Akron already will play a game at a pro stadium. The Patriot Bowl would be held at Cleveland Browns Stadium. An Ohio MAC school would face one of the U.S. service academies, Army, Navy or Air Force.Akron is the frontrunner to play in the first one in 2007.http://blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  20. Hey, Cap'n.Do you know anything else about Wayne Jones? I can't find him on the major sites.Thanks.
  21. Oral Roberts is going to have a high RPI at the end of the season. They beat Kansas at Kansas. The Zips will play a lot of teams who are expected to win their conference. Don't discount Binghamton, Loyola and (obviously) Nevada.I actually think this is more advantageous than going to Cal, like last year, when you have no chance against their fans, talent and refs.I wrote a bit about Niagara, who would be much better if the star player didn't beat the sh** out of a baseball player.http://blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  22. ZA, I don't write my columns for ZipsNation. The blog stuff is for fans like you. My columns are for students -- 90 percent of which will never attend a football game all year. It's a different audience, so I don't expect the columns to entertain you guys.As for my analysis about the team lacking leaders, J.D. told me himself that's true. You can call that excuse making, or you can call it being honest. It's a fine line coaches walk. Fans want coaches to speak frankly about what went wrong; then they are called excuse makers if they do.I still think J.D.'s a fine coach. One underachieving season and you're making him out to be Chris Palmer. And J.D. is satisfied with mediocrity? That's absurd.
  23. I still haven't heard that logical reason.
  24. Nice post, Cap'n.Carlton's pass was glorious. That was an amazing ball.
  25. Bardo played pretty well. 11 and 4 if I'm not mistaken. Not sure about McNess. You can get my interview with Jeff at http://blogs.ohio.com/rasor
